The failure led to restrictions on arriving and departing flights across parts of the London Flight Information Region, significantly reducing the flow of air traffic.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">The UK’s air navigation services provider, National Air Traffic Services (NATS), said engineers identified the problem in its flight-processing system and implemented a fix. However, the agency warned that it would take time for flight schedules to return to normal.</p>
<h4><strong>NATS Identifies System Failure</strong></h4>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">NATS said its engineers were working urgently after the disruption emerged, eventually identifying the fault within its flight-processing system.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">The agency said UK airspace remained open despite the technical problem and that flights continued to operate, although at reduced capacity.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">NATS apologised to passengers and airlines affected by the disruption and said operations were progressively recovering following the implementation of the fix.</p>

<h4><strong>Heathrow Among Airports Hit</strong></h4>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">London Heathrow was among the major airports affected by the outage. Flight information showed cancellations and delays involving several short-haul services to European destinations.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">Stansted and London City airports also reported significant disruption, while airports in Manchester, Birmingham and Scotland warned passengers that schedules could be affected.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">Edinburgh, Luton, Aberdeen and Glasgow were among other airports reporting delays or cancellations.</p>

<p class="isSelectedEnd">EasyJet said some flights could not operate because of the air traffic control disruption, with delays spreading to services across Europe.</p>

<p class="isSelectedEnd">The airline said the disruption was outside its control and that its teams were working with affected passengers to help them reach their destinations as quickly as possible.</p>
