Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated across India on September 4, with this year's festival gaining special significance due to a rare celestial combination. According to astrologers, Janmashtami will coincide with both the Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra at midnight, a combination that is believed to have occurred during the birth of Lord Krishna in the Dvapara Yuga.

Astrologer Pandit Akshat Vyas said such a combination does not occur every year. While the Ashtami Tithi is generally present during Janmashtami, Rohini Nakshatra does not always coincide with it. This year, however, both will occur together, making the occasion particularly significant from a religious and astrological perspective. The Rohini Nakshatra is also considered especially important for the birth celebration in the Ramanandi tradition.

Midnight Ashtami-Rohini Combination

The simultaneous presence of Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra around midnight is regarded as an important feature of this year's Janmashtami. According to traditional beliefs, Lord Krishna was born at midnight during the eighth lunar day under Rohini Nakshatra.

Pandit Vyas said that in several years, the Moon remains in Taurus during Janmashtami, but the Rohini Nakshatra does not necessarily coincide with the midnight birth period. This year, the key astrological elements are expected to come together, adding religious significance to the celebrations.

Ujjain Temples Prepare for Celebrations

Major Krishna temples in Ujjain are preparing for special rituals, decorations and devotional programmes on September 4. Devotees are expected to visit temples throughout the day, with special ceremonies scheduled around midnight.

At the ISKCON temple in Bharatpuri, the celebrations will include the ceremonial bathing, or abhishek, of Lord Radha Mohan. The deity will be dressed in new clothes and decorated with jewellery and floral garlands. Prasad will also be distributed among devotees.

Special Rituals at Gopal Mandir

The historic Shri Dwarkadhish Gopal Mandir, associated with the Scindia Trust, will conduct Panchamrit pujan and abhishek before opening the temple for devotees. Special decorations will be arranged for the occasion.

A devotional performance by Dholi Bua will also be held as part of the celebrations. A special aarti is scheduled for midnight to mark the birth of Lord Krishna.

Celebrations at Sandipani Ashram

Sandipani Ashram, traditionally regarded as the place where Lord Krishna received his education, will also hold special religious programmes on Janmashtami. Devotees will be able to visit the ashram for darshan from morning until night.

Special prayers and aarti will be organised as part of the festival. The convergence of Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra is expected to add to the religious significance of the celebrations in Ujjain.

Religious Significance

Janmashtami is observed on the eighth day of the dark fortnight of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna. Midnight prayers, devotional singing, abhishek and aarti are among the major rituals associated with the festival.

This year's reported Ashtami-Rohini combination is therefore expected to draw particular attention among devotees and followers of Vaishnav traditions. According to the information provided by the astrologer, major Vaishnav and Ramanandi traditions will observe Janmashtami on September 4.
