Ishan Kishan Becomes World No.1 T20I Batter, Travis Head Tops Test Rankings

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has climbed to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings, becoming the new world No.1 batter in the shortest format. The latest rankings update saw Kishan overtake fellow Indian opener Abhishek Sharma, who had occupied the top spot for nearly a year.

The achievement makes Kishan only the fourth Indian batter to reach the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings. Before him, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma had attained the milestone.

Kishan’s rise comes on the back of a remarkable run in international cricket, particularly during the recent T20 World Cup. The left-handed batter scored 317 runs in the tournament at a strike rate close to 200, emerging as one of India’s most impactful performers. His match-winning display against Pakistan in Colombo, where he earned the Player of the Match award, proved crucial in boosting his rating points.

According to the latest rankings, Kishan now holds 876 rating points. Abhishek Sharma slips to second place, while Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan occupies third position with 848 rating points.

The development underlines India’s growing dominance in T20 cricket, with multiple Indian batters featuring prominently in the global rankings over the last few years. Kishan’s aggressive approach and consistency across major tournaments have helped him establish himself among the leading players in international white-ball cricket.

There were changes in the bowling rankings as well.

Indian bowlers Varun Chakravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah both slipped one place in the ICC Men’s T20I bowling charts. Chakravarthy dropped to third position, while Bumrah moved down to sixth. Afghanistan star Rashid Khan retained his place at the top of the rankings, continuing his long-standing dominance in the format.

The latest update also brought significant movement in the Test rankings.

Australia’s Travis Head climbed to the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s Test batting rankings after a series of strong performances. England’s Joe Root, who previously held the top spot, slipped to third place following the latest revision.

For India, Test captain Shubman Gill gained one position and moved up to sixth in the batting rankings. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, dropped one place and is now ranked ninth.

Head’s rise reflects his growing importance in Australia’s batting lineup across conditions and formats. The left-hander has been among the most consistent performers in world cricket over the past year and has delivered several crucial innings in high-pressure matches.

In the Test bowling rankings, Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the charts despite his drop in the T20I standings. The Indian pace spearhead remains the No.1 ranked Test bowler in the world and maintains a healthy lead over his closest challengers.

New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry occupies second place with 861 rating points, followed by Australia’s Mitchell Starc in third with 838 points. Australian captain Pat Cummins is fourth on the list with 832 points, while South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen rounds off the top five with 825 rating points.

The latest ICC rankings highlight the continued influence of Indian players across formats, with Kishan’s rise to the top of T20I batting and Bumrah’s sustained dominance in Test bowling providing major positives for Indian cricket ahead of a busy international calendar.

Belgium Stage Dramatic Comeback to Reach World Cup Last 16, USA Advance With 2-0 Victory

Belgium produced one of the most remarkable comebacks of the FIFA World Cup on Thursday, overturning a two-goal deficit in the closing minutes before defeating Senegal 3-2 after extra time to book a place in the Round of 16. The European side will now face hosts United States, who secured a 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina despite playing with 10 men for much of the second half.

At Seattle Stadium, Senegal appeared on course for a famous victory after taking control of the match with goals from Habib Diarra and Ismaila Sarr. With just four minutes of normal time remaining, Belgium were still trailing 2-0 and staring at elimination.

Diarra opened the scoring in the 25th minute, giving Senegal an early advantage. The African side strengthened its position shortly after the break when Sarr collected a long pass from Moussa Niakhaté and finished clinically in the 51st minute. The goal was Sarr’s fourth of the tournament and further underlined his importance to Senegal’s campaign.

Belgium struggled to create clear opportunities for much of the contest, but the introduction of Romelu Lukaku changed the momentum. The veteran striker pulled one back in the 86th minute, igniting hopes of an unlikely recovery.

Just three minutes later, captain Youri Tielemans completed the comeback by firing home the equaliser, sending the match into extra time and silencing Senegal’s celebrations.

As the game moved toward a penalty shootout, controversy unfolded in the closing moments of extra time. In the 125th minute, referee intervention following a video review resulted in a penalty being awarded to Belgium after an incident involving Senegal midfielder Lamine Camara and Tielemans inside the penalty area.

The decision sparked immediate protests from Senegal’s players, who argued that the contact was insufficient for a penalty. Defender Pathé Ciss and several teammates surrounded the referee in frustration, but the decision stood.

