The US State Department said the adjustment is linked to a global training programme for consular officers, while reports indicate that applicants with already scheduled interviews have received notices about cancellations or rescheduling. 

The development could affect applicants waiting for US visas across different categories, with the exact impact depending on the embassy or consulate handling their case. The State Department has not specified how long the changes will remain in place or provided a detailed timeline for the resumption of regular appointments. 

Global Training Programme

A State Department spokesperson said a global training initiative has been launched across US embassies and consulates. Visa service appointments are being adjusted to accommodate the training, according to the department.

The training is intended to help consular officers assess visa applicants more comprehensively and consistently. Officials have also indicated that the programme will focus on identifying applicants who could become dependent on US public benefits. 

The department has not publicly provided details about the duration or full scope of the training.
