Doctors at Raigarh Medical College successfully removed an 8-kg abdominal tumour from a 46-year-old woman in a complex high-risk surgery.

Doctors at the Government Medical College and Associated Hospital in Raigarh successfully removed an approximately 8-kg abdominal tumour from a 46-year-old woman in a high-risk surgery after the mass had become deeply attached to the intestines and was affecting surrounding organs.

The complex procedure was performed by a multidisciplinary team comprising specialists from the departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery and Anaesthesia. The patient, identified as Champa Yadav from Jhalmala village, had reportedly been suffering from severe abdominal pain, swelling and vomiting for about a month before being admitted to the medical college on August 22.

Patient admitted in critical condition

According to the information provided by the hospital team, Yadav was in a serious condition when she arrived at the facility. Her blood pressure had dropped to around 84/54 mmHg and she was also found to have significant anaemia.

Imaging investigations, including CT scan and ultrasound, revealed a large tumour occupying the abdomen. The mass had displaced the uterus and was exerting pressure on the left ureter, affecting the kidney. Liver-related parameters were also reported to have deteriorated.

Given the patient's condition, doctors decided to stabilise her before attempting the major surgery.

Blood transfusions before surgery

The medical team first worked to improve her overall condition and correct the severe blood loss. Multiple units of packed red blood cells were reportedly administered, along with antibiotics and supportive treatment.

Doctors proceeded with surgery only after the patient's condition became sufficiently stable for the high-risk procedure.

Tumour found attached to intestines

The surgery was performed on September 1 under general anaesthesia. During an exploratory laparotomy, doctors encountered the major challenge of separating the large tumour from the intestines, where it was deeply attached.

Because of the complexity of the procedure and the proximity of vital structures, specialists from General Surgery were involved along with the gynaecology and anaesthesia teams.

The doctors carefully separated the tumour from the intestines and protected both ureters during the procedure. The tumour, along with the uterus, was subsequently removed. The combined specimen was reported to weigh around 8 kg.

Patient recovering after operation

The surgery was completed successfully and the patient was shifted to the recovery area following the procedure. She has been receiving intravenous fluids, pain-management medication and postoperative care.

According to the information provided, her condition is currently stable and she is gradually recovering.

The case highlights the importance of coordinated care in complicated abdominal and gynaecological surgeries, particularly when a large mass is affecting multiple organs and requires the involvement of specialists from different departments.

Three departments involved in surgery

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Medical College Dean Dr Santosh Kumar and Hospital Superintendent Dr Durgashankar Patel.

The medical team included Obstetrics and Gynaecology department head Dr Raghavendra Mahilange, Dr Kunti Chaudhary and Dr Anees Bhagat. The Anaesthesia team was led by department head Dr Ashok Singh Sदार, while the General Surgery team included Dr Nikhilesh Shinde.

Nursing and paramedical personnel also supported the procedure and postoperative management.

The details of the patient's symptoms, clinical condition, procedure and recovery are based on the information supplied for this report. The available Raigarh district government website confirms the medical college and associated government hospital, but an independent official release specifically documenting this surgery was not located during verification.

Amitabh Bachchan Shares Health Update After Surgery, Says Recovery at Home Has Been the Toughest Phase

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has reassured fans about his condition while opening up about his recent surgery and recovery, days after social media was flooded with speculation over his health.

In a heartfelt post on his personal blog, the 83-year-old actor revealed that he had undergone surgery and spent time in the intensive care unit (ICU). While he did not disclose the nature of the medical procedure or the illness that led to it, he described the period after returning home as the most challenging stage of his recovery.

Bachchan wrote that although he had been discharged from the hospital, the physical, psychological and practical challenges of returning home have been far more demanding than the hospital stay itself. Reflecting on the experience, he spoke about resilience and the importance of facing adversity with courage rather than dwelling on past achievements.

The blog quickly sparked concern among fans across social media, with thousands posting messages wishing the actor a speedy recovery. Many interpreted the note as his first detailed update following weeks of speculation surrounding his health.

The actor's remarks also revived discussions about his earlier hospital visit in May, when reports had claimed he had been admitted for treatment. At the time, sources close to the actor clarified that he had only visited the hospital for a routine medical check-up and had returned home the same day, dismissing claims of prolonged hospitalisation.

