AI Update for Students: Gemini Student Hub, ChatGPT Teen Features

Google Gemini and ChatGPT introduce new student-focused features, including Gemini’s free student plan, Study Notebook and ChatGPT’s safer experience for teenagers aged 13 to 17.

Google Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT are expanding their education-focused features, giving students new ways to study, organise notes, practise questions and use AI for academic research. While Google is offering eligible students access to a one-year AI plan with additional study tools, OpenAI has introduced a separate, safety-focused ChatGPT experience for teenagers aged 13 to 17.

With AI increasingly being used for homework, projects and exam preparation, both platforms are adding features aimed at making learning more interactive and structured.

Google Gemini Offers Free Student Plan

Eligible college students outside the US, including students in India, can access Google AI Plus for one year under the student offer. The plan provides higher usage limits in Gemini, 400GB of storage and access to several study-oriented features.

One of the key additions is Study Notebook, which allows students to upload lecture notes and other learning material. Gemini can then organise the information and help create study plans, short lessons and practice questions based on the uploaded content.

The platform also offers interactive 3D models and visual learning tools. These can be useful for students studying subjects where visual explanations are important, such as biology and molecular structures.

Gemini can also integrate with Google Calendar, with user permission. Students can use the feature to add examination and assignment dates mentioned in their syllabus to their calendars, helping them keep track of academic deadlines.

Students can check the available student plan and features through Google Gemini for Students.

ChatGPT Introduces Teen-Focused Experience

OpenAI has also introduced a separate ChatGPT experience for teenagers aged 13 to 17, with additional safety measures designed for younger users.

The experience includes parental controls that allow parents to manage certain settings related to their child’s ChatGPT use. Parents may also receive safety-related notifications in certain situations.

For education, teenagers can use Study Mode, which is designed to encourage learning rather than simply providing an answer. It can help students work through concepts, understand homework questions and prepare for examinations.

The teen-focused experience also applies age-tailored safety protections intended to reduce exposure to potentially inappropriate or risky content.

AI Tools Focus on Learning

The latest developments show how major AI platforms are increasingly positioning their products as learning assistants rather than simple question-and-answer tools.

For students, features such as document analysis, practice questions, study plans, interactive explanations and learning modes can make AI useful across different stages of academic preparation.

However, students still need to verify information generated by AI, particularly when using it for assignments, research papers or examination preparation. AI-generated answers can contain errors or incomplete information, so important academic claims should be checked against textbooks, official sources and other reliable references.
