Veteran actor Rajesh Sharma has been admitted to a hospital in Kolkata after developing a severe infection allegedly caused by an insect or poisonous spider bite during a film shoot in Hyderabad. The actor is currently undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria, where doctors are closely monitoring his condition.

The incident reportedly took place at Ramoji Film City while Sharma was shooting for an upcoming film featuring actor Prabhas. According to information shared by actress Sudipa Chatterjee on social media on behalf of the actor’s family, the health complication emerged shortly after the shooting schedule ended.

Sources close to the family said Sharma was interacting with local technicians in a garden area near the set when he was bitten on the leg by an unidentified insect or spider. As the injury initially appeared minor, he did not seek immediate medical attention and continued with his routine activities.

However, the situation worsened several hours later.

Reports indicate that around six hours after the bite, Sharma began experiencing intense pain in his right leg. Despite the discomfort, he boarded a flight to Kolkata. During the journey, his condition reportedly deteriorated further, and he developed a high fever.

After arriving in Kolkata, his health continued to decline. Family members subsequently rushed him to Manipal Hospital, where he was admitted for specialised treatment. He has remained under medical observation since then.

Doctors treating the actor have expressed concern over the spread of the infection. According to Dr. Abhijit Bhattacharya, the infection has extended from the actor’s toe up to his knee. Medical examinations have also revealed large blisters on the affected area.

While doctors are continuing treatment, they have refrained from declaring him out of danger. Hospital authorities are carefully monitoring his recovery and conducting additional tests to assess the severity of the infection.

Medical experts are particularly concerned about the possibility of blood clot formation due to the infection. If a clot were to travel to the lungs, it could lead to serious complications. For this reason, Sharma remains under strict supervision, and doctors are expected to issue an official health update after further evaluation.

The incident has prompted concern across the film industry, with colleagues and well-wishers extending support to the actor and his family. The health note shared online stated that members of the Bengal Motion Pictures Artists’ Forum and several friends from the industry have been assisting the family during this period.

Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee is reportedly in constant touch with Sharma’s family and has been offering support as the actor undergoes treatment. Family members have also thanked fans, media organisations and well-wishers for their prayers and concern.

Rajesh Sharma is one of the most respected character actors in Indian cinema and has worked extensively across Hindi and Bengali films. Known for his versatile performances, he has appeared alongside leading stars including Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan and the late Sushant Singh Rajput. His role in the acclaimed web series Paatal Lok also earned widespread appreciation.

Among his recent projects are Bhoot Bangla and Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart (Hridayam). Meanwhile, Prabhas is currently associated with major upcoming films including Fauji, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, and Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. It remains unclear which of these productions was underway when the incident occurred.

As the actor continues to receive treatment, fans and industry colleagues are awaiting further updates on his condition.
