A 19-year-old woman in Raigarh has accused a man of establishing a relationship with her through Instagram, allegedly promising marriage and later refusing to marry her. Police have arrested the accused and sent him to judicial custody.

Police in Raigarh have arrested a 24-year-old man after a woman accused him of sexually exploiting her on the promise of marriage. The woman alleged that the accused befriended her through Instagram, developed a relationship and later refused to marry her.The case has been registered at Pusaur police station. According to police, the accused has been identified as Anil Kumar Sao, a resident of Bunga village.

Friendship started on Instagram

Police said that the 19-year-old complainant approached Pusaur police and submitted a written complaint.In her complaint, the woman alleged that she received an Instagram friend request from Anil in 2025. After accepting it, the two started communicating regularly.She alleged that during their conversations, Anil expressed his love and assured her that he would marry her and keep her as his wife.

Woman alleges exploitation on marriage promise

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly called her near Patelpali College on October 15, 2025, and later took her to a hotel, where she alleged that he established a physical relationship against her wishes.The woman further alleged that the accused continued the relationship at different places until May 2026 by assuring her of marriage.She claimed that whenever she asked about marriage, he would allegedly argue with her and avoid the issue.

Allegation of taking ₹45,000

The woman also alleged that the accused took ₹45,000 from her in the name of marriage preparations.She claimed that later he refused to marry her and allegedly threatened her when she asked for the money back.Following this, she informed her family and approached the police.

Police action and investigation

Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and began an investigation.The woman’s statement was recorded by a female police officer and her medical examination was conducted as part of the investigation process.Police later arrested the accused from his residence and produced him before the court. He has been sent to judicial custody.

A 43-year-old man from Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district has been arrested over allegations of domestic abuse, religious coercion and allegedly forcing his minor son to chant pro-Pakistan slogans. The accused, identified as Wasim Mohammad, was brought out of jail on a one-day production warrant as police intensified their investigation into the case.

According to police, investigators took the accused to the alleged crime scene in Jogidipa village under the Pusaur police station limits to reconstruct events and verify evidence. During the investigation, officers questioned him about various aspects of the case. Police officials also stated that the accused was made to raise slogans of "Hindustan Zindabad" and "Pakistan Murdabad" during the investigation process.

Case Originates from Woman's Complaint

The case stems from a complaint filed on May 29, 2026, by a 35-year-old woman from Korba district. In her complaint, she alleged that Wasim Mohammad had introduced himself as a divorced man before developing a relationship with her. The two later married in 2021 following Muslim religious customs.

The complainant later discovered that the accused was already married and had not divorced his first wife. She alleged that he had concealed his first marriage and the existence of his five children before their marriage. The woman also has two children of her own.

Allegations of Abuse and Religious Pressure

According to the complaint, the relationship deteriorated after the birth of their child. The woman alleged that her husband began physically assaulting her and repeatedly pressured her to follow religious practices, including reciting the Kalma, offering Namaz and observing Roza.

She further claimed that despite following his instructions, she was frequently assaulted and driven out of the house.

The complainant also alleged that the accused exploited her vulnerable situation, claiming she had limited support after leaving her previous social environment.

Claims of Anti-India Slogans

One of the most serious allegations in the complaint is that the accused allegedly forced both the complainant and her minor children to chant "Pakistan Zindabad" slogans while using abusive language against India. According to the woman, refusal to comply allegedly resulted in physical and mental harassment.

These allegations are currently under investigation, and police have not yet publicly released findings confirming the claims.

Police Register Multiple Charges

Following the complaint, police registered a case against Wasim Mohammad under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 85, 351, 152 and 197, along with Section 4 of the Chhattisgarh Freedom of Religion Act, 1968.

Investigators obtained a production warrant from the court, allowing the accused to be taken into police custody for one day to facilitate further questioning and site inspection. After completing the investigation-related procedures, he was produced before the court again and remanded back to judicial custody.

Senior Officers Monitoring Investigation

Raigarh Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh said the investigation is being conducted on the basis of available evidence. He stated that crimes against women, activities allegedly affecting national integrity and incidents disturbing social harmony are being investigated with seriousness.

The investigation is being supervised by Deputy Superintendent of Police Unnati Thakur, while Pusaur Police Station in-charge Harshvardhan Singh Bais is leading the inquiry.

Police said statements, digital evidence and other material collected during the investigation will be examined before any further legal action is taken. Authorities have reiterated that the case remains under investigation and that conclusions will be based on evidence gathered during the probe.
