Political and administrative activity is set to intensify in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, July 19, as Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav chairs a key Cabinet meeting at the historic town of Jagdishpur in Bhopal district. The meeting comes just a day before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly and is expected to clear several important legislative and policy proposals.

Alongside the Cabinet meeting, the state government will transfer ₹1,460.25 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) directly into the bank accounts of 10.54 lakh farmers through a single-click digital transfer. The government will transfer ₹1,460.25 crore directly to 10.54 lakh eligible farmers affected by crop losses. According to the state government, more than ₹30,000 crore in insurance claims has already been distributed to farmers in Madhya Pradesh under the scheme since its implementation.

The initiative aims to provide financial support to farmers affected by natural disasters and adverse weather conditions while ensuring faster direct benefit transfers.

Further Official Engagements

After completing the Jagdishpur programme, the Chief Minister will virtually participate in the Balram Krishi Mahotsav being held in Jhabua at around 2:45 PM through video conferencing.

The fourth edition of the Meghalaya Pineapple Fest 2026 began at Dilli Haat in New Delhi on July 10, bringing together farmers, entrepreneurs, policymakers and visitors to celebrate one of Meghalaya's most celebrated agricultural products. The three-day festival, which continues until July 12, aims to promote the state's premium pineapples, strengthen market linkages and highlight the rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya.

The inaugural programme was attended by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia as the Chief Guest, while Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma participated as the Guest of Honour.

Three-Day Festival

Running from July 10 to July 12 between 11:00 AM and 9:00 PM at Dilli Haat, the festival features product exhibitions, interactive sessions, cultural performances and business engagements aimed at promoting Meghalaya as a leading producer of high-quality pineapples.

Officials said the initiative supports the government's broader objective of improving farmers' incomes by creating stronger market linkages and increasing consumer awareness about the state's premium horticultural products.

The Meghalaya Pineapple Fest has emerged as one of the state's flagship promotional events, helping connect producers with buyers while celebrating the region's agricultural excellence and cultural identity.

According to the government, the vessels are transporting fertilisers and critical raw materials under scheduled delivery plans, ensuring uninterrupted supplies to India. Officials said the arrival of these shipments at Indian ports will substantially improve domestic stock levels and support the country’s agricultural requirements.

The government highlighted that despite challenges to maritime traffic in the Hormuz Strait during the recent regional conflict, coordinated planning, continuous monitoring and timely interventions helped maintain the flow of essential fertiliser imports. Authorities also expanded procurement efforts by securing supplies from multiple countries, further reinforcing India’s fertiliser supply network.

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers J.P. Nadda said global supply chains faced severe disruptions due to the conflict in West Asia, leading to rising fertiliser prices and longer delivery timelines worldwide. He noted that India was not immune to these challenges but managed to address potential shortages through proactive measures and strategic planning under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The government also credited India’s diplomatic network for supporting supply diversification efforts. As many as 28 Indian missions abroad, including embassies and high commissions, worked closely with potential producers and suppliers to facilitate timely fertiliser availability.

For urea imports, India secured arrangements with countries including Oman, Malaysia, Vietnam, Georgia, Nigeria, Russia, Finland, Egypt, Algeria, Türkiye and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, supplies of DAP and NPK fertilisers were coordinated through the Red Sea route from Russia, Morocco, Egypt, the United States, Jordan, South Korea, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

Officials said the 15 ships currently en route or arriving in India include eight vessels carrying 3.32 lakh metric tonnes of urea, four ships transporting 2.57 lakh metric tonnes of DAP and three vessels carrying 1.11 lakh metric tonnes of sulphur. In addition, five more ships have been scheduled for India. These include consignments of ammonia, urea and sulphur that are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

Alongside imports, domestic fertiliser production has also recorded strong growth. The availability of natural gas for fertiliser plants, which had temporarily declined to around 65 per cent, has now returned to full capacity. As a result, all urea manufacturing units across the country are operating at maximum production levels.

Government data showed that urea production exceeded targets in each of the first three months of the 2026-27 financial year. During the April-June quarter, total urea production reached 71.55 lakh metric tonnes against a target of 67.86 lakh metric tonnes, surpassing the goal by 3.69 lakh metric tonnes.

DAP production also outperformed expectations during the quarter. Total output stood at 9.84 lakh metric tonnes compared to the target of 8.61 lakh metric tonnes, registering an excess production of 1.23 lakh metric tonnes. Domestic production of NPK fertilisers reached 20.77 lakh metric tonnes, while SSP output stood at 13.50 lakh metric tonnes during the same period.

