Lovlina Borgohain, India's flag-bearer and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist, received a bye straight into the women's 75kg semi-finals at Glasgow 2026, a result of only five boxers entering the category. With just a single quarter-final scheduled in the weight class — England's Mary Kate Smith against Nigeria's Patricia Mbata on July 28 — Lovlina and the two other remaining boxers, Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree and Tuvalu's Tarona Taafaki, advanced directly to the last four. Since Commonwealth Games boxing awards bronze medals to both losing semi-finalists in each category, reaching that stage alone guarantees Lovlina at least a bronze — her first-ever Commonwealth Games medal. She's set to face Taafaki in the semi-final on July 31 for a place in the final.

The milestone means Lovlina has now medalled at every major multi-sport event she's eligible for — the Olympics, the Asian Games, and now the Commonwealth Games — having missed the podium in her previous two CWG appearances. She was knocked out in the quarter-finals at Gold Coast 2018 and lost her opening bout at Birmingham 2022, competing in the 69kg category on both occasions before moving up to 75kg for this cycle.

Beyond Lovlina, India has sent a 14-member boxing contingent to Glasgow — seven men and seven women — with the competition running from July 24 through finals on August 1 at the Scottish Event Campus. Jadumani Singh opened India's campaign in the men's draw, facing home favourite Aaron Cullen in the first round on July 24. Several other Indian boxers, including Kapil Pokhariya (90kg), Narender Berwal (+90kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Parveen Hooda (65kg) and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), are scheduled to begin their campaigns directly from the quarter-final stage.

India's boxing squad carries extra weight at this edition of the Games, with sports like badminton, shooting and wrestling — traditionally strong medal sources for the country — excluded from the 2026 programme, which has been trimmed to just 10 disciplines. India's boxers returned from Birmingham 2022 with seven medals, including three golds, though notably none of those gold medallists are part of this year's squad, leaving medal hopes resting more heavily on a mix of experienced campaigners like Lovlina and a newer generation of contenders.
