An 80-year-old farmer from Haryana has captured attention after completing a skydive from 18,000 feet in Australia, proving that age is no barrier to adventure.

Chuhad Singh, a resident of Batta village in Kaithal district, jumped from an aircraft at an altitude of nearly 18,000 feet while travelling in Australia with his grandson Ankit. A video of the skydive has gone viral on social media, showing the elderly adventurer confidently descending through the sky while carrying the Indian tricolour.

During the jump, Chuhad Singh can be heard saying that Haryanvis are not afraid of challenges and that fear never stopped him from travelling abroad. Dressed in his traditional white kurta even during the skydive, he appeared calm and enthusiastic throughout the experience.

According to family members, this was not his first attempt at the extreme sport. Chuhad Singh had earlier completed a skydive from 15,000 feet at an airfield in Patiala, Punjab. Encouraged by that experience, he decided to take on an even bigger challenge during his Australia visit.

His grandson Ankit, a social media content creator known for documenting Haryanvi lifestyle and travel experiences, said the two travelled to Australia on June 1 and are spending nearly two months exploring different parts of the country.

The idea for the latest skydive reportedly came after Chuhad Singh witnessed adventure activities during the trip and expressed a desire to participate himself. After assessing the logistics and safety requirements, the family arranged the jump under professional supervision.

During the descent, Chuhad Singh reportedly reached speeds of around 200 kilometres per hour. He remained in freefall for nearly a minute before the parachute deployment. Videos and photographs from the experience show him smiling, cheering and even taking pictures using a selfie stick while airborne.

One of the most striking moments came when he unfurled the Indian national flag after completing the jump. Family members said carrying the tricolour was important to him, although there were initial concerns regarding whether it could be taken during the activity. Following discussions with the instructors, permission was eventually granted.

Speaking about the experience, Chuhad Singh said he initially felt some nervousness before the jump. However, memories of his previous skydive helped him regain confidence. Once airborne, he focused on enjoying the moment rather than thinking about the height.

His grandson revealed that a single skydive costs around ₹50,000 and requires participants to undergo medical and fitness assessments before receiving clearance. Chuhad Singh successfully completed all required checks before being allowed to take part.

The family says the trip is aimed at giving the elderly farmer opportunities to enjoy experiences he never had during his younger years. Having spent most of his life engaged in farming and agricultural work, he is now exploring different countries and activities after retirement.

Ankit said he wanted to fulfil his grandfather’s wishes and create memorable experiences for him. Before visiting Australia, the duo had also travelled together to destinations including the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.

Family members attribute Chuhad Singh’s fitness and active lifestyle to his simple rural routine and traditional diet. They say he continues to consume homemade food such as milk, curd, rotis and khichdi while remaining actively involved with his agricultural land back home.

The remarkable skydive has drawn praise online, with many social media users celebrating the octogenarian’s courage and enthusiasm. The story has also reignited conversations about active ageing and how senior citizens are increasingly participating in adventure sports across India and abroad.
