Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan visited the world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Monday evening, where he participated in the temple's traditional Shayan Aarti and offered prayers to Lord Mahakal. The actor prayed for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of the country during his spiritual visit.

Hours later, Odisha Minister of State (Independent Charge) Gokula Nanda also visited the temple in the early hours of Tuesday to take part in the sacred Bhasma Aarti, one of the most significant rituals performed at the Jyotirlinga shrine.

Dressed in a simple white shirt and blue jeans, Kartik Aaryan joined hundreds of devotees gathered in the temple's Nandi Hall for the evening Shayan Aarti. With folded hands, the actor participated in the prayers and followed the temple's age-old traditions.

After the ritual concluded, Kartik whispered his wishes into the ear of Nandi Maharaj, a customary practice observed by devotees visiting the temple. He then bowed before Lord Mahakal and offered prayers seeking blessings.

Odisha Minister Attends Sacred Bhasma Aarti

Earlier on Tuesday morning, Gokula Nanda, Odisha's Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Fisheries & Animal Resources Development and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), also visited the Mahakaleshwar Temple.

The minister participated in the temple's renowned Bhasma Aarti, a unique pre-dawn ritual that attracts devotees from across India and abroad. During his visit, he performed traditional religious ceremonies and prayed for the prosperity, development, and well-being of both Odisha and the nation.

Following the rituals, representatives of the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee welcomed the minister. Committee representative Shivkant Pandey presented him with Mahakal Prasad and a ceremonial honour as a mark of respect.

Thousands of devotees gathered before dawn to witness one of Hinduism's most revered ceremonies, where Lord Mahakal was worshipped through sacred rituals and adorned in a magnificent royal form.

The temple doors were opened at around 4:00 a.m., marking the beginning of the highly anticipated Bhasma Aarti. As per the centuries-old tradition, temple priests first performed the worship of all the deities present inside the sanctum sanctorum. The atmosphere resonated with the sound of bells, Vedic chants, and devotional hymns, creating a spiritually uplifting experience for the devotees present.

Following the initial rituals, the priests performed the Jalabhishek of Lord Mahakal using holy water. This was followed by the sacred Panchamrit Abhishek, one of the most significant rituals in Hindu worship. The Panchamrit, prepared using milk, curd, clarified butter (ghee), sugar, and fruit juices, was ceremoniously offered to the Jyotirlinga while sacred mantras echoed throughout the temple premises. The ritual symbolizes purity, prosperity, and divine blessings.

After the Panchamrit Abhishek, the priests performed another important ritual by offering Hari Om water while the first ceremonial temple bell was rung. The chanting of Vedic mantras continued throughout the process, reinforcing the spiritual significance of the occasion. A traditional camphor aarti followed, illuminating the sanctum with a divine glow as devotees folded their hands in prayer.

The divine adornment of Lord Mahakal was one of the major highlights of Monday's Bhasma Aarti. The priests applied sacred bhang, sandalwood paste, and the traditional Tripund tilak on the forehead of the Jyotirlinga. This special decoration symbolizes Lord Shiva's ascetic form and reflects the rich traditions associated with Mahakal worship. Every step of the adornment was performed with precision according to ancient temple customs that have been followed for generations.

Once the sacred adornment was completed, the Jyotirlinga was respectfully covered with cloth before the ritual application of holy ash, known as Bhasma, was carried out. The offering of Bhasma is considered the defining moment of the Mahakal Bhasma Aarti. According to religious beliefs, Lord Mahakal accepts the sacred ash and blesses devotees by revealing His divine form after the ritual. The Bhasma offered during the ceremony was presented by representatives of the Maha Nirvani Akhara, continuing a long-standing spiritual tradition associated with the temple.

Following the Bhasma ritual, Lord Mahakal was adorned in an elaborate royal attire. A silver crown designed in the form of Sheshnag was placed upon the deity, accompanied by a silver Mundmala and sacred Rudraksha garlands. Fragrant floral garlands made from mogra and roses further enhanced the divine appearance of Lord Mahakal. The beautifully decorated Jyotirlinga reflected a majestic and serene form, attracting the admiration and devotion of everyone present inside the temple.

As part of the concluding rituals, fruits and traditional sweets were offered as Bhog to Lord Mahakal. The offering represents gratitude and devotion from devotees while seeking blessings for peace, prosperity, and well-being. Temple priests completed the ceremonial worship with final prayers before allowing devotees to have darshan of the adorned deity.

The Bhasma Aarti drew a large number of pilgrims from different parts of the country. Many devotees had arrived in Ujjain a day in advance to secure permission for witnessing the sacred ceremony. The disciplined arrangements inside the temple ensured that devotees could participate peacefully in the rituals while maintaining the sanctity of the temple traditions.