Unlike those earlier rumours, Bachchan's latest post confirms that he has indeed undergone a surgical procedure, though he has deliberately chosen not to reveal any medical details. The veteran actor instead focused on the emotional and physical realities of recovery, noting that healing often begins only after a patient leaves the hospital.

Known for maintaining a disciplined routine despite his age, Bachchan continues to stay connected with fans through his daily blog and social media updates. His candid reflections have frequently offered insights into his professional life, personal thoughts and health, making his latest post particularly significant for followers concerned about his well-being.

Despite the health setback, the actor has remained professionally active in recent months. He recently resumed work on the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, underscoring his commitment to ongoing film projects even as he continues his recovery.

The latest update has once again highlighted Bachchan's enduring connection with audiences. Rather than issuing a formal medical statement, the actor chose to communicate through a personal reflection, offering reassurance while acknowledging the realities of recovery after surgery.

Further details regarding his medical condition or future work schedule have not been disclosed. For now, Bachchan's message suggests that he is recuperating at home and gradually returning to normal life following what he described as one of the most difficult phases of his recent journey.

The 83-year-old actor shared the update through his personal blog, though he chose not to disclose when the hospitalization took place, the name of the hospital, the duration of his stay, or the medical condition that required surgery.

His candid post quickly drew attention across social media, with fans expressing concern for his health while wishing him a speedy recovery.

Big B Reflects on Recovery After Surgery

In his blog, Amitabh Bachchan described the difficult journey from surgery to returning home, calling the recovery period one of the toughest experiences physically, mentally, and emotionally.

He wrote that being discharged from the hospital is only the beginning of another battle, as patients must cope with pain, limited mobility, and emotional uncertainty. Bachchan observed that life often tests even those who are considered strong and successful.

Sharing a message of resilience, he wrote that people who refuse to lose courage and continue fighting through adversity remain true champions, while others may choose to live on the strength of their past accomplishments. According to him, every individual has the right to make that choice, and neither path is wrong.

He concluded the post by wishing everyone good health and happiness.

Later on Monday night, Bachchan posted a cryptic message on X, writing, "The game is over! But the work is going on." The post further fueled speculation about his health, although no official medical details have been released.

Hospitalisation Rumours Had Surfaced Earlier

The latest revelation has also revived discussions about reports that emerged in May regarding Amitabh Bachchan's alleged hospitalization.

At the time, media reports claimed that the actor had been admitted to Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital. However, sources close to the Bachchan family had clarified that he had only visited the hospital for a routine monthly medical check-up and returned home the same day.

The clarification appeared credible after the actor was seen greeting fans outside his residence, Jalsa, shortly afterward, indicating that he had not undergone a prolonged hospital stay at that time.

It remains unclear whether the surgery mentioned in his latest blog relates to that visit or to a separate medical procedure.

A Lifetime of Health Battles

Amitabh Bachchan has long been open about his health struggles. Over the decades, he has battled several serious medical conditions, including Hepatitis-B, liver cirrhosis, tuberculosis (TB), and Myasthenia Gravis.

The actor has previously revealed that nearly 75 percent of his liver has been damaged, leaving him with only about 25 percent functional liver capacity.

One of the defining moments of his life came in 1982, when he suffered a life-threatening injury while filming Coolie. During an action sequence, he sustained severe internal injuries after crashing into a table, leading to a ruptured intestine and widespread infection.

Doctors later performed multiple surgeries, and Bachchan reportedly slipped into a coma during treatment. He remained hospitalized for nearly two months before eventually making a remarkable recovery. The incident prompted nationwide prayers and remains one of the most significant episodes in Indian cinema history.

Fans Continue to Pray for His Recovery

Despite recurring health challenges over the years, Amitabh Bachchan has remained professionally active, continuing to work in films, television, and digital media while maintaining regular interaction with fans through his blog and social media platforms.

His latest message reflects the resilience that has defined his career and personal life for decades. While fans continue to await more details about his recent surgery, the veteran actor's optimistic outlook has reassured many that he remains determined to recover and continue working.