Tielemans stepped up under immense pressure and converted the spot-kick, sealing a dramatic 3-2 victory and completing one of the greatest turnarounds of the tournament. The Belgian midfielder was later named Player of the Match for his decisive contribution.

Speaking after the match, Senegal coach Pape Thiaw expressed disappointment with the penalty decision, saying his side did not believe the incident warranted a spot-kick. However, the result confirmed Senegal’s exit from the competition.

Earlier in the day, the United States secured their place in the knockout stage with a disciplined 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.

Folarin Balogun was the standout performer during the opening half. After seeing an earlier effort ruled out for offside, the striker finally broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time. He latched onto a precise through ball from Malik Tillman and calmly finished to hand the hosts a crucial lead before the break.

Balogun nearly doubled the advantage soon after, but his powerful strike crashed against the crossbar.

The match took another turn in the 64th minute when Balogun was shown a red card following a VAR review for a dangerous challenge on Tarik Muharemovic. Reduced to 10 men, the Americans were forced to defend deep while looking for opportunities on the counterattack.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, the hosts remained composed. In the 82nd minute, Tillman effectively sealed victory with a superb free-kick that flew directly into the net. Christian Pulisic had earlier seen a goal disallowed for offside, but the setback did not affect the final outcome.

The results set up an intriguing Round of 16 clash between Belgium and the United States, with both teams carrying momentum into the knockout phase after memorable victories.

England Fight Back in Third Test as Ben Duckett Hits Century Against New Zealand

England mounted an impressive response on Day 2 of the third Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, finishing at 223 for 2 in their first innings after dismissing the visitors for 438 runs. Opener Ben Duckett starred with a rapid century before Joe Root and Jacob Bethell ensured England ended the day in a strong position.

New Zealand resumed their innings after a dominant opening-day performance and were eventually bowled out for 438. The visitors laid the foundation through an outstanding 317-run opening partnership, with captain Tom Latham scoring 151 and Devon Conway contributing 157. Their partnership put England under pressure early in the contest and marked one of New Zealand's best opening stands in Test cricket.

England, however, recovered quickly after an early setback in their reply.

The hosts lost opener Emilio Gay for a duck with just eight runs on the board. Gay faced five deliveries before edging a ball from Will O'Rourke to wicketkeeper Tom Blundell, giving New Zealand the ideal start.

Duckett then transformed the innings with an aggressive counterattack that shifted the momentum back in England's favour.

The left-handed opener reached his seventh Test century in just 88 balls, registering the second-fastest Test hundred by an England batter. The innings followed Duckett's reputation for attacking cricket and came after he had received an early reprieve on eight runs, a chance New Zealand failed to convert.

Duckett eventually fell for 113 off 98 deliveries, striking 18 boundaries before being bowled by Nathan Smith. His innings provided England with the platform they needed after the early loss and significantly reduced the pressure created by New Zealand's imposing first-innings total.

Following Duckett's dismissal, Jacob Bethell continued England's positive approach while showing greater patience. The young batter remained unbeaten on 74, displaying maturity in building the innings alongside experienced campaigner Joe Root, who ended the day unbeaten on 21.

Duckett and Bethell added a crucial 179-run partnership for the second wicket, ensuring England stayed firmly in the contest heading into Day 3.

New Zealand also suffered a setback in the field when fast bowler Blair Tickner was ruled out of the match after experiencing concussion symptoms. Tickner had earlier been struck on the helmet by a delivery from Jofra Archer while batting. Although he briefly returned to the field, he later reported nausea and was withdrawn under concussion protocols.

As a result, Jack Foulds was approved as Tickner's concussion replacement for the remainder of the Test.

Despite conceding a strong partnership, New Zealand still hold a first-innings advantage, while England will look to build on the solid platform provided by Duckett, Root and Bethell. With plenty of batting still to come and conditions remaining favourable, the third day's play is expected to play a decisive role in determining the direction of the Test match.

The 15-year-old batting sensation joined the Indian squad for the Ireland T20I series and expressed his emotions after receiving his maiden Team India jersey.

One of Indian cricket’s most anticipated young talents has taken a major step in his career. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is now on the verge of making his international debut after receiving his first India jersey and departing with the national squad for Ireland.

