The win also brought a significant statistical milestone for the Indian team. It was the ninth occasion in 2026 that India crossed the 200-run mark in a T20I, equalling the national record they had set in 2024 for the most 200-plus totals in a calendar year. The latest performance underlined India's continued batting depth and attacking approach in the shortest format.

After being asked to bat first, India suffered an early setback when Abhishek Sharma departed cheaply. Teenage opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who had impressed in the opening match, once again played fearlessly. He attacked Richard Ngarava in the third over, striking four consecutive boundaries—three fours and a six—before attempting another big shot and being caught at mid-on. His entertaining 20 off just nine deliveries provided India with another brisk start.

The innings was then rebuilt through Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer. Kishan looked in complete control throughout his knock, scoring 81 from 44 deliveries with nine boundaries and two sixes. Shreyas added a useful 25 before Tilak Varma accelerated the scoring in the latter half of the innings. Zimbabwe's chase never gathered sustained momentum despite opener Brian Bennett playing positively. Ryan Burl prevented what looked like a certain six on the final ball of the Indian innings with outstanding athleticism at the boundary rope, while Tilak Varma briefly required medical attention after being struck on the body while attempting a catch in the second over of Zimbabwe's innings. The 90-run margin also entered India's record books as their second-biggest T20 International victory over Zimbabwe by runs. Their largest win against the African side remains the 100-run triumph at the same venue in 2024.
