US President Donald Trump was reportedly moved inside an airport catering truck and transferred to a smaller military aircraft during a covert security operation prompted by an alleged Iranian assassination threat.

The reported operation took place on July 8, 2026, after Trump attended a NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye. It was first detailed by The Washington Post, which cited material reviewed by the newspaper, a US official familiar with the operation and another person with knowledge of the president’s travel.

Trump Boarded Visible Aircraft Before Secret Transfer

Television cameras captured Trump boarding an older, blue-and-white presidential Boeing 747 at Ankara International Airport. Journalists and some White House officials reportedly believed the president would travel aboard that aircraft to RAF Mildenhall in Britain.

According to the reports, Trump and several aides later entered a catering truck that was raised to a door on the opposite side of the aircraft. The vehicle then carried them across the airport to a smaller US Air Force C-32A, a military version of the Boeing 757 used for senior government travel.

The president reportedly flew to Britain aboard the C-32A, while the larger aircraft continued as a decoy with journalists and White House personnel on board.

Reporters travelling on the visible aircraft were allegedly instructed to close their window shades before departure.

Secret Aircraft Arrived First in Britain

The C-32A carrying Trump reportedly reached RAF Mildenhall at approximately 10.20 pm local time. The larger presidential aircraft carrying the press landed several minutes later.

At 10.56 pm, journalists saw Trump descending from the older Air Force One aircraft. The reports said it remained unclear exactly how he had been moved back to the aircraft at Mildenhall without the travelling press witnessing the transfer.

Trump greeted US service personnel at the British airbase before boarding the newly converted Boeing 747 donated by Qatar for the remaining flight to Washington.

What Prompted the Reported Operation?

The Washington Post said the unusual security arrangement followed intelligence concerning a credible Iranian threat against Trump.

The operation occurred amid heightened confrontation between Washington and Tehran. Previous reports had said US intelligence officials were concerned about a possible attack on either the president or his aircraft, leading to additional security precautions.

The White House did not directly confirm or deny the catering-truck transfer. Communications Director Steven Cheung said the administration uses every available measure to address threats against the president.
