United India Insurance Company Limited (UIIC) has opened applications for 225 Administrative Officer (Scale I) posts under its 2026 recruitment drive. The vacancies include 200 posts for Generalists and 25 posts for Hindi Officers.

Eligible candidates can apply online from September 8 to September 28, 2026 through the official UIIC recruitment portal. The preliminary examination is tentatively scheduled for October 22, followed by the Tier-II main examination on November 30, 2026. 

225 Administrative Officer vacancies

UIIC's recruitment drive covers two disciplines:

• Administrative Officer – Generalists: 200 posts

• Administrative Officer – Hindi Officers: 25 posts

• Total: 225 posts

The vacancies are provisional, and candidates can apply for either the Generalist or Hindi Officer discipline, not both. 

Who can apply?

For the Generalist posts, candidates need a graduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university, subject to the marks requirement prescribed in the notification.

The reported eligibility requirement is 60% marks, with the threshold reduced to 55% for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. For Hindi Officer posts, candidates need to meet the prescribed postgraduate qualification involving Hindi and English. 

The age limit is 21 to 30 years, with the relevant cut-off date being June 30, 2026. Applicable relaxation is available to eligible reserved categories as per government rules.

Salary crosses ₹1 lakh

The revised basic pay for Administrative Officer (Scale I) starts at ₹82,485. The pay scale extends to ₹1,56,745, while the approximate gross monthly pay at metropolitan centres is around ₹1.10 lakh, according to recruitment-related details. 

The package also includes applicable benefits such as gratuity, Leave Travel Subsidy, medical benefits, Group Personal Accident Insurance, National Pension System and leased accommodation, subject to company rules. 

Importantly, ₹1.10 lakh is an approximate gross salary at metropolitan centres, not a guaranteed in-hand salary.

Selection process

Candidates will go through a multi-stage selection process comprising:

1. Tier-I Preliminary Examination

2. Tier-II Main Examination

3. Descriptive Test

4. Interview

The preliminary examination is qualifying in nature, while the main examination and interview contribute to the final selection process.

There is a powerful headline doing the rounds in debates about India's education system: only 8% of graduates are employable.

It makes for an alarming statistic. But it is also important to get the number right.

The latest NITI Aayog material does not say that only 8% of Indian graduates are employable. Its 2026 analysis says employability among all post-school degree holders, including polytechnic graduates, increased from 47.3% in 2019 to 56.4% in 2026. The same analysis puts BA graduate employability at 55.6%, BCom at 62.8%, BSc at 61%, MCA at 68.2%, BE/BTech at 70.2% and MBA at 72.3%.

So the better question is not whether 92% of graduates are unemployable.

It is why a country producing millions of degree holders still struggles to ensure that education translates into meaningful employment.

That problem is real.

NITI Aayog's latest skilling report identifies weak alignment between education and labour-market requirements. It points to gaps in communication, problem-solving, digital literacy and workplace readiness, while noting that industry-linked programmes and practical exposure remain limited in higher education.

This helps explain why the competitive-examination crisis is connected to the employment crisis.

A student who does not see a reliable pathway from a degree to a private-sector career is more likely to compete for a limited number of government jobs. When thousands of applicants chase a few vacancies, an examination stops being merely an assessment and becomes a gateway to economic security.

That creates extraordinary pressure.

The government itself acknowledges the importance of employability. Official labour data shows that the unemployment rate among educated persons — those with secondary or higher education — fell to 6.5% in 2025 from 7% in 2024. The same PLFS release reported an increase in the share of workers in regular wage or salaried employment to 23.6%.

Those figures complicate the claim of a completely jobless graduate generation.

But they do not eliminate the underlying problem.

A job is not automatically a good match for a degree. Employment numbers can rise while underemployment, skill mismatch and low-quality work remain. A graduate working in a role far below their training may technically be employed while still experiencing the failure of the education-to-employment pipeline.

This is where India needs to move beyond the obsession with degrees.

NITI Aayog's latest work argues for stronger vocational exposure, industry-linked learning and skills-first approaches. Its August 2026 report notes that fewer than one in 12 secondary schools offer vocational subjects, despite the emphasis placed on vocational exposure under the National Education Policy.

The answer, therefore, is not to tell young Indians to stop pursuing degrees.

It is to make degrees useful.

Universities need stronger apprenticeships. Courses need to be updated with industry requirements. Students need practical exposure before graduation rather than after it. Employers need to participate in curriculum design. And vocational education needs to lose its image as a second-class alternative.

India's demographic advantage becomes a liability if education expands faster than meaningful opportunities.

That is why the anger over examination leaks should not be dismissed as merely a student issue.

A young person protesting a compromised examination may actually be protesting something much larger: the fear that after years of studying, there may be no dependable route into a stable career.

The 8% figure may be wrong.

The anxiety behind it is not.

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has given banking job aspirants additional time to apply for one of the country's largest recruitment drives. The application deadline for the Common Recruitment Process (CRP) PO/MT-XVI Recruitment 2026 has been extended from July 21 to July 26, 2026, allowing more eligible candidates to complete the online registration process.

This recruitment drive is being conducted for 7,365 vacancies of Probationary Officers (PO) and Management Trainees (MT) across participating public sector banks. The online application process began on July 1, 2026, and interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IBPS website before the revised closing date. The extension was announced through an official corrigendum issued by IBPS.

Candidates applying for the recruitment must possess a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university in India. The prescribed age limit is 20 to 30 years as on July 1, 2026, while candidates belonging to reserved categories will be eligible for age relaxation in accordance with Government of India rules.

The application fee has been fixed at ₹850 for candidates belonging to the General, OBC and EWS categories, whereas applicants from SC, ST and PwBD categories are required to pay ₹175. The fee can be paid online through debit card, credit card, internet banking, IMPS and other digital payment options.

According to the official schedule, the Preliminary Examination is expected to be held in August 2026, followed by the declaration of results in September. Candidates who qualify the prelims will appear for the Main Examination, tentatively scheduled for October 2026. The recruitment process will also include a Personality Test, Interview, and Final Allotment, which is expected in January 2027.

The selection process will be conducted in multiple stages to assess candidates' aptitude, reasoning ability, English language proficiency and overall suitability for the Probationary Officer role. The Section Controller is a critical operational post in Indian Railways, responsible for monitoring train movement within a designated section, coordinating with station masters, loco pilots and control offices, and ensuring safe, efficient and punctual train operations.
