Finland has launched an investigation after a Russian state aircraft was suspected of briefly entering Finnish sovereign airspace over the Gulf of Finland, raising fresh security concerns along the NATO-Russia frontier.

The suspected incident occurred off the coast of Porvoo, where Finnish authorities said the aircraft travelled several kilometres inside Finnish territory before turning back towards international airspace. Finland's Defence Ministry said its air-surveillance and defence systems were activated to track the aircraft and establish what happened.
