A 13-year-old schoolgirl was critically injured after being hit by a speeding Hyva truck allegedly carrying illegally mined minerals in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district on Wednesday morning. The incident, which occurred under the Chorahata police station limits, triggered protests as angry villagers vandalised the vehicle, accusing authorities of failing to curb the movement of overloaded mineral transport trucks in the area.

According to police, the Hyva truck was travelling from Bholgarh carrying mineral material when it reportedly lost control near Kapuri Road. The vehicle struck the girl, who was standing along the roadside, before continuing ahead.

Girl Shifted to Jabalpur

Local residents rushed to the spot and immediately shifted the injured student to a nearby hospital. After receiving primary treatment in Rewa, doctors referred her to Jabalpur Medical College due to the seriousness of her injuries.

Hospital authorities said the teenager sustained critical injuries and required advanced medical care.

Villagers Damage Truck

The accident sparked outrage among local residents, who gathered at the scene in large numbers. Protesting villagers intercepted the Hyva truck and damaged it, alleging that overloaded vehicles transporting illegally extracted minerals frequently speed through the locality, putting lives at risk.

Residents claimed that repeated complaints regarding reckless driving and illegal mineral transportation had failed to bring any effective action.

Police Restore Order

Police personnel from Chorahata police station reached the spot shortly after the incident and brought the situation under control. The damaged Hyva truck was seized, and officials initiated an investigation into the accident.

Authorities are also examining the vehicle's documents, loading details and other legal compliances to determine whether any violations were involved.

Investigation Underway

Chorahata police station in-charge Pawan Shukla confirmed that the 13-year-old girl sustained serious injuries in the collision and was referred to Jabalpur for specialised treatment.

He said police have registered the case and are investigating all aspects of the incident. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Illegal Mining Vehicles Under Scanner

The incident has once again raised concerns over the movement of overloaded mineral transport vehicles on roads in the Rewa region. Villagers have demanded strict enforcement against illegal mining operations and heavy vehicles allegedly violating traffic and transport regulations.

Local residents said unchecked speeding by such trucks has become a recurring safety concern, especially in villages located along mineral transportation routes.
