Nepal Flood: 29 Relatives From Bhopal Missing After Gosaikunda Trip

Twenty-nine relatives from a Bhopal family are missing after Nepal flash floods. The group last contacted relatives on August 26 from the Gosaikunda region.

A family in Bhopal is desperately seeking information about 29 relatives who have been missing in Nepal after devastating flash floods struck the Himalayan region. The group had travelled to the Gosaikunda pilgrimage site in Rasuwa district and lost contact with relatives in Bhopal on August 26.

The missing group includes several closely related family members, including brothers and their wives, sisters and brothers-in-law. Relatives say they have been unable to establish contact since the last phone conversation.

Group Went To Gosaikunda

The 29-member group from a Bhopal-based family had travelled to Nepal for a pilgrimage to Gosaikunda, a sacred Himalayan lake in Rasuwa district.

The journey coincided with preparations for Janai Purnima, the annual Hindu festival that draws thousands of pilgrims to Gosaikunda. In 2026, Janai Purnima falls on August 28.

According to relatives, the group was travelling together when the sudden flash floods hit the area.

Last Call On August 26

Devki Adhikari, a relative based in Bhopal's Kolar area, told local media that the family last spoke to the group at around 9:30 am on Wednesday, August 26.

During the conversation, the travellers reportedly said floodwaters had suddenly risen and that they had taken shelter on the roof of a building.

They then told relatives that they were moving towards higher ground to save themselves. The call was subsequently disconnected, and repeated attempts to contact the group have not yielded any response.

‘Take Care Of Children’

The final conversation has deepened the family's fears.

According to accounts given by relatives to local media, one member of the group told those back home that their situation was extremely dangerous and asked them to take care of the children if they did not survive.

The family has not confirmed the deaths of any members of the group. At present, they are being reported as missing or untraceable, and relatives continue to hope that some or all of them may have reached safer areas.

Phones Remain Unreachable

Relatives say the mobile phones of the travellers have remained unreachable since the last communication.

The group was reportedly travelling in a bus, but family members have also been unable to obtain clear information about the vehicle's whereabouts following the disaster.

With roads, bridges and other infrastructure damaged by the floods, locating stranded people in the mountainous terrain has become particularly difficult.

Rescue Operations Underway

The flash floods have caused widespread destruction along parts of the Nepal-Tibet border, with large numbers of people reported dead or missing.

Nepalese authorities, security forces and rescue agencies have been conducting search and relief operations in affected areas. Foreign tourists and pilgrims have also been among those affected by the disaster.

For the Bhopal family, however, the immediate priority remains locating their 29 relatives and confirming their safety.

Relatives Seek Official Help

Family members in Bhopal are contacting authorities and agencies involved in the rescue operation to obtain information about the missing group.

The incident has also added to concerns in Madhya Pradesh, where several people travelling in Nepal have reportedly been caught up in the disaster.

The state government has established a control room in New Delhi to assist Madhya Pradesh residents stranded in Nepal and their families. Earlier reports said the government had issued helpline numbers for assistance.

Hope For Safe Return

The disappearance of 29 relatives has left several families in Bhopal waiting anxiously for news.

For now, officials have not confirmed that the group has died, and relatives continue to hope that the travellers managed to escape the flood zone and are stranded somewhere without communication.

The case underlines the severe difficulties facing rescue teams in the mountainous region, where flash floods have damaged access routes and disrupted communication.

As search operations continue, the families in Bhopal are waiting for the one piece of information they most urgently need — confirmation that their loved ones are safe.
