Police in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district have arrested a 21-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman in two separate cases related to illegal drug trafficking. The action was carried out as part of the district police’s ongoing campaign against narcotics.

In the first case, personnel from the Smritinagar Police Outpost under Supela Police Station arrested a 21-year-old man in the Khamharia area with 15 grams of chitta, identified by police as heroin. The accused was allegedly looking for customers to sell the substance.

In the second case, Khursipar police arrested a woman who had been absconding for nearly four months in connection with an alleged ganja-selling case. Both accused were produced before a court and sent to judicial remand.

Police Trap Suspect in Khamharia

According to police, a tip-off was received on August 6 that a person was travelling from Junwani towards Khamharia carrying a prohibited narcotic substance and was looking for potential customers.

Acting on the information, a police team reached the area and surrounded the suspect. During a search, officers allegedly recovered two packets containing a total of 15 grams of chitta/heroin.

Police estimated the value of the seized narcotic substance at around ₹3.40 lakh. A Redmi mobile phone was also recovered from the accused, taking the total estimated value of the seizure to approximately ₹3.70 lakh.

Accused Identified as 21-Year-Old

The accused has been identified as Harsh Dev Singh Vij, 21, a resident of Shantinagar in Bhilai.

Police alleged that he was carrying the narcotic substance with the intention of making illegal financial gains by selling it to customers.

A case has been registered under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was arrested and subsequently produced before the court, which sent him to judicial custody.

Woman Was Absconding Since April

The second action was linked to a case involving alleged illegal ganja sales in the Dewar Basti area under Khursipar Police Station.

Police said they had received information on April 30 that several people, including a woman, were allegedly selling ganja illegally in the area. Following the information, police conducted a raid.

A man identified as Hira Singh, 18, was arrested during the operation. However, his alleged associate, Savita Dewar, managed to escape from the spot.

Police said they had been searching for her since then.

Arrest After Four Months

After continued efforts to trace the accused, police arrested Savita Dewar, 45, a resident of Dewar Basti in Khursipar, Bhilai, on August 7.

According to police, she was questioned after her arrest and allegedly admitted her involvement in the sale of ganja. She was then formally arrested and produced before the court, which sent her to judicial remand.

Police had earlier seized 3.2 kg of allegedly illegal ganja in the case. The estimated value of the seized substance was put at ₹1,69,550.

NDPS Act Cases Registered

The ganja case has been registered under Sections 20(b) and 27A of the NDPS Act, according to police.

The two arrests come amid intensified action against narcotics in Durg district. Police said surveillance and enforcement efforts against the illegal sale and transportation of drugs would continue.

The accused in both cases will face further legal proceedings as per the investigation and court process.
