Port of Spain: Shimron Hetmyer produced a record-equalling century as Guyana Amazon Warriors extended their unbeaten start to the 2026 Caribbean Premier League, defeating Trinbago Knight Riders by nine runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method at Queen’s Park Oval on Monday.Hetmyer smashed an unbeaten 111 off just 43 balls, including eight fours and nine sixes, as the Warriors posted 185/5 in 16 overs after rain reduced the contest. Trinbago Knight Riders were set a revised target of 182 and finished on 172/7.

Hetmyer matches CPL fastest-century record

The left-hander reached his century in just 40 balls, equalling the record for the fastest hundred in CPL history.The innings was even more significant because it came in Hetmyer's 100th CPL appearance. He initially had to rebuild after the Warriors lost Glenn Phillips and Shai Hope early, but once play resumed following the rain interruption, he shifted gears dramatically.Hetmyer brought up his half-century from 27 balls before launching a late assault. He hit debutant Lahiru Kumara for 30 runs in the 13th over, while Romario Shepherd provided valuable support at the other end.The pair added 85 runs in the final four overs, allowing Guyana to reach 185 despite being reduced to 22/2 before the rain delay.

Rain changes the match

The game was originally scheduled as a 20-over contest but was reduced to 16 overs per side after a lengthy rain interruption.Guyana's early problems came from Trinbago's bowlers. Akeal Hosein dismissed Glenn Phillips, while Lahiru Kumara removed Shai Hope, leaving the Warriors in trouble before the weather intervened.The shortened format, however, appeared to work in Guyana's favour. Hetmyer took advantage of the limited overs and accelerated heavily in the second half of the innings.

Knight Riders start strongly but lose momentum

Chasing 182 under the revised DLS target, Trinbago Knight Riders made a promising start and reached 52/1 during the PowerPlay.Sunil Narine fell after a spectacular one-handed boundary catch by Glenn Phillips, while Mohammad Nabi subsequently dismissed Colin Munro. Nicholas Pooran briefly put the Warriors under pressure with an aggressive 43 off 24 balls, including seven boundaries and four sixes.Nabi then provided the decisive breakthrough by removing Pooran. The Knight Riders slipped from 52/1 to 68/5 in three overs, dramatically changing the course of the chase.

Nabi's three wickets prove decisive

Mohammad Nabi finished with 3/20 from three overs, breaking the middle-order resistance at crucial moments.Alex Hales kept Trinbago's hopes alive with a brisk 55 off 24 balls, including seven sixes. He was eventually dismissed by Shamar Joseph, leaving the Knight Riders needing a steep 40 runs from the final two overs.Joshua Da Silva and Dominic Drakes continued to attack, but Trinbago could not complete the chase. They finished on 172/7, handing Guyana a nine-run DLS victory.

Guyana remain unbeaten

The victory gives the Guyana Amazon Warriors four wins from four matches, keeping their perfect record intact.
