India’s javelin contingent scripted history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal and Yash Vir Singh claimed bronze, marking the country's first-ever double podium finish in the men's javelin event at the Commonwealth Games.

While Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage clinched the gold medal, the spotlight remained firmly on the Indian duo, who delivered impressive performances under challenging weather conditions and reaffirmed India's growing dominance in international javelin competitions.

Neeraj Chopra, competing after returning from a prolonged layoff due to a lower back injury, produced his season-best throw of 85.83 metres. The youngster registered a personal best throw of 85.41 metres on his sixth and final attempt to secure the bronze medal. Following the event, Neeraj expressed happiness over India's historic achievement, saying the double podium reminded him of the Asian Games, where he had shared the podium with fellow Indian javelin thrower Saurav.

"It brings back memories of the Asian Games, where Saurav and I both won medals. I'm really happy that Yashvir achieved a personal best at such a crucial moment. It feels great to be on the podium together," Neeraj said after the competition.

The two-time Olympic medallist also described his season-best performance as a positive sign in his comeback journey after injury.

"I also achieved a season-best, and my comeback is progressing well. There are more competitions ahead, so I'm very happy," he added.

Neeraj's return has been closely watched by athletics fans after he missed several competitions because of his back injury. His silver-medal performance in Glasgow suggests the reigning Olympic champion is gradually returning to top competitive form ahead of the next major international championships.
