Madhya Pradesh faces another spell of intense monsoon weather, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a very-heavy-rain warning for western parts of the state and a heavy-rain warning for eastern Madhya Pradesh.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph are also likely at isolated places.

Bhopal Records 12 cm Rain

Heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places in western Madhya Pradesh during the preceding observation period.

According to the IMD, Arera Hills in Bhopal recorded 12 cm of rain, while Guna received 7 cm between 8.30 am on August 9 and 5.30 am on August 10.

These figures indicate that short, intense spells—not merely continuous light rain—are driving the current weather risk.

Low-Pressure Area Moves Over Northern MP

The low-pressure area that was earlier situated over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh was positioned over northern Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood on Monday morning.

Its associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height.

The monsoon trough is passing through Jaisalmer, Guna, the centre of the low-pressure area over northern Madhya Pradesh, Daltonganj and Digha before extending towards the east-central Bay of Bengal.

These systems are expected to maintain high moisture levels over the state.

Rain Forecast for August 10–13

Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over western Madhya Pradesh until August 12 and over eastern Madhya Pradesh until August 11.

The IMD has forecast:

• Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in western Madhya Pradesh on August 10.
• Heavy rain at isolated places in eastern Madhya Pradesh.
• Further heavy rainfall in parts of Madhya Pradesh on August 11.
• Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds until August 13.
• A possible reduction in rain distribution from August 13 onwards.

Safety Advisory

Intense rainfall may cause waterlogging, reduced visibility and temporary disruption to road and rail traffic. Tree branches and small trees may fall during strong winds, while kutcha houses and other vulnerable structures could suffer damage.

Residents should avoid flooded roads, overflowing streams and underpasses. People should not shelter under trees or near electricity poles during thunderstorms.

The order covers all:

• Private and aided schools
