The complainant said that on January 15, the day of the elections, she was informed that a self-help group meeting would be held at Khandoba Temple in Jejuri, Pune district. Believing this, she and other women boarded buses arranged for the gathering. However, instead of attending the meeting, she was reportedly taken to Pimpri-Chinchwad and asked to vote for a specific political party.

According to the woman, around four buses full of women from Beed were similarly transported. She stated that she complied with the instructions, cast her vote, and was apprehended by police later in the day, before being released at 6 PM. She added that she did not receive any monetary incentive that may have been promised.

Following the incident, the woman lodged a complaint with Beed Superintendent of Police, Navneet Kanwat, on January 17. She has called for a formal FIR against the accused woman, who allegedly orchestrated the scheme. SP Kanwat confirmed that the complaint has been received and will be forwarded to the Collector of Pune for further action.

The allegation comes in the backdrop of the recent Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, which witnessed a major political shift. The BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde) alliance emerged victorious, ending the Thackeray family’s 30-year dominance in Mumbai. The State Election Commission’s final results show the BJP+ winning 1,425 of 2,869 seats across 29 municipal corporations. Other parties’ performance included Shiv Sena (399 seats), Congress (324), NCP (167), Shiv Sena (UBT) (155), NCP (UBT) (36), MNS (13), BSP (6), and independents and smaller parties claiming 345 seats.

The complainant’s allegations, if verified, raise serious concerns about electoral manipulation and voter coercion, highlighting the need for stricter monitoring of election conduct across districts. Authorities are now tasked with investigating whether the incident constitutes fraud or violation of electoral norms.
