According to the chief minister, many remote settlements have low population density. As a result, strict population-based norms can prevent smaller habitations from qualifying for road projects despite their need for better connectivity.

The state has therefore sought greater flexibility in the central scheme's rules.

Chhattisgarh has received several roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, but the government wants additional support for isolated settlements in Bastar.

Sai said he requested the Union minister to relax the existing norms so that roads could reach more remote communities.

The chief minister said Chouhan listened to the request and assured him that he would take steps on the issue.

Better roads would improve access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and government services for communities across Bastar.
