<p>Such incidents do not demonstrate that AI systems have become self-improving superintelligence. They do, however, illustrate why researchers are increasingly focused on the behaviour of AI agents operating with greater autonomy.</p>
<p>The debate is shifting from what AI models can generate in response to a prompt toward what autonomous systems can do when given access to tools, websites, code and external environments.</p>
<h2>Growing Calls for Regulation</h2>
<p>Coxon's resignation also comes as governments and technology experts debate whether existing regulatory systems are capable of dealing with increasingly powerful AI.</p>
