Tamil Nadu Assembly: Vijay Set to Answer DMK Allegations

Tamil Nadu CM Vijay is set to respond to DMK allegations in the Assembly on September 7 amid a growing political row over law and order.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to respond in the state Assembly on Monday, September 7, to allegations levelled by the opposition DMK against his government, bringing the political confrontation between the two sides into sharper focus.

The scheduled response follows a heated Assembly debate in which DMK Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalinquestioned the TVK-led government's handling of law and order and other governance issues. Vijay had indicated that he would answer the allegations point by point and urged opposition members to remain in the House to hear his response.

Vijay Promises Point-by-Point Response

The Chief Minister had told the Assembly that he would personally respond to the questions and allegations raised by the opposition on September 7.

Vijay also challenged DMK members not to walk out during his reply. He asked the Speaker to ensure that opposition members remained in their seats while he addressed the issues raised during the debate.

The remarks have set the stage for a potentially contentious session as the ruling TVK government faces sustained criticism from the DMK.

Udhayanidhi Raises Law and Order Issues

During the Assembly discussion, Udhayanidhi Stalin criticised the government over what he described as deterioration in law and order.

According to reports from the Assembly proceedings, the DMK leader raised issues involving crimes, including sexual offences, murders and deaths in police or prison custody. He also questioned the government's response to complaints involving members of the ruling party and criticised the implementation of government programmes.

The allegations are political claims made by the opposition and do not by themselves establish government wrongdoing.

Fresh Pressure on Vijay Government

The timing of the debate has added to the political pressure on the TVK administration. A TVK functionary was hacked to death in Chennai shortly before Vijay's scheduled Assembly response, prompting opposition parties to raise fresh questions over the state's law-and-order situation.

Police have arrested five people in connection with the killing, according to current reports, while the investigation into the incident continues.

The incident has given the opposition another issue to raise while the government prepares to defend its record on policing and public safety.

DMK and TVK Face Off in Assembly

The Assembly confrontation reflects the increasingly direct political contest between the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the DMK.

Vijay, who entered electoral politics after a career in cinema, is leading the state government, while Udhayanidhi Stalin is serving as Leader of the Opposition. The two sides have increasingly traded accusations over governance, public safety and political performance.

The Assembly has consequently become an important arena for both parties to present their competing claims before the public.

Vijay Government Faces Opposition Scrutiny

The DMK has sought to portray the government's early performance as inadequate, while the TVK leadership has rejected the opposition's criticism.

The Chief Minister's planned response is therefore expected to focus on the government's record and address the specific allegations raised during the debate. Whether the exchange remains confined to the Assembly or develops into a wider political confrontation will be closely watched.

Political Activity Intensifies

The latest Assembly clash comes as political activity in Tamil Nadu intensifies, with rival parties positioning themselves on governance and broader political questions.

For Vijay, Monday's Assembly response provides an opportunity to directly defend his government's record. For the DMK, the debate offers a platform to press the government on law and order and other issues it says require greater accountability.

The focus now shifts to Vijay's response and whether it leads to another round of confrontation between the ruling TVK and the opposition DMK inside the House.