The combined impact of increased imports and higher domestic production has helped maintain adequate fertiliser availability across the country. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, India has already secured 197.56 lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser stocks against an estimated annual requirement of 383.9 lakh metric tonnes, representing more than 51 per cent of projected demand.

Officials said the current inventory position is expected to ensure smooth fertiliser availability for farmers and support agricultural activities throughout the upcoming crop seasons.

A series of awareness and outreach activities are being organised across Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district as part of the National Cooperation Week, with the week-long campaign set to conclude on July 6 with a closing ceremony promoting the use of alternative fertilisers and strengthening cooperative institutions.

According to the district administration, the programme is being conducted through various Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies (PACS) to raise awareness about the role of cooperatives in rural development, agricultural growth and farmers' welfare.

The week-long campaign began on June 30 with a meeting of the District Cooperative Development Committee, where discussions focused on the role of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and cooperative societies in enhancing farmers' income.

On July 1, demonstrations on the use of drones for spraying liquid fertilisers were organised along with awareness sessions on crop companions and soil health management. Farmers were also introduced to modern agricultural practices aimed at improving productivity.

As part of the campaign, farmers visited model cooperative societies on July 2 to gain practical knowledge of successful cooperative operations. Cooperative societies also distributed Micro ATMs, Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) and RuPay KCC cards to eligible beneficiaries to improve financial inclusion in rural areas.

Activities on July 3 included plantation drives and cleanliness campaigns, while awareness was also created through the circulation of the monthly publication 'Sahkari Samachar' issued by the Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Union.

On July 4, health camps were organised at Jan Aushadhi Kendras operated by cooperative societies. Educational institutions also participated in the campaign through essay writing, painting and quiz competitions on the theme of cooperation on July 5, encouraging students to understand the importance of the cooperative movement.

The week-long programme will conclude on July 6 with a seminar on the use of alternative fertilisers, followed by a grand closing ceremony. Officials said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the spirit of cooperation among farmers and rural communities while promoting self-reliance through cooperative institutions.

The district administration believes the campaign will help increase public awareness about cooperative schemes, encourage greater participation in cooperative societies and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. Officials have also appealed to members of the Cooperation Department and the public to participate in large numbers in the concluding event.

A week-long awareness programme under Cooperation Week (Sahkarita Saptah) is underway in Tamta, with the objective of strengthening cooperative institutions and promoting greater awareness among farmers about the benefits of the cooperative movement. The campaign will continue until July 6.

The programme was inaugurated at the Paddy Procurement Centre, Tamta, under the supervision of the Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Society (PACS). The event witnessed the participation of farmers, public representatives and members of the cooperative society.

The inauguration was marked by the hoisting of the cooperative flag by chief guest and Farmers' Committee President Ravishankar Paikra, who called upon farmers to actively participate in cooperative activities for the collective development of the agricultural sector.

Addressing the gathering, Paikra said cooperative institutions form the backbone of the rural economy by ensuring the timely availability of seeds, fertilisers, agricultural loans and other essential services to farmers. He stressed the need to make cooperative societies more transparent, accountable and efficient so that they can better serve farming communities.

Participants at the event took a pledge to uphold the principles of cooperation and work collectively for the welfare of farmers. Officials also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperative institutions to improve agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods.

A series of awareness programmes, discussions and outreach activities have been planned throughout the week to educate members and farmers about cooperative governance, financial discipline, transparency and the various schemes available through cooperative societies.

The organisers said the campaign is aimed at increasing public participation in the cooperative movement while encouraging institutions to adopt best practices in governance and service delivery. Officials expressed confidence that the initiative would further strengthen the cooperative network and benefit farmers across the region.

The concluding programme on July 6 is expected to witness participation from cooperative representatives, government officials and local farmers, reaffirming the commitment to building stronger and more effective cooperative institutions.

Pre-monsoon activity continued across Madhya Pradesh on Monday, bringing rain to several districts including Bhopal, Ujjain, Raisen and Dhar, while weather officials warned of thunderstorms and showers across large parts of the state over the next few days.

A tragic incident was reported from Chhatarpur district, where a 12-year-old girl died after being struck by lightning. The victim, identified as Aarti Ahirwar, was standing under a mango tree near a field along with her cousin sister in Maharajganj village of Badamalhara tehsil when lightning struck the area. While Aarti died in the incident, her cousin sustained burn injuries and was admitted to a district hospital for treatment.

The weather department has forecast strong winds of up to 60 kmph along with rain in districts including Indore, Dewas, Dhar, Sehore, Shajapur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Balaghat, Mandla and Jabalpur. Similar weather conditions are expected in several tourist and religious destinations, including Bhimbetka, Sanchi, Maheshwar, Omkareshwar, Pachmarhi, Chitrakoot, Bandhavgarh and Amarkantak.

