A Danish digital content creator's first journey on an Indian sleeper train has gone viral after she shared her honest experience of travelling through India's vast railway network. While describing the trip as physically challenging at times, she said the journey offered a unique opportunity to witness India's culture, people and everyday life up close.

Emma Holm, a digital creator from Denmark, documented her experience on Instagram, where her video has attracted widespread attention from Indian and international audiences.

Journey Began With Ticket Woes

Emma said the adventure started long before boarding the train. She and two friends booked their railway tickets together, but only one of the three tickets was confirmed before departure, while the remaining passengers stayed on the waiting list.

Despite the uncertainty, the group decided to continue with the journey, hoping the situation would improve after boarding.

She noted that dealing with waiting lists and uncertain seat confirmations was an entirely new experience compared to train travel in Europe.

Three Travellers Shared One Seat

The initial phase of the overnight journey proved to be the most difficult.

According to Emma, all three travellers had to share a single sleeper seat for several hours because they did not have confirmed berths. With limited space, sitting comfortably and getting proper rest became difficult.

Later in the journey, however, additional berths became available, allowing the group to spread out and sleep more comfortably.

Although the beginning of the trip was uncomfortable, she said the situation gradually improved as the journey progressed.

Beyond the seating arrangements, Emma said what made the trip memorable was the atmosphere inside the train.

She described hearing conversations in different languages, food vendors moving through the coaches, tea sellers calling out to passengers and the constant movement of travellers throughout the journey.

Initially, the bustling environment felt unfamiliar, but she later realised that it reflected the vibrant character of Indian railway travel.

According to Emma, travelling in a sleeper coach offered a closer look at everyday life in India than any tourist attraction could.