India's teenage cricket prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has moved a step closer to realizing his dream of representing the country at the highest level. The 15-year-old batter received his first Team India jersey ahead of the upcoming T20I series against Ireland, marking a significant milestone in a remarkable rise that has captured the attention of the cricketing world.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of the emotional moment when Team India throwdown specialist Raghu handed Sooryavanshi his national jersey. The youngster, visibly overwhelmed, described the occasion as the fulfillment of a dream he had carried since picking up a bat for the first time.

Sooryavanshi has already departed for Ireland alongside senior players including Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. With the series set to begin this week, cricket fans are eagerly waiting to see whether the teenager will earn his first international cap.

Emotional First Moment

Speaking after receiving the jersey, Sooryavanshi said he struggled to put the experience into words. According to the youngster, seeing the India jersey for the first time felt surreal and represented the biggest step in a journey that began during his childhood cricket training.

The BCCI video showed Raghu arriving at his room with the jersey package. After respectfully greeting him, Sooryavanshi carefully opened the box and held the jersey in his hands, smiling as he absorbed the significance of the moment.

The footage quickly gained traction on social media, with fans and former cricketers congratulating the teenager on reaching another landmark in his career.

Ireland Tour Begins

Soon after joining the squad, Sooryavanshi was seen travelling with the Indian team to Ireland. A selfie featuring the young batter alongside Abhishek Sharma and members of the support staff went viral online.

Many fans highlighted the possibility of an explosive opening partnership between Sharma and Sooryavanshi. Both players are known for their aggressive batting approach and ability to dominate bowlers from the very first over.

If selected for the opening match, Sooryavanshi could become one of the youngest players ever to represent India at the international level.

Meteoric Rise in Cricket

Over the past year, Sooryavanshi has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket. His performances across domestic tournaments, age-group cricket and franchise competitions have consistently strengthened his case for national selection.

The teenager attracted widespread attention after becoming the youngest centurion in IPL history. He followed that achievement with strong performances in domestic competitions, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

His breakthrough season reached another level during IPL 2026, where he scored 776 runs and finished as the tournament's leading run-scorer, outperforming established stars such as Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul.

The youngster also impressed in the recent tri-series final against Sri Lanka A, producing a match-winning knock of 94 under pressure.

The high-profile trade marks a significant squad reshuffle for both franchises after a disappointing season for Lucknow Super Giants and a strategic rebuild by Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have completed one of the most talked-about trades in recent IPL history, with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant returning to his former franchise and spinner Kuldeep Yadav moving in the opposite direction. The deal comes after Pant's difficult stint with Lucknow and signals a major change in plans for both teams ahead of the next IPL season.

Pant, who spent nine seasons with Delhi Capitals between 2016 and 2024, is set to wear the franchise's colours once again. The left-handed batter had become the most expensive player in IPL history when Lucknow acquired him for ₹27 crore during the 2025 mega auction. However, his performances as both captain and batter failed to meet expectations, leading to speculation about his future with the franchise.

Reports indicate that Pant agreed to a substantial reduction in salary to facilitate the move. His new contract value is expected to be around ₹15 crore, making the transfer financially viable for Delhi Capitals.

The development is being viewed as one of the most significant post-IPL 2026 transactions, with both franchises attempting to reshape their squads after mixed performances in recent seasons.

Pant's Homecoming

Rishabh Pant's return brings familiarity and experience back to the Delhi setup. During his first spell with the franchise, he established himself as one of the league's most explosive batters and emerged as a key figure in the team's leadership group.

Pant represented Delhi Capitals in 111 IPL matches before parting ways with the franchise ahead of the 2025 mega auction. His departure was reportedly linked to differences over future plans, but the latest move suggests both sides have found common ground.

Despite returning to Delhi, reports suggest the franchise is unlikely to hand him the captaincy immediately. Team management is expected to evaluate leadership options separately while focusing on Pant's role as a senior player and match-winner.

Kuldeep Heads to Lucknow

As part of the trade, Kuldeep Yadav's successful five-year association with Delhi Capitals has come to an end. The left-arm wrist spinner joined Delhi in 2022 and became one of the team's most reliable bowlers, taking 72 wickets in 65 matches.

The move represents a homecoming of sorts for Kuldeep, who has strong ties to Uttar Pradesh cricket. Lucknow believe his experience and wicket-taking ability can strengthen a bowling attack that struggled for consistency during IPL 2026.

