Large parts of the Trishuli region in Nepal's Nuwakot district have been devastated by the recent flash floods, with markets, buildings and other infrastructure suffering extensive damage as rescue and relief teams continue operations in the affected areas.

The destruction is particularly visible around Trishuli Bazaar, where floodwaters and debris have damaged commercial structures and disrupted normal life. Rescue workers and local volunteers are continuing to clear mud and debris while searching for people who may still be missing in the flood-hit areas. 

Trishuli market badly affected

The floodwaters caused extensive destruction in the Trishuli area, leaving sections of the market covered with mud, debris and damaged material.

Visuals from the affected region show the scale of the destruction, with shops and other structures severely impacted by the force of the flood. The disaster has also affected roads and other essential infrastructure, making movement and rescue operations difficult.

Nuwakot is among the areas along the Trishuli River corridor that have been badly affected by the disaster.

Rescue teams continue search operations

Rescue and recovery operations are continuing across Nuwakot. Local volunteers, security personnel and other response teams have been deployed to clear debris and search for survivors and missing people.

In Devighat, volunteers from Likhu Rural Municipality have joined cleanup and rescue operations using heavy machinery and tipper trucks. Teams are working through mud and debris in an effort to recover victims and reopen access to affected areas. 

The difficult terrain and continuing risks from unstable debris and river conditions have made the operation challenging.

Hydropower sites remain a major focus

The Trishuli River corridor is also home to several hydropower projects, some of which have been severely affected by the floods.

Rescue operations are continuing at hydropower facilities in Nuwakot and neighbouring Rasuwa, where workers are feared to have been trapped inside tunnels filled with mud and debris. At the Upper Trishuli-3A project in Nuwakot, rescue teams have been working to clear blocked access and reach people believed to be trapped underground. 

International assistance has also been involved in the wider rescue effort, with teams and equipment from countries including India, China and South Korea supporting operations at affected hydropower sites. 

Roads and infrastructure damaged

The floods have caused widespread damage to roads, bridges, buildings and power infrastructure across the affected parts of Nepal.

The destruction of transport links has complicated the movement of rescue teams and heavy equipment. Authorities and volunteers are therefore working to clear debris and restore access to affected settlements.

The disaster has also disrupted hydropower generation, adding to the pressure on Nepal's infrastructure at a time when rescue teams are still searching for missing people. 

Relief operations continue

Alongside search operations, relief efforts are being carried out for people who have lost homes and livelihoods in the floods.

Relief centres in affected areas have been providing basic supplies, while helicopters and ground teams have been used to move survivors from isolated locations to safer areas. 

Authorities face the additional challenge of reaching remote areas where roads and bridges have been damaged or washed away.

Situation remains critical

The situation remains fluid as rescue teams continue to assess damage and search for survivors and missing people.

The latest reports indicate that the disaster has affected a wide area along Nepal's northern river corridors, with Nuwakot and Rasuwa among the key areas where rescue operations are still underway. Search teams are continuing to work through mud-filled areas, damaged infrastructure and blocked hydropower tunnels as authorities try to account for those still untraceable.