Heavy rainfall activity was recorded in several parts of the state on Sunday and Monday. Raisen received 61 mm of rainfall, equivalent to nearly 2.5 inches, while Bhopal witnessed intense showers during the afternoon. Satna recorded significant rainfall, and showers were also reported from Jabalpur, Khajuraho, Naugaon and Seoni.

The rainfall led to a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures. Among the state's major cities, Bhopal recorded a maximum temperature of 35.3 degrees Celsius, Indore 37.1 degrees, Ujjain 36 degrees and Jabalpur 38 degrees. Datia remained the hottest district with a temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius, while Pachmarhi was the coolest at 32.2 degrees.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department said the southwest monsoon has advanced into parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar as of June 22. The system is expected to progress further over the next 48 hours.

Despite the advancement in neighbouring states, the monsoon is yet to enter Madhya Pradesh and is currently running behind schedule. Normally, the monsoon reaches the state around June 15. This year, however, it has been delayed by nearly a week. Weather experts expect the monsoon to enter Madhya Pradesh after June 25 if favourable conditions persist.

The delay has significantly affected seasonal rainfall figures. The state has recorded 48 per cent less rainfall than normal so far this month. Eastern Madhya Pradesh, including the divisions of Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol and Sagar, has received 69 per cent less rainfall than average. Western divisions, including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior and Narmadapuram, are also reporting a rainfall deficit.

The delayed monsoon has become a growing concern for farmers preparing for the kharif season. Sowing of crops such as soybean, urad, moong and tur has been affected due to insufficient soil moisture. Agricultural experts say at least four inches of rainfall is required before large-scale sowing can begin safely.

In some districts, farmers who sowed soybean seeds anticipating an early monsoon are now facing the risk of seed damage due to inadequate rainfall. Experts have advised growers to wait for sustained rainfall before proceeding with sowing operations.

With rain-bearing systems becoming more active and cloud cover increasing over central India, meteorologists remain optimistic that weather conditions could improve over the coming week.

Heavy pre-monsoon rain in Shahdol brought respite from soaring temperatures, but widespread waterlogging highlighted shortcomings in the city's drainage system.

Shahdol witnessed a significant weather change on Tuesday afternoon as heavy rain accompanied by strong winds brought much-needed relief from intense heat and humidity across the district. The downpour, which lasted for nearly half an hour in several areas, led to a noticeable drop in temperature and improved weather conditions after days of uncomfortable summer heat.

Residents across the district welcomed the rainfall, which arrived amid rising temperatures and persistent humidity. The showers cooled the atmosphere and offered temporary respite to people who had been struggling with oppressive weather conditions over the past few weeks.

Relief From Summer Heat

The sudden spell of rain transformed weather conditions across Shahdol and surrounding areas. Streets that had been baking under high temperatures earlier in the day experienced cooler conditions by late afternoon as clouds and rain dominated the skyline.

Local residents reported a sharp improvement in comfort levels after the rainfall. Strong winds preceding the showers further helped bring down temperatures, making outdoor conditions significantly more pleasant.

Instead of heading to the local helipad, the CM landed right in the middle of grain traders and waiting farmers, catching the administration completely off guard.

A sharp detour

Transparency in weighing, payments

The Chief Minister was firm on one point: the entire chain—from online slot booking to the final weight reading—must remain transparent. He noted that the state has already increased the number of weighing scales at the centre from four to six, warning that more would be added if bottlenecks remain.

Farmers at Katargaon had earlier complained about delays in the queue system, though no major protests have been reported from this district so far. The CM assured the gathering that the government would honour the full procurement price of ₹2,625 per quintal, inclusive of the announced bonus.

A warning to district officials

Before leaving, Yadav made his stance public. He stated that procurement centres across the state should remain on high alert, as he could conduct similar surprise inspections in any district without prior notice. “The administration should not wait for an intimation. Be ready every day,” he was heard telling senior officials.

Following the CM’s nudge, district authorities have initiated a quick internal review of queue management and payment reconciliation at all major centres in Maheshwar and surrounding blocks. On manufacturing, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has attracted huge investments, boosting India’s share in global exports and attracting approximately $750 billion in Foreign Direct Investment over the last decade.

Looking ahead, the President highlighted India’s push into new technologies like semiconductor manufacturing, with 10 units expected soon, and the National Critical Mineral Mission to ensure self-reliance. However, she also issued a caution on Artificial Intelligence, warning of deepfakes and misinformation as threats to social harmony.
