Government job aspirants have several recruitment opportunities to consider this week, with major openings announced by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) and Indian Railways. Among the biggest recruitment drives are 13,706 vacancies in IBPS Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) and 4,471 Apprentice positions in Southern Railway.

The two recruitments together account for 18,177 vacancies, while several other government departments and railway units have also issued recruitment notifications in recent days.

IBPS RRB Recruitment 2026

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has opened applications for 13,706 posts under the IBPS RRB 2026 recruitment drive.

The vacancies cover positions including Office Assistant (Clerk) and Officer Scale-I, II and III in Regional Rural Banks. The online application process began on September 1, 2026, and candidates can submit their applications until September 21 through the official IBPS recruitment portal. 

The recruitment is aimed at filling positions in Regional Rural Banks across the country. Depending on the post, candidates are required to meet prescribed educational, age and other eligibility conditions. Knowledge of the relevant local language may also be required for certain positions.

The selection process varies according to the post and can include preliminary examinations, main examinations and interviews.

Southern Railway has 4,471 Apprentice vacancies

Southern Railway has announced 4,471 Act Apprentice vacancies across different divisions, workshops and units.

The recruitment is particularly relevant for candidates who have completed Class 10 and hold the required ITI qualification for the relevant trade. The notification also includes vacancies for freshers in specified categories. 

The application process began on August 28 and will remain open until September 27, 2026.

The apprenticeship recruitment covers multiple trades and locations under Southern Railway. Candidates should check the official notification for the specific trade-wise educational requirements, age conditions, reservation provisions and other eligibility rules before applying.

Railway recruitment adds more opportunities

Southern Railway's 4,471-post recruitment is not the only railway opening available to job seekers.

The Railway Recruitment Board has also issued a recruitment notification for Junior Engineer and related technical posts, with more than 4,000 vacancies listed in the current recruitment cycle. The application deadline for that recruitment is September 13, 2026. 

Other railway units have also announced apprentice and other positions, making the sector one of the major sources of government recruitment opportunities currently available.

Candidates should be careful, however, not to treat every railway vacancy as a single nationwide recruitment drive. Different Railway Recruitment Boards, Railway Recruitment Cells and railway zones issue separate notifications with their own eligibility requirements and application deadlines.

The current openings cover candidates with different educational backgrounds.

Graduates looking for banking-sector jobs can consider the IBPS RRB recruitment, subject to the eligibility requirements of the particular post. Candidates with Class 10 and ITI qualifications may find the Southern Railway Apprentice recruitment more relevant.

Those applying for technical railway positions such as Junior Engineer posts need to meet the prescribed diploma or engineering qualifications.

9,766 Junior Associate vacancies

The latest recruitment includes 7,680 regular vacancies, while the remaining positions are backlog vacancies covered under the recruitment exercise. SBI has also issued a separate Special Recruitment Drive for 1,538 backlog vacanciesmeant for eligible SC, ST and OBC candidates. 

Candidates applying under the regular recruitment can apply for vacancies in only one State or Union Territory. Applicants should therefore select their preferred location carefully while completing the application form.

SBI Clerk 2026 application dates

The online registration process began on August 11, 2026, and the last date to submit the application is August 31, 2026. Candidates are advised not to wait until the final day, particularly because document uploads and fee payment are also part of the online process. 

The preliminary examination is expected to be conducted in September 2026, while the Main examination is tentatively scheduled for November 2026. SBI is expected to provide detailed examination schedules through its official recruitment portal.

Who can apply for SBI Clerk?

Candidates interested in the Junior Associate posts must satisfy the educational, age and other eligibility requirements mentioned in the recruitment notification.

Applicants should also meet the local language requirement applicable to the State or Union Territory selected by them. The recruitment process includes a language assessment for candidates who do not meet the prescribed conditions through their educational qualifications.

This recruitment drive is being conducted for 7,365 vacancies of Probationary Officers (PO) and Management Trainees (MT) across participating public sector banks. Candidates applying for the recruitment must possess a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university in India. The prescribed age limit is 20 to 30 years as on July 1, 2026, while candidates belonging to reserved categories will be eligible for age relaxation in accordance with Government of India rules.

The application fee has been fixed at ₹850 for candidates belonging to the General, OBC and EWS categories, whereas applicants from SC, ST and PwBD categories are required to pay ₹175. The fee can be paid online through debit card, credit card, internet banking, IMPS and other digital payment options.

According to the official schedule, the Preliminary Examination is expected to be held in August 2026, followed by the declaration of results in September. Candidates who qualify the prelims will appear for the Main Examination, tentatively scheduled for October 2026.