According to franchise sources, Kuldeep's arrival is expected to play a central role in LSG's rebuilding plans following a disappointing campaign.

Leadership and Future Plans

Pant's exit from Lucknow appeared increasingly likely after he stepped down from the team's captaincy. Under his leadership, LSG managed only 10 wins in 28 matches across two seasons and finished 10th in IPL 2026 after ending seventh in 2025.

His batting form also came under scrutiny, with the wicketkeeper-batter scoring just 312 runs during the 2026 season. The franchise's management subsequently began exploring options to restructure the squad.

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal publicly thanked Kuldeep Yadav for his contribution to the franchise and welcomed Pant back, expressing confidence in the batter's ability to rediscover his best form.

With the IPL transfer window still active, the Pant-Kuldeep exchange could influence further player movements across franchises. Analysts believe the deal has the potential to reshape the balance of both teams as preparations begin for the next IPL season.

FIFA World Cup 2026 Points Table: England and Colombia Take Early Lead in Group Standings

The race for the knockout stage is beginning to take shape as teams battle for crucial points in the group stage. Strong starts from England and Colombia have put both sides in commanding positions in their respective groups.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 group stage delivered another exciting round of action on June 17, with England and Colombia registering convincing victories to move to the top of their groups. England defeated Croatia 4-2 in a high-scoring Group L encounter, while Colombia opened their campaign with a 3-1 win over World Cup debutants Uzbekistan in Group K.

With the tournament expanded to 48 teams for the first time, every result carries added significance. The top two teams from each of the 12 groups, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will qualify for the Round of 32. As a result, early victories can provide a crucial advantage in the race for qualification.

England, Colombia, Argentina, Germany, Mexico and several other contenders have made positive starts to their campaigns. However, traditional powerhouses such as Portugal, Spain and Brazil have already dropped points, adding further intrigue to the tournament.

England and Colombia Make Strong Statements

England produced one of the most impressive performances of the tournament so far by defeating Croatia 4-2 in Group L. Captain Harry Kane led from the front with two goals, while Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford also found the net.

The victory not only earned England three valuable points but also strengthened their goal difference, which could prove decisive later in the group stage. Croatia, meanwhile, will need a strong response in their upcoming fixtures to keep their qualification hopes alive.

In Group K, Colombia enjoyed a comfortable 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan. Goals from Daniel Munoz, Luis Diaz and Jaminton Campaz ensured a winning start and placed the South American side at the top of the group standings.

The same group also witnessed a surprise result as Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo. Despite featuring veteran star Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal failed to secure all three points, while DR Congo celebrated a historic result in their World Cup campaign.

Tight Competition Across Several Groups

Group A is currently led by Mexico and South Korea, both of whom secured victories in their opening matches. Group B remains completely open after both fixtures ended in draws, leaving all four teams level on points.

In Group C, Scotland moved to the top after defeating Haiti, while Brazil and Morocco shared the points in a hard-fought draw. The United States and Australia lead Group D following impressive opening victories.

Group E saw Germany produce a dominant display, thrashing Curaçao 7-1 to register the biggest win of the tournament so far. Ivory Coast also began their campaign with a narrow but important victory over Ecuador.

Sweden lead Group F after a convincing win over Tunisia, while Japan and the Netherlands played out a draw. Groups G and H remain evenly balanced, with all teams level on points after their opening fixtures ended without winners.

Qualification Battle Intensifies

The expanded World Cup format means that teams finishing third in their groups still have a realistic chance of progressing. Consequently, every point earned during the group stage could have a major impact on qualification scenarios.

Reports suggest that upcoming fixtures such as England vs Ghana, Portugal vs Uzbekistan, and Argentina vs Austria could significantly influence the standings. Teams that secure consecutive victories will move closer to the knockout rounds, while those dropping points may find themselves under increasing pressure.

As the tournament progresses, the FIFA World Cup 2026 Points Table is expected to change rapidly, making every match crucial in the quest for football's biggest prize.

Austria marked their return to the FIFA World Cup after a 28-year absence with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over tournament debutants Jordan in a lively Group J encounter, thanks largely to veteran striker Marko Arnautovic's influential second-half display.

Played on a chilly evening in the San Francisco Bay Area, the match proved far more competitive than many had anticipated, with Jordan pushing Austria throughout and threatening to pull off a surprise result on the global stage.

