Rameshwar Sharma Qazi Camp Remark Sparks Political Row

BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma’s Qazi Camp missile remark in Bhopal triggers a political row, with Congress seeking a response from CM Mohan Yadav.

A statement by BJP Huzur MLA Rameshwar Sharma at a Matki Phod event in Bhopal has triggered a political controversy after he said that a missile fired from Karond Square should land at Qazi Camp. Sharma later clarified that he was referring to a “Qazi Camp” in Islamabad, not the locality in Bhopal.

The remark was made during a public programme at Bhagat Singh Square in Karond on Sunday night, September 6, where Sharma was speaking about nationalism, Hindu unity, terrorism and India’s military capabilities. Videos of the speech subsequently circulated on social media, prompting criticism from opposition leaders.

What Rameshwar Sharma said

While referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, surgical strikes and India’s missile capabilities, Sharma said that a missile could be launched from Karond Square and made to land at Qazi Camp.

The statement immediately drew attention because Qazi Camp is a known locality in Bhopal. According to reports, Sharma soon after the remark clarified that he was not referring to Bhopal’s Qazi Camp but to one in Islamabad.

The MLA also spoke about Pakistan and said that Matki Phod competitions could eventually be held in cities including Lahore, Dhaka and Islamabad. He linked the remarks to his broader message about Hindu unity and a strong national response to terrorism.

MLA’s clarification over ‘Qazi Camp’

As the video began attracting criticism, Sharma clarified that his reference was to Islamabad rather than Bhopal.

The explanation itself has become part of the political dispute. Congress leaders have questioned whether there is a locality called Qazi Camp in Islamabad and have asked Sharma to explain precisely what location he meant.

Several reports have also noted that searches for such a locality in Islamabad have not produced clear confirmation. This remains a point raised by the opposition rather than an independently established fact about Sharma’s intent.

Congress asks CM Mohan Yadav to respond

Congress has demanded that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav clarify the government’s position on the MLA’s remarks and whether any action will be taken.

Congress media coordinator Abbas Hafiz questioned Sharma’s explanation and argued that referring to a locality in Bhopal in connection with a missile strike was inappropriate for a public platform. Congress leaders have also criticised the remarks as potentially inflammatory and sought a response from the state government.

Other Congress leaders have also taken the issue to social media, accusing the BJP MLA of making remarks that could intensify communal tensions. These are political allegations and should not be treated as an official finding against Sharma.

Controversy comes amid Pakistan references

Sharma’s speech included repeated references to Pakistan, terrorism and India’s military strength. He spoke about the possibility of Matki Phod events being organised in Pakistani cities and used the imagery of missiles and bombs while discussing a strong response to terrorism.

The controversy has therefore centred not only on the specific Qazi Camp remark but also on the wider tone of the speech and the subsequent clarification.

No government action confirmed so far

As of September 8, the political debate is focused on the statement, Sharma’s clarification and Congress’ demand for government action. Reports have not established that any final government decision or disciplinary action has been taken against the MLA.

The episode also highlights the sensitivity surrounding statements made by elected representatives at public gatherings, particularly when references to specific localities and violence are involved.
