Shivakumar later told reporters that this was the first time Adani had visited him since he became Chief Minister. He said the Adani Group was creating significant employment opportunities in Karnataka and described the meeting as a courtesy interaction.

Speaking about the meeting, Shivakumar said Adani had come to meet him and left after the interaction.

The Chief Minister did not publicly disclose details of any business discussions. Sources close to the CM also described the meeting as a courtesy visit.

Tunnel Project In Focus

The meeting has attracted attention because Adani Enterprises has emerged as the lowest bidder for the proposed Hebbal-Silk Board tunnel road project in Bengaluru.

The proposed corridor is around 16.75-17 km long and is intended to provide an alternative route through some of Bengaluru’s busiest stretches.

Bid Above Estimate

Adani Enterprises reportedly quoted around ₹22,267 crore for the project, compared with the Karnataka government’s estimated project cost of approximately ₹17,698 crore.

The tender has not yet been finalised, and the contract has not been formally awarded. The difference between the bid and the government estimate has become a key point of discussion around the project.

BJP Questions Congress

The meeting has also triggered criticism from the Karnataka BJP, which accused the Congress government of adopting a different position towards Adani from the one taken by the party at the national level.

BJP leaders have questioned the timing of the meeting, particularly because of the ongoing debate over the tunnel road project and its financial viability.

Shivakumar has defended the interaction by pointing to the Adani Group’s business presence and employment generation in Karnataka.
