Rail services on the busy Delhi–Mumbai corridor continued to face major disruptions for the second consecutive day after heavy rainfall caused waterlogging on the Gholvad–Umargam Road section under the Mumbai Railway Division. The Mumbai route train disruptions have affected several long-distance services passing through the Ratlam Division, prompting Indian Railways to cancel eight trains and partially curtail six others. Passengers stranded at multiple stations were provided food and drinking water by the railway administration with support from local volunteers.

Rain Disrupts Rail Traffic

According to railway officials, water levels near Bridge No. 203 between Gholvad and Umargam Road rose above the danger mark on Thursday, forcing authorities to temporarily suspend rail operations on the section as a safety measure.

The disruption affected several trains operating on the Delhi–Mumbai route, leading to delays, cancellations, and route curtailments across the network.

Eight Trains Cancelled

Railways cancelled eight services from their originating stations due to operational constraints caused by the flooding.

Among the prominent trains cancelled are:

• Train No. 12228 Indore–Mumbai Central Duronto Express (July 24)
• Train No. 12962 Indore–Mumbai Central Avantika Express (July 24)
• Train No. 19019 Bandra Terminus–Haridwar Express (July 24)
• Train No. 12995 Bandra Terminus–Ajmer Express (July 24)
• Train No. 19020 Haridwar–Bandra Terminus Express (July 25)
• Train No. 12904 Amritsar–Mumbai Central Golden Temple Mail (July 25)
• Train No. 12926 Amritsar–Mumbai Central Paschim Express (July 25)
• Train No. 19038 Barauni–Bandra Terminus Express (July 26)

Services Curtailed

Apart from cancellations, six trains have been short-terminated or short-originated to minimise operational disruptions.

The Jaipur–Bandra Terminus Express was terminated at Vadodara, while its return service from Bandra Terminus will originate from Vadodara instead of Mumbai.

Similarly, the Ernakulam–Hazrat Nizamuddin Express, Dahod–Valsad Intercity Express, Hisar–Valsad Weekly Special, and the Amritsar–Mumbai Central Golden Temple Mail have also been partially cancelled or curtailed on different sections of their routes.

Passenger Assistance Arranged

To assist stranded passengers, the railway administration arranged meals and drinking water at several stations across the Ratlam Division.

Food items including khichdi, dal-rice, poha, bananas, and packaged drinking water were distributed at Ratlam, Namli, Nagda, Meghnagar, Limkheda, Thandla Road, and Bamnia stations.

Members of the Bohra community, local social organisations, and volunteers also joined railway officials in providing relief to passengers waiting for delayed trains.

Safety Measures Prioritised

Railway authorities said train operations were restricted only after water levels crossed the prescribed safety threshold, making normal movement unsafe.

Officials have been continuously monitoring track conditions and infrastructure before restoring services on the affected section.

Indian Railways has urged passengers to verify the latest running status of their trains before commencing their journey.

Travellers have been advised to use official railway enquiry platforms for real-time updates regarding cancellations, delays, and revised schedules as restoration work continues on the Mumbai route.
