A major tragedy was narrowly averted at Maharashtra's popular hill station Toranmal after a tourist was left hanging mid-air on a zip line above a deep gorge due to a suspected technical malfunction. The dramatic incident occurred at Sitakhai Point in Nandurbar district and ended safely after the operating staff carried out a successful rescue operation.

The incident, captured by onlookers on mobile phones, has triggered fresh concerns over safety standards at adventure tourism destinations.

Zip Line Stops Midway

According to preliminary information, the tourist was crossing the valley through a zip line when the system suddenly came to a halt midway because of an apparent technical fault.

With the cable immobilised, the tourist remained suspended high above the gorge for a considerable period, unable to move in either direction. Reports claimed the valley below was around 3,500 feet deep, leaving spectators visibly anxious as the rescue unfolded.