Austria took the lead in the 21st minute through Romano Schmid, who unleashed a powerful long-range strike that flew into the top corner. The goal rewarded Austria's growing control after an energetic start from Jordan, who had created the first real opening of the game when captain Ehsan Haddad fired into the side netting following a quick counter-attack.

While Austria enjoyed the majority of possession and dictated much of the tempo, Jordan remained dangerous on the break. The pace and movement of Ali Olwan and Musa Al-Taamari repeatedly tested the Austrian defence and ensured the contest remained open.

Jordan's persistence paid off shortly after the restart. Five minutes into the second half, Olwan surged down the left flank before producing a clinical finish that struck the far post and bounced in, bringing the scores level and sparking celebrations among the Jordanian supporters.

The equaliser shifted momentum and briefly put Austria under pressure. Seeking greater attacking urgency, the Austrian coaching staff introduced experienced forward Marko Arnautovic at half-time, a move that ultimately proved decisive.

The 37-year-old thought he had restored Austria's lead in the 69th minute when he bundled home from close range. However, the goal was disallowed after a VAR review detected a handball by defender Stefan Posch during the build-up.

Austria continued to press and finally regained the advantage in the 76th minute. A dangerous corner delivered by Marcel Sabitzer caused confusion inside the Jordan penalty area, with defender Yazan Al-Arab inadvertently turning the ball into his own net under pressure.

Jordan refused to back down and continued searching for another equaliser, but Austria held firm. Deep into stoppage time, Arnautovic sealed the result from the penalty spot after Austria were awarded a late spot-kick, ensuring the scoreline reflected their territorial dominance.

Austria finished with 62 percent possession and registered more attempts on goal, although Jordan created several dangerous moments and managed four shots on target compared to Austria's two.

Speaking after the match, Austria midfielder Konrad Laimer acknowledged the challenge posed by their opponents. He said the team had expected a difficult contest and credited Austria's mentality for helping them secure all three points despite periods where their performance dipped.

For Jordan, the result was disappointing but far from discouraging. Making their first appearance at a FIFA World Cup, the Asian side demonstrated resilience, organisation and attacking intent against more experienced opposition.

Goal-scorer Ali Olwan said his side did not deserve to lose and expressed confidence that Jordan could still progress from the group stage. With two matches remaining, Jordan remain hopeful of making further history at the tournament.

The victory gives Austria an important start in Group J and boosts confidence ahead of tougher challenges to come. For Jordan, despite the defeat, the performance offered plenty of encouragement as they continue their maiden World Cup journey.

Magnus Carlsen Admits ‘Shocking’ Errors After Norway Chess 2026 Setback

World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen reflects on a difficult Norway Chess campaign, saying recent defeats exposed gaps in his evaluations and proved he still has plenty to learn.

The disappointing performance of Magnus Carlsen at Norway Chess 2026 has become one of the biggest talking points in the chess world. The former world champion, who has dominated international chess for over a decade, openly admitted that he made several “shocking” mistakes during the tournament and was surprised by how often he misjudged positions on the board.

World No. 1 Carlsen finished fourth in the six-player field at Norway Chess 2026, suffering four Classical defeats in ten rounds. The tournament was eventually won by Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa, who defeated Carlsen twice and emerged as the standout performer of the event.

Difficult Tournament for Carlsen

Entering the competition as the overwhelming favorite, Carlsen was expected to claim a record-extending eighth Norway Chess title. However, the 35-year-old struggled to maintain consistency and endured one of his toughest performances in recent years.

His campaign included back-to-back losses against Praggnanandhaa, a result that surprised many chess observers. The tournament outcome has also sparked discussions about Carlsen’s future in Classical chess, a format in which he has reduced his participation since stepping away from the World Championship cycle.

Speaking ahead of the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships in Hong Kong, Carlsen reflected on his recent performances and the lessons he learned from them.

Learning From Mistakes

Carlsen said his primary motivation remains his love for chess and the challenge of improving his understanding of the game.

According to his remarks, the most surprising aspect of recent tournaments was not the mistakes themselves but the number of times he incorrectly evaluated positions. He described this realization as “shocking” but also valuable because it highlighted how much more there is to learn, even after years at the top level.

The Norwegian Grandmaster noted that many games moved away from well-known opening theory early, leading to complex situations where accurate judgment became crucial. Those experiences, he said, broadened his perspective on the game and reinforced the importance of continuous learning.

