India vs Cape Verde Friendly Faces Commercial Roadblock: Report

India's proposed friendly against 2026 World Cup breakout side Cape Verde is now in doubt after the two sides reportedly failed to agree on commercial terms.

ndia's proposed football friendly against Cape Verde during the September-October FIFA international window appears increasingly unlikely after talks between the two sides reportedly hit a commercial roadblock.

According to a report by Times Now, discussions between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Cape Verde's football authorities have not resulted in an agreement on the commercial aspects of the proposed fixture. Sources cited by the publication said the match is now unlikely to go ahead.

The development is a setback to plans for India to face another team that made headlines at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Earlier reports had suggested that Cape Verde could visit India between September 30 and October 6, either before or after India's much-anticipated meeting with Brazil in Kolkata.

The proposed Cape Verde match had generated considerable interest because of the African side's impressive World Cup campaign. Cape Verde reached the knockout stage on their tournament debut after going unbeaten in the group phase, including a goalless draw against eventual champions Spain and a 2-2 draw with Uruguay. They were eventually eliminated by Argentina after extra time.

For India, the fixture would have offered another opportunity to test the national team against a side with recent experience of competing at the highest level. It would also have provided a potentially valuable preparation game around the team's confirmed Brazil assignment.

AIFF has officially confirmed that Brazil will face India in Kolkata on October 3. The federation described the fixture as a landmark opportunity for Indian players to test themselves against one of the world's strongest national teams.

The Brazil match is therefore not affected by the uncertainty surrounding Cape Verde. What remains unclear is whether AIFF can secure another opponent for the additional date in the international window.

Reports have already indicated that AIFF could look at alternatives if the Cape Verde negotiations fail. One report said Uruguay was being considered for an October friendly, although that possibility is also not officially confirmed.

The commercial disagreement is particularly significant because the Cape Verde fixture was still in the discussion stage. Earlier reports had indicated that the date, venue and other modalities had not been formally finalised.

That means the proposed game should not be treated as a cancelled official fixture at this stage. The available information only indicates that negotiations have stalled and that the match is now considered unlikely.

For Indian football, the focus will now shift to whether AIFF can find a suitable replacement. With Brazil already confirmed for October 3, another high-quality opponent would give India an additional test during a potentially important international window.

Vozinha Makes Colo-Colo Debut With Clean Sheet in Copa Chile

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha finally made his long-awaited debut for Colo-Colo on Wednesday, keeping a clean sheet as the Chilean giants defeated Union Espanola 3-0 in the Copa Chile.

The 40-year-old, whose full name is Josimar Evora Dias, had arrived in Chile earlier this month after Colo-Colo announced his signing. His debut had been delayed by paperwork and personal matters, but he eventually took his place in goal for the final Group E match.

Vozinha had already been part of the squad for several matches, including the Superclasico against Universidad de Chile, but remained on the bench for that game. This time, coach Fernando Ortiz handed him his first start for the club.

The timing proved significant. Colo-Colo entered the match already assured of a place in the Copa Chile knockout stage, with the game serving as an opportunity for Vozinha to finally begin his competitive career in Chile.

The goalkeeper finished the night with a clean sheet as Colo-Colo secured a comfortable 3-0 victory and finished top of their group. Maximiliano Romero opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, while the Chilean side added two more goals to complete the win.

Vozinha was not seriously tested for long periods, but he produced several interventions when Union Espanola pushed forward in the second half. His performance was enough to give him a successful first outing and earn an ovation from the Colo-Colo supporters.

His arrival at Colo-Colo followed a memorable 2026 World Cup with Cape Verde. The veteran goalkeeper became one of the breakout figures of the tournament as Cape Verde reached the knockout stage in their first-ever World Cup appearance.

Cape Verde held Spain and Uruguay to draws in the group stage before being eliminated by Argentina in the round of 32. Vozinha's saves were central to the team's historic campaign and helped turn him into an international football sensation.

Colo-Colo had signed Vozinha on a six-month contract with an option to extend for another year. The club had initially faced uncertainty over his arrival, with delays keeping him away from the squad longer than expected.

His next challenge will be to establish himself as Colo-Colo's first-choice goalkeeper. Before his debut, 19-year-old academy product Gabriel Maureira had stepped in following an injury to regular goalkeeper Fernando De Paul and had impressed with his performances, meaning Vozinha is not guaranteed the starting position.

For now, however, the World Cup sensation has made the start he would have wanted: a first appearance, a victory and a clean sheet.
