Where the process stands
JEECUP Counselling 2026 is being conducted online across five rounds by the Joint Entrance Examination Council, Uttar Pradesh, through the official portal, jeecup.admissions.nic.in. Round 1 choice filling began June 25, with the round's seat allotment result declared July 1. Round 2 followed from July 7. Rounds 1 through 3 were restricted to candidates with UP domicile status; Round 4 marks the point where eligible candidates from other states become part of the process as well.

A note on exact Round 4 dates
Exact dates for Rounds 3, 4 and 5 are being released progressively on the official portal rather than announced all at once — so candidates should check jeecup.admissions.nic.in directly for the confirmed Round 4 schedule rather than relying on a fixed date, since this can shift slightly from earlier projections.

How to register and fill choices
The process follows the same core steps each round: log in to the official portal using your JEECUP rank card credentials, pay the required counselling fee, and then fill your course and institute preferences before locking them ahead of the deadline. Choices cannot be changed once locked, so candidates are advised to prepare their preference list in advance — checking seat matrices and previous years' cutoffs — rather than filling it in hastily at the portal.

Seat acceptance fee
Candidates need to pay a seat acceptance fee of ₹3,000 as part of the counselling process. This isn't a separate cost — it gets adjusted against the admission fee once a candidate actually joins their allotted institute.

How seat allotment works
Allotment isn't random. It's based on a candidate's JEECUP rank, category, and the order in which choices were filled, matched against actual seat availability in each college and branch. A stronger rank combined with a well-planned choice list significantly improves the odds of securing a preferred college in an earlier round.

Freeze or float: what happens after allotment
Once a seat is allotted, candidates get two options. Freezing the seat means accepting it permanently and exiting the counselling process. Floating means keeping the current seat as a backup while remaining in contention for a better option in the next round — useful for candidates hoping to upgrade but wanting a fallback in case they don't.

Document verification
After seat allotment and fee payment, candidates need to complete document verification, either online or at designated centres, and report to their allotted institute in person with all original documents plus backup photocopies and digital scans.

What Round 4 specifically means for out-of-state candidates
For students from outside Uttar Pradesh, Round 4 is the entry point into JEECUP counselling — but it's worth noting these candidates aren't eligible for seats reserved under UP's own reservation category quotas, only for general seats that remain unfilled after the first three UP-domicile-only rounds.

With over two lakh diploma seats spread across more than 1,400 polytechnic institutes in the state, candidates — UP domicile or otherwise — entering at the Round 4 stage should move quickly: unfilled seats from earlier rounds narrow with each subsequent round, and waiting too long into the process reduces the range of realistic options.
