Weather alerts, political developments and observances will be among the key areas to watch on September 3, 2026, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall across several parts of the country.

The latest IMD forecast indicates widespread to fairly widespread rainfall in regions including West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, parts of north India and the Northeast. Heavy rainfall is also expected in several areas during the period. 

Rain Forecast Across Several States

The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over West Madhya Pradesh from September 3 to 6, while East Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive widespread rainfall through September 5. Chhattisgarh is also likely to experience widespread rainfall during the first week of September. 

The weather department has separately forecast widespread rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi from September 3 to 4 and over West Uttar Pradesh from September 3 to 5. East Rajasthan is also expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall, with heavy rain possible on September 3 and 4. 

In eastern and northeastern India, rainfall activity is expected to continue over parts of Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and the northeastern states. The IMD has also warned of heavy rainfall in some areas, including Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. 

Madhya Pradesh Under Rain Watch

Madhya Pradesh remains among the regions receiving significant attention in the latest forecast. West Madhya Pradesh is expected to see fairly widespread to widespread rainfall from September 3 onward, while East Madhya Pradesh is also forecast to receive widespread rainfall.

The IMD's earlier extended forecast had indicated the possibility of isolated very heavy rainfall over West Madhya Pradesh during September 3–5. 

Residents should follow local weather warnings issued by the respective IMD meteorological centres, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging, flooding and disruptions caused by heavy rain.

Wind Warning Along Coastal Areas

The 65-kmph wind figure should be interpreted in its proper context. An IMD warning for September 3 indicates squally winds of 45–55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, along and off the Somalia coast, parts of the westcentral and southwest Arabian Sea and a few areas of the Gulf of Mannar. The warning is primarily relevant to marine and fishing activities.

It should therefore not be described as a 65-kmph wind warning covering all 19 states.

Political Activity to Watch

Political developments will also remain in focus on September 3. The Bahujan Samaj Party, led by Mayawati, has been holding organisational meetings as it prepares for upcoming political challenges, particularly in Uttar Pradesh.

Recent BSP activity has included a state-level meeting in Lucknow chaired by Mayawati, while the party has also announced plans for a large programme on October 9 to mark the death anniversary of founder Kanshi Ram. 

Any specific claim regarding a major all-India BSP meeting on September 3 should be confirmed through an official party statement before being reported as a scheduled event.

Merchant Navy Day

September 3 is also observed as Merchant Navy Day in the United Kingdom. The day commemorates merchant seafarers and recognises the contribution made by merchant shipping, including during wartime.

The observance highlights the importance of merchant fleets in transporting essential goods and supporting international trade.

Other September 3 Updates

September 3 will also see several technology, academic and cultural programmes across India. The Genomics India Conference 2026 in Bengaluru, EV India Expo 2026 in Greater Noida and Esri India User Conference 2026 in New Delhi are all scheduled to conclude on or around the date.
