Google Pixel Tag Launches in India: Price, Features, Battery and AirTag Comparison

Google Pixel Tag launches in India as an Apple AirTag rival with Find Hub, UWB, Bluetooth Channel Sounding, Gemini integration, replaceable battery and IP67 protection.

Google has entered the Bluetooth tracker market with the launch of the Pixel Tag in India, taking on Apple's AirTag with a tracker designed around the Android ecosystem. The device was introduced at Google's Made by Google 2026 event and uses the company's Find Hub network to help users locate lost belongings.

The Pixel Tag can be attached to everyday items such as keys, wallets and bags. When an item goes missing, users can use the Find Hub app to check the tracker's location and, when it is within Bluetooth range, make the device play a sound.

Google's Answer to AirTag

The biggest difference between Pixel Tag and Apple's AirTag is the tracking network they use.

AirTag relies on Apple's Find My network, while Pixel Tag uses Google's Find Hub network. Google says Find Hub can draw on more than one billion Android devices, potentially allowing a Pixel Tag to be located even when it is outside the direct Bluetooth range of its owner.

The tracker can be paired with Android smartphones running Android 9 or later. Users can give their trackers custom names, view their location on a map and share access with up to 10 people.

More Accurate Location Tracking

Google has equipped Pixel Tag with technologies designed to make short-range tracking more precise.

The tracker supports Ultra-Wideband (UWB) as well as Bluetooth Channel Sounding, allowing compatible devices to provide more accurate directional guidance when searching for a misplaced item.

When the tracker is nearby, its built-in speaker can also be activated to help users identify its exact location.

Gemini Integration

Google has also brought its Gemini AI assistant into the Pixel Tag experience.

Users can ask Gemini to help locate or ring their Pixel Tag. This provides an additional way to find a misplaced item without having to manually navigate through the tracking application.

The tracker can also work in the opposite direction. A physical button on the Pixel Tag can be pressed to make a connected Pixel phone ring, even when the phone is set to silent mode.

Alerts for Forgotten Items

The Pixel Tag includes features designed to reduce the chances of users leaving important belongings behind.

Users can receive alerts when they leave a tagged item behind. Google has also included an unknown tracker alert, which can notify users if an unfamiliar tracker appears to be travelling with them.

The feature is intended to provide protection against unwanted or unauthorised tracking and addresses one of the key safety concerns associated with Bluetooth trackers.

Battery Lasts Over a Year

The Pixel Tag uses a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery. Google says the battery can last for more than a year, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

The tracker also carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. According to Google, it can withstand immersion in up to one metre of water for up to 30 minutes.

Pixel Tag vs Apple AirTag

The Pixel Tag is positioned as Google's Android-focused alternative to Apple's AirTag.

While both products are designed to locate everyday belongings, their biggest ecosystem difference is the network behind them. AirTag is built around Apple's Find My network, whereas Pixel Tag uses Google's Find Hub and the wider Android device ecosystem.

For Android users, particularly those already using compatible Pixel devices, features such as UWB, Bluetooth Channel Sounding and Gemini integration could make Pixel Tag a useful addition to everyday device tracking.

What Makes Pixel Tag Different?

Google's strategy with Pixel Tag goes beyond simply copying the basic Bluetooth-tracker formula. The company is combining its Android ecosystem, Find Hub network and Gemini AI capabilities with hardware features aimed at improving short-range location accuracy.

The success of the Pixel Tag in India will ultimately depend on factors including its pricing, compatibility, network coverage and how effectively Google's Find Hub network performs in real-world situations.
