The 39-year-old Serbian star needed just 98 minutes on Centre Court to defeat Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, producing one of his most convincing performances of the tournament so far. Djokovic looked in complete control throughout the contest, dictating rallies and rarely allowing the Greek player any opportunity to settle into the match.

The win sends Djokovic into the third round as he continues his bid for another Grand Slam title at the All England Club, a venue that has played a defining role in his career.

Speaking after the match, Djokovic said he was pleased with the level of tennis he displayed and reflected on what Wimbledon still means to him at this stage of his career.

The Serbian great described Centre Court as a place connected to his childhood dreams and said he never takes the opportunity to compete there for granted. He also brushed aside questions about age, saying he continues to feel physically strong and motivated despite nearing 40.

Djokovic was also seen enjoying himself during the match. During a break before the third set, he shared a light-hearted moment with a ball kid, joking after she helped remove a loose thread from his shirt. The former world No. 1 later entertained the crowd by playfully challenging golf star Rory McIlroy, who was watching from the Royal Box, to a tennis match.

While Djokovic cruised through his encounter, world No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner faced a much sterner examination.

Sinner defeated Portugal’s Nuno Borges 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 in a match that lasted more than two and a half hours. The Italian extended his winning streak at Wimbledon to nine matches but was pushed hard by the world No. 48, who matched him for long periods.

Borges came close to taking control of the contest, particularly in the second set when he earned a set point. However, Sinner responded under pressure, showing the composure that helped him win the title last year.

The Italian’s ability to raise his level in crucial moments proved decisive. After edging both tie-breaks, he carried the momentum into the third set and eventually sealed victory in straight sets.

The result is particularly significant for Sinner, who arrived at Wimbledon with questions surrounding his grass-court preparation. Following his French Open campaign, he chose not to play any warm-up tournaments on grass, leading to speculation about his match readiness on the surface.

With the victory, Sinner remains firmly on course to defend his crown.

The tournament now moves into its next phase, with several top contenders gathering momentum. Djokovic will face France’s 25th seed Arthur Rinderknech in the third round, while Sinner is set to meet American Jensen Brooksby, currently ranked No. 81 in the world.

Both players remain among the favourites for the men’s singles title, and their progress is likely to be closely watched as Wimbledon enters the business end of the competition.