Future Plans Remain Open

Despite the disappointing result in Stavanger, Carlsen made it clear that retirement is not currently on his mind.

The five-time Classical World Champion has gradually shifted his focus toward rapid and blitz formats in recent years, while selectively participating in Classical tournaments. Before Norway Chess, he also competed in the Tepe Sigeman & Co Tournament in Sweden, where he emerged victorious after defeating India's Arjun Erigaisi in tiebreaks.

Carlsen acknowledged that he may not continue playing as actively forever, but emphasized that he still enjoys competing and has no fixed timeline for stepping away from professional chess.

His comments come at a time when younger stars such as Praggnanandhaa, D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and Germany’s Vincent Keymer are increasingly challenging the established order in world chess.

Carlsen now turns his attention to the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships in Hong Kong, where he will represent the WR Chess team. The event offers him an immediate opportunity to bounce back from the disappointment of Norway Chess.

While his recent struggles have generated debate about his future in Classical chess, Carlsen’s willingness to acknowledge mistakes and continue learning demonstrates why he remains one of the most respected figures in the sport. For chess fans, the coming months will provide a clearer indication of whether the Norway Chess result was merely a temporary setback or the beginning of a new phase in the legendary Grandmaster’s career.

IND-W vs NED-W: India Women Eye Top Spot as Netherlands Challenge Awaits in T20 World Cup

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India seek second consecutive win while Netherlands look for a breakthrough victory in Group 1

The Indian women's cricket team will aim to strengthen its position in Group 1 of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 when it faces the Netherlands at Headingley in Leeds on Wednesday. Coming off a convincing victory against Pakistan in their tournament opener, India enters the contest with confidence and an opportunity to move to the top of the group standings.

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India made a strong statement in their first match with an all-round performance. The victory not only boosted the team's net run rate but also reinforced India's status as one of the tournament favorites. A win against the Netherlands would place the Women in Blue in a commanding position as the race for the semi-finals begins to intensify.

For the Netherlands, the match represents another chance to make an impact on the global stage. Despite suffering a defeat against Bangladesh in their debut appearance at the Women's T20 World Cup, the Dutch side showed resilience and competitiveness that could trouble higher-ranked teams.

India Look to Build Momentum

India's batting lineup remains one of the strongest in the competition. Experienced opener Smriti Mandhana continues to be a key figure at the top of the order and is expected to play a crucial role in setting the platform.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh and middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues add depth and stability to the batting unit. The team's ability to accelerate during the latter stages of the innings remains one of its biggest strengths.

In the bowling department, Deepti Sharma arrives in excellent form after her impressive five-wicket haul against Pakistan. Her ability to control the middle overs while taking crucial wickets makes her one of India's most valuable players.

Dutch Team Seeking Upset

The Netherlands may enter the match as underdogs, but the side possesses several players capable of producing match-winning performances. Batter Sterre Kalis remains the backbone of the Dutch batting lineup and will carry much of the responsibility in the top order.

Captain Babette de Leede will also be expected to lead from the front as the Netherlands look to challenge a stronger Indian side. The team showed glimpses of promise in its opening game and will aim to convert those positives into a more complete performance.

With the ball, Iris Zwilling remains a key weapon. Her ability to bowl economically and take wickets could prove important if the Dutch side hopes to restrict India's powerful batting lineup.

Historic First Meeting

Wednesday's encounter will mark the first-ever Women's T20 International between India and the Netherlands. Although the two nations have faced each other three times in Women's One-Day Internationals, all those meetings came more than two decades ago, with India winning each contest.

The historic nature of the fixture adds another layer of interest as the teams prepare to write a new chapter in their international rivalry.

Conditions at Headingley

The Headingley surface is expected to offer assistance to fast bowlers during the early stages of the match, with swing and seam movement likely under cloudy conditions. As the game progresses, spinners could come into play as the pitch slows down.

Teams batting first have generally enjoyed success at the venue, making the toss an important factor. Captains may prefer to put runs on the board and apply scoreboard pressure.

Weather forecasts indicate mild temperatures ranging between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius. While some cloud cover is expected, only a slight chance of rain has been predicted.

IND vs AFG 2nd ODI: India Eye Series Victory as Afghanistan Seek Fightback in Lucknow

Shubman Gill targets maiden ODI series triumph as captain while Afghanistan look to level the contest at Ekana Stadium

India will look to seal the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan when the two teams meet in the second One-Day International at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday. Having secured a comfortable victory in the series opener, the hosts enter the contest with momentum on their side and the opportunity to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.

