Police immediately registered a case under sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder and rape, as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Investigators suspect the crime was committed by someone known to the victim or her family. "We believe the perpetrator was an acquaintance," said the Rajpur station in-charge. "Several suspects are being detained and questioned intensively. We expect to make progress and resolve the case soon."

Additional police forces have been deployed in the region to maintain order and support the ongoing probe. The victim's family, belonging to a tribal community, has been left devastated by the loss.
