The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra has been temporarily suspended on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes from Sunday, August 9, because of track-restoration work and an adverse weather forecast.

Officials said recent rainfall damaged vulnerable portions of the pilgrimage routes, requiring urgent repair and maintenance before pilgrims can be allowed to proceed safely.

The suspension covers the Chandanwari–Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter Baltal route in Ganderbal district.

No Fresh Movement of Pilgrims

No fresh batch of pilgrims will be permitted to proceed while the suspension remains in force. Pilgrims staying at base camps have been advised to follow official instructions and avoid attempting independent movement towards the cave shrine.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast unsettled weather and further rain in parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days. The combination of rain, slippery tracks and the possibility of falling rocks or landslides has increased safety concerns.

Resumption After Safety Assessment

Officials have not announced a confirmed date for restarting the pilgrimage. Movement will resume only after the weather improves and authorities complete an assessment of the repaired tracks.

The 57-day Amarnath Yatra began on July 3 through the traditional Pahalgam route and the shorter Baltal route. More than 4.8 lakh pilgrims had reportedly visited the holy cave before the latest suspension.

Registered pilgrims should monitor advisories issued by the administration and the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board before planning further travel.