The match also presents a significant milestone for captain Shubman Gill, who is aiming to register his first ODI series win since taking over the leadership role. Gill led from the front in the opening game, producing an unbeaten 84-run knock that guided India to a convincing seven-wicket victory in Dharamshala.

India's young bowling attack also impressed, with debutants Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey claiming three wickets each to restrict Afghanistan and underline the depth of talent available to the team management.

Gill's India Look to Continue Momentum

India's dominant performance in the first ODI has given the team management the flexibility to experiment with combinations. The captain recently indicated that opportunities could be provided to players waiting on the sidelines as the team continues to assess options ahead of future international assignments.

Players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kuldeep Yadav could come into contention for selection as India seek to balance winning the series with building squad depth.

Gill remains the centerpiece of India's batting unit. Fresh from a successful IPL season and carrying excellent form into the series, the right-hander will once again be expected to anchor the innings.

The Indian bowling unit, despite the absence of senior stars, showed discipline and composure in the first match. Another strong showing could strengthen their claims for a more regular place in the national setup.

Afghanistan Seek Stronger Team Performance

Afghanistan enter the second ODI under pressure but not without positives. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz delivered one of the standout performances of the series opener, scoring a brilliant century and becoming the fastest Afghan batter to register an ODI hundred against India.

However, the visitors struggled to find support around him as wickets fell regularly at the other end. Afghanistan's batting lineup will need greater contributions from the middle order if they hope to challenge India in Lucknow.

The bowling department also has room for improvement. Spin spearhead Rashid Khan remains Afghanistan's biggest threat and will be crucial on a surface expected to assist slower bowlers.

With conditions likely to suit spin, Afghanistan will be hoping their experienced attack can put greater pressure on India's batting lineup and force the series into a decider.

Key Battles to Watch

One of the most anticipated contests will be between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and India's pace attack. Gurbaz looked in excellent touch in the opening match and will again be Afghanistan's primary source of runs at the top of the order.

Another intriguing battle involves Rashid Khan against India's experienced batters. The leg-spinner has often troubled top-order players around the world and could play a decisive role if the pitch offers turn.

India, meanwhile, will rely on their in-form captain and young bowling group to maintain control and close out the series.

Pitch and Weather Conditions

The Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow has traditionally offered assistance to spin bowlers, particularly as the match progresses. The average first-innings score at the venue remains relatively modest, suggesting that batting could become challenging if conditions slow down.

Teams winning the toss may consider batting first and putting scoreboard pressure on the opposition.

Weather conditions are expected to remain clear throughout the day, with no significant threat of rain. A full match is anticipated, providing ideal conditions for a crucial contest in the series.

RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Final Becomes Most-Watched Ever

RCB beat GT in the IPL 2026 final to win back-to-back titles, as the season set a viewership record with 87,000 crore minutes of watch time.

The IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans has gone down as the most-watched match in the tournament's history, capping off what officials are calling a record-breaking season on the broadcast front as well as on the field. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, led by Rajat Patidar, lifted the trophy after beating Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31, becoming only the third franchise after Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians to win back-to-back IPL titles.

RCB Wins Back-To-Back Crown

The final itself turned out to be fairly one-sided. Gujarat Titans, captained by Shubman Gill, batted first and were restricted to 155 for 8. RCB chased the target down comfortably inside 18 overs, with Virat Kohli, who has featured in every IPL season since the league's inception, hitting the winning six to seal the title for his side.

Record Viewership Numbers

According to a release issued by broadcaster JioStar, the final alone reached across 400 million, or 40 crore, screens, making it the most-watched single match in the competition's run so far. The season overall recorded a watch time of 870 billion minutes, translating to roughly 87,000 crore minutes, a figure JioStar described as a season-high benchmark for the tournament.

JioStar Reports Growth Numbers

The broadcaster's statement said the IPL 2026 season pushed overall reach past 1.2 billion, marking a 7 percent rise compared with the previous year. JioStar attributed part of the growth to new storylines and standout individual performances through the season that kept audiences engaged, noting separately that watch time touched 870 billion minutes across the competition.

