A security scare unfolded in Mumbai on Tuesday after police detained two men at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend the Global Fintech Fest 2026.

Police said one of the detained men allegedly claimed to be an official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He was accompanied by another man who allegedly identified himself as his bodyguard and was carrying a firearm.

The incident triggered a security investigation ahead of the Prime Minister's scheduled appearance at the high-profile event.

Fake PMO Identity Card Found

According to police, the 24-year-old man allegedly used a suspicious government identity card while attempting to gain access to the premises.

He was identified in media reports as Rohan Parekh.

Mumbai Police said three men had allegedly used a suspicious government ID to enter Jio World Plaza, with one of them carrying a firearm. An FIR has been registered in connection with the incident.

The circumstances under which the men obtained access to the complex are now a central part of the investigation.

Licensed Gun Recovered

Police recovered the firearm from the man who allegedly posed as Parekh's bodyguard.

Investigators said the weapon was licensed. However, authorities are examining why the firearm was brought into the premises and how it passed through security arrangements at a venue hosting an event involving the Prime Minister.

The recovery of a licensed weapon does not by itself establish an illegal firearms offence, but its presence in a tightly secured area has prompted further questioning.
