Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Kiran Singh Deo sustained serious injuries after the SUV he was travelling in rammed into a stationary truck on National Highway-44 in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur district on Wednesday afternoon. The senior BJP leader, who was returning to Chhattisgarh with his family after a pilgrimage to Madhya Pradesh, suffered a hip fracture and internal injuries but is reported to be out of danger.

According to officials, the accident occurred near Tekri village in Talbehat, around 44 kilometres from the Lalitpur district headquarters. Deo's wife Reena Singh Deo and daughter Ayushi, who were travelling with him, escaped unharmed. The vehicle's driver, personal security officer (PSO) and personal assistant suffered only minor injuries.

Accident Occurred While Avoiding Another Vehicle

Eyewitnesses said the accident took place at around 3:30 pm when a speeding vehicle approaching from the opposite direction allegedly made a sudden turn. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver of Kiran Singh Deo's Toyota Innova reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into the rear of a truck parked along the highway.

The impact severely damaged the front portion of the SUV, crushing it up to the engine compartment. Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the loud crash and informed the police.

Police Rescue Injured BJP Leader

Police personnel from Talbehat Police Station, assisted by local residents, rescued the injured occupants from the mangled vehicle and shifted them to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Talbehat.

Following initial medical examination, doctors referred Kiran Singh Deo to the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi for specialised treatment. Senior administrative and police officials, including Jhansi District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi and Senior Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy, reached the hospital to monitor the situation. BJP leaders and party workers also gathered at the medical facility.

Doctors Confirm Hip Fracture

Doctors treating the BJP state president said there were no major external injuries, but medical investigations revealed internal trauma and a fracture of the hip.

Hospital authorities said CT scans and other diagnostic tests were conducted immediately after admission. A multidisciplinary team comprising specialists from the departments of medicine, orthopaedics, neurosurgery and cardiology has been assigned to his treatment.

Doctors also noted elevated blood sugar levels and initiated appropriate medication along with pain management. Officials indicated that Deo could be airlifted to Chhattisgarh for further treatment once his condition stabilises.

Pilgrimage Before the Mishap

According to police, Kiran Singh Deo had been on a religious tour with his family. The group had visited Bageshwar Dham, Datia's Maa Pitambara Temple, Orchha's Raja Ram Temple, and the Siddheshwar Temple on the banks of the Narmada before beginning their return journey to Raipur.

The accident occurred while the convoy was passing through Lalitpur district. Officials confirmed that the other vehicles travelling with the convoy were not involved in the crash and reached their destinations safely.

Medical Response Under Scrutiny

During treatment at the Jhansi Medical College, reports indicated that there was a brief delay in shifting Kiran Singh Deo for a CT scan because an ambulance was not immediately available.

Hospital staff reportedly had to wait for nearly ten minutes before an ambulance arrived. The movement of the ambulance was further delayed due to vehicles parked near the hospital entrance, forcing medical personnel to push the stretcher manually to the waiting vehicle.

District officials, however, maintained that the BJP leader remained stable throughout the treatment process and continued to receive medical attention from specialist doctors.

Condition Stable, Shift to Higher Centre Likely

Jhansi District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi said doctors are in constant touch with specialists from Chhattisgarh and New Delhi regarding the treatment plan.

He confirmed that Kiran Singh Deo's condition is stable and that he is expected to be shifted to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment after further evaluation.

The incident has drawn concern within the BJP, with party leaders across Chhattisgarh wishing the state president a speedy recovery while authorities continue to monitor his health.

A joint police team from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh came under attack while attempting to arrest a theft accused in Kadiya village of Rajgarh district. Three police personnel were injured after villagers allegedly resorted to stone pelting during the late-night operation.

The incident took place around 11 pm on Tuesday under the jurisdiction of Boda Police Station. Following the attack, a large police force led by senior officers launched a fresh operation on Wednesday morning and detained several suspects.

Joint Operation Faced Resistance

According to police, a seven-member team from Lalitpur district in Uttar Pradesh had reached Kadiya village along with nearly 10 personnel from Boda Police Station to arrest a suspect wanted in a theft case registered in Lalitpur.

As the police team initiated the arrest, family members of the accused and several villagers allegedly opposed the action, leading to a confrontation.

Stone Pelting Leaves Three Policemen Injured

The situation quickly escalated when stones were allegedly hurled at the police team.

A constable from the Lalitpur police sustained minor injuries, while Boda Police Station constables Kapil Ataria and Vinod Ahirwar suffered serious injuries in the attack.

All three injured personnel were initially taken to the Pachore Community Health Centre. After primary treatment, the two seriously injured Madhya Pradesh constables were referred to a private hospital in Biaora for further medical care.

Massive Police Deployment

Following the incident, a large-scale police operation was launched early Wednesday.

Under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police K.L. Banjare, teams from six police stations, including Pachore, Talen, Karanwas and Narsinghgarh, conducted searches in Kadiya village to identify those involved in the attack.

Police said several people accused of participating in the stone pelting have been detained and taken into custody.

Legal Action Underway

Police officials said those responsible for attacking the police team, obstructing government duty and pelting stones would face strict legal action.

Authorities are also verifying the criminal backgrounds of those detained while continuing the search for other suspects allegedly involved in the incident.

The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