CEO Hails Platform Integration

JioStar CEO Ishan Chatterjee, commenting on the numbers, said the broadcaster had worked through the season to build what it sees as a genuinely integrated sports platform, where fans were not just watching matches but engaging with content in more personalised ways. He said connected TV viewing and regional-language coverage had turned into significant drivers of growth this season, adding that the results reflected efforts across the platform and would not have been possible without every screen, every interaction, and every moment meaningful for viewers, alongside what he termed the BCCI's steady partnership through the season.

Sooryavanshi Sweeps Top Awards

On the individual honours front, teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a standout season, sweeping nearly every major batting award on offer. The 15-year-old finished with 776 runs to claim the Orange Cap, becoming the youngest player to do so in IPL history. He was also named Most Valuable Player and Emerging Player of the Season, besides picking up awards for the most sixes, with a tournament-record 72, and the highest strike rate of the season.

Other Award Winners Named

Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan was recognised for hitting the most fours through the season, while his teammate Kagiso Rabada claimed the Purple Cap after finishing with 29 wickets, the highest tally among bowlers in IPL 2026. Together, the individual honours rounded off a season that organisers and the broadcaster both described as one of the most competitive editions of the tournament in recent years.

With RCB's second straight title and the IPL's viewership numbers setting fresh benchmarks, attention will now shift to whether the franchise can extend its dominance into the next edition, even as broadcasters look to build on this season's reach heading into IPL 2027.

Trump May Present FIFA World Cup Trophy to Winners

Donald Trump could hand over the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winning team if FIFA permits, while Tunisia changes coach and Neymar remains sidelined.

United States President Donald Trump could play a prominent role during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final trophy presentation, with reports indicating that FIFA may permit him to personally hand over the trophy to the tournament winners if he chooses to do so.

The possibility has sparked discussion among football fans and observers because it would differ from the customary World Cup presentation procedure followed in previous editions of the tournament.

Traditional Trophy Protocol

Under standard FIFA World Cup protocol, the trophy is usually placed on a designated plinth near the presentation area after the final. Members of the winning team then receive the trophy before carrying it onto the celebration podium, where official photographs and victory celebrations take place.

However, sources familiar with the planning process suggest FIFA is unlikely to object if Trump decides to personally present the trophy and remain on stage during the celebrations.

While no official confirmation has been issued regarding the final ceremony format, the reports have fuelled speculation about a potentially unprecedented moment at football's biggest event.

Club World Cup Precedent

The discussion stems largely from Trump's appearance during the recent FIFA Club World Cup trophy presentation.

After the final, Trump handed the trophy to players of Chelsea FC and remained on stage as captain Reece James lifted the trophy alongside teammates.

The moment attracted widespread attention and led to questions about whether a similar role could be envisioned for the World Cup final next year.

Trump was unable to attend the United States men's national team's opening match against Paraguay due to scheduling commitments but is expected to be present at the World Cup final scheduled at MetLife Stadium on July 19.

Tunisia Makes Coaching Change

In a separate World Cup development, Tunisia has become the first team to change its head coach during the tournament.

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi was relieved of his duties following the team's 5-1 defeat against Sweden.

Reports indicate the decision was influenced not only by the heavy loss but also by concerns over internal team dynamics and dressing-room issues. Lamouchi's tenure lasted just five matches.

Former national team coach Mondher Kebaier is reportedly being considered as an interim replacement.

Tunisia still faces crucial group-stage fixtures against Japan and Netherlands as it attempts to remain competitive in the tournament.

Neymar Recovery Monitored

Meanwhile, concerns remain over the fitness of Brazilian star Neymar ahead of the latter stages of the competition.

According to reports, Brazil's medical staff are taking a cautious approach as the forward continues to recover from a Grade-2 calf injury suffered while playing for Santos FC in May.

The management is reportedly prioritising Neymar's availability for the knockout rounds rather than rushing him back during the group stage.

Focus on Knockout Stage

Neymar missed Brazil's opening match and is also expected to sit out the upcoming fixture against Haiti. While the 32-year-old has increased the intensity of his gym sessions, he has yet to resume full on-field training with the squad.

Brazilian officials believe a cautious recovery plan will reduce the risk of aggravating the injury and maximise the player's chances of contributing later in the tournament.

With major storylines emerging both on and off the field, attention now turns to the coming weeks as teams battle for qualification and organisers prepare for what could be one of the most closely watched FIFA World Cup finals in recent history.
