Former JPMorgan Chase Vice President Chirayu Rana has filed an expanded lawsuit in a US federal court accusing the global banking giant and several senior executives of racial discrimination, sexual harassment and workplace retaliation during his tenure at the firm.

The complaint, filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan, replaces an earlier case that Rana had initiated in a New York state court.

The lawsuit names JPMorgan Chase & Co., Executive Director Lorna Hajdini, Managing Directors Brandon Graffeo and Jon Wolter, along with another bank employee, as defendants.

JPMorgan has denied the allegations, stating that they are without merit.

Claims of Workplace Discrimination

According to the complaint, Rana, who is of Nepali origin, alleges that he was the only non-white and non-Christian banker on his team despite being among its top-performing employees.

He claims colleagues repeatedly subjected him to racial abuse, allegedly referring to him with derogatory terms including "Brown Boy," "Brownie," and "monkey."

The lawsuit further alleges that some co-workers suggested his professional success resulted from diversity initiatives rather than merit and mocked him by making comments about conducting business in Indian rupees.

Rana also claims that one colleague threatened to report his family to US immigration authorities and that he later received anonymous messages containing racial threats directed at both him and his family.

Sexual Harassment Allegations

The expanded complaint also reiterates allegations previously made against Executive Director Lorna Hajdini.

Rana alleges that Hajdini made unwanted sexual advances and engaged in inappropriate physical contact while using her senior position to influence his career.

Hajdini has denied all allegations.

Earlier this year, she filed a separate defamation lawsuit against Rana, accusing him of fabricating the claims to damage her reputation and obtain financial compensation.

Her legal representatives have also disputed Rana's assertion that she had authority over his compensation or performance evaluations.

Alleged Retaliation After Complaint

The lawsuit further alleges that after Rana reported the alleged misconduct and resigned from JPMorgan in October 2025, senior executives retaliated against him by damaging his professional reputation.

According to the complaint, those actions contributed to him losing a subsequent employment opportunity at private equity firm Bregal Sagemount earlier this year.

Rana is seeking compensation for lost wages, employment benefits and punitive damages.

Federal Law Violations Cited

The revised lawsuit contains 24 legal claims, including alleged violations of:

• Title VII of the Civil Rights Act

• Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

• Other applicable federal employment laws

His legal team has requested a jury trial, stating that the complaint is supported by documentary evidence collected before filing the case.

JPMorgan Rejects Allegations

JPMorgan has rejected Rana's allegations.

According to statements cited in media reports, the bank maintains that the claims are unfounded and has stated that Rana declined to participate in its internal investigation into the allegations.

The case is expected to proceed through the US federal court system, where both sides will have an opportunity to present evidence.
