The arrest has triggered alarm over possible anti-national activities in the region.

The accused has been identified as Sevak Singh, a resident of Patti in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. He was living in Aklatara area of Janjgir-Champa district. Police said the suspect came to their notice during a special checking campaign ordered by Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Pandey.

When a police team reached a house near Minimata Chowk to verify tenants, Singh’s behaviour raised suspicion. During questioning, his answers did not satisfy the officers. A search of his mobile phone reportedly revealed chats and contacts with numbers from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram.

Serious Allegations

Preliminary investigation suggests Singh was in touch with ISI-linked handlers. Police suspect he may have been sharing sensitive information such as locations, vehicle numbers, and photos of important persons and places. There are also unconfirmed claims that he was expecting weapon deliveries via drone from across the border for possible target killings. Officials, however, clarified that these aspects are still under investigation and no concrete confirmation has been established yet.

A case has been registered at Aklatara police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including Section 152 (acts endangering sovereignty) and others. The mobile phone has been seized and sent for forensic examination.

SP Vijay Kumar Pandey said the probe is progressing rapidly and all digital evidence is being thoroughly analysed. Further arrests or revelations cannot be ruled out as questioning continues.

This arrest comes amid heightened security concerns in Chhattisgarh, especially after previous cases involving radicalisation of local youths. Police have appealed to landlords to verify tenants properly and report any suspicious activity immediately.

The development has once again highlighted the challenge of cross-border intelligence networks attempting to exploit internal vulnerabilities. Officials maintained that the situation is under control and investigations are being conducted with utmost seriousness.

India has stepped up surveillance and anti-drone preparedness after warnings of possible drone attacks on strategic installations near land and maritime borders.

New Delhi, June 16: Security agencies across India have intensified protective measures at critical infrastructure and strategic locations following a government alert regarding potential drone threats along the country's land and coastal borders.

The warning, issued through the Maritime Security Division of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, has prompted the deployment and evaluation of anti-drone systems at several sensitive sites. Authorities are focusing on installations located near border regions and coastal assets considered vital to national security.

Warning Triggers Action

According to officials familiar with the development, the alert highlighted the growing threat posed by hostile drones and stressed the need for immediate protective measures.

The communication called for urgent steps to safeguard key facilities, particularly those situated near international borders. It noted that hostile unmanned aerial systems have the potential to disrupt operations at critical infrastructure and strategic establishments.

The advisory comes at a time when drone warfare and cross-border aerial threats have become increasingly prominent in regional and global security discussions.

Anti-Drone Systems Planned

Following the alert, multiple agencies have accelerated efforts to identify and deploy suitable anti-drone technologies.

Sources indicated that installations considered vulnerable are being assessed for surveillance upgrades and electronic countermeasure systems capable of detecting, tracking and neutralising unauthorized drones.

The focus remains on creating layered protection around facilities that could be targeted by hostile aerial platforms.

BSF Leading Evaluation

The Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted a specialised committee under the supervision of the Border Security Force (BSF) to evaluate available anti-drone technologies.

The committee has been tasked with testing and recommending systems best suited for India's operational requirements. Initial trials have reportedly begun in border areas of Punjab, where security agencies have been monitoring drone-related activities for several years.

Officials said the outcome of these evaluations will guide future procurement and deployment decisions.

Multi-Agency Coordination

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has also formed a dedicated team to assess security requirements at important locations.

The team includes representatives from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Airports Authority of India (AAI) and BSF. Officials involved in the exercise are conducting inspections at key sites across the country to determine vulnerability levels and recommend appropriate counter-drone solutions.

A final decision on deployment locations is expected after technical assessments are completed and approved by the Home Ministry.

Tamil Nadu Port Sets Example

One of the most significant developments in India's anti-drone strategy has been the installation of an advanced anti-drone system at the port facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

The system was commissioned earlier this year at the V.O. Chidambaranar Port, making it the first Indian port to adopt such technology for operational security. Developed in partnership with government-owned Central Electronics Limited, the system combines radar and radio-frequency technologies to identify, track and disable hostile drones.

Officials say the platform provides 360-degree surveillance coverage and has been designed specifically for maritime environments.

Lessons From Operation Sindoor

The renewed focus on anti-drone preparedness follows security experiences from Operation Sindoor in May 2025, when Indian air defence systems responded to aerial threats during military tensions with Pakistan.

Defence sources have previously stated that radar networks and air defence assets successfully intercepted hostile drones and aerial platforms during the operation. The episode reinforced concerns about the growing role of drones in modern conflict and highlighted the need for stronger protective infrastructure.

As drone technology becomes more accessible and sophisticated, security planners are increasingly treating counter-drone capabilities as a critical component of national defence.

India Successfully Tests Multi-Layered Missile Defence System, Strengthens Strategic Shield

DRDO's advanced Ballistic Missile Defence system demonstrates capability against long-range missile threats, boosting India's defence preparedness

India has achieved a major milestone in its defence modernization efforts after the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a series of tests showcasing its multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system. The trials, carried out on June 10 and 11, demonstrated the country's growing capability to detect, track, and intercept advanced missile threats, including long-range ballistic missiles.

According to official information, three consecutive flight tests validated critical technologies designed to strengthen India's air and missile defence architecture. During the exercises, interceptor missiles successfully engaged designated targets, confirming the effectiveness of a layered defence framework developed to counter evolving aerial threats.

The successful demonstration is being viewed as a significant advancement in India's strategic defence capabilities and highlights the country's continued push toward indigenous military technology development.

Major Defence Milestone

Officials stated that the tests confirmed the operational effectiveness of multiple integrated systems working in coordination. The multi-layered architecture is designed to provide protection against a range of ballistic missile threats by engaging hostile targets at different stages of flight.

Defence experts note that such systems rely on advanced radars, command-and-control networks, tracking sensors, and interceptor missiles working together in real time. The latest trials validated the ability of these systems to function as a unified defensive shield.

With the successful demonstration, India has further strengthened its position among countries possessing advanced missile defence technologies capable of addressing complex security challenges.

India's Growing Strategic Capability

The Ballistic Missile Defence program has been under development for several years as part of India's broader effort to enhance national security preparedness. The latest tests are considered an important step toward operational deployment of advanced missile interception capabilities.

Officials indicated that the system is designed to counter a wide spectrum of missile threats, including long-range ballistic missiles. The layered approach improves interception probability by providing multiple opportunities to neutralize incoming targets before they reach their intended destination.

Defence analysts believe such capabilities play an increasingly important role in modern security environments, where missile technology continues to evolve rapidly.

NASM-MR Flight Test Adds Maritime Strength

Alongside the missile defence trials, DRDO also successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile–Medium Range (NASM-MR).

The successful test marks a significant development for India's maritime defence strategy. The missile is expected to enhance the Indian Navy's ability to engage medium-range maritime targets with greater precision and effectiveness.

Officials said the system expands indigenous strike options available to naval forces and strengthens India's capability to address emerging maritime security challenges in the region.

Indigenous Technology Focus

DRDO emphasized that the technologies demonstrated during the tests have been developed using indigenous expertise and advanced domestic research capabilities.

The organization stated that the systems have been designed to address future threat scenarios across multiple operational domains. The achievement aligns with the government's broader objective of increasing self-reliance in critical defence technologies and reducing dependence on foreign military systems.

Defence manufacturing and indigenous research have become key priorities as India seeks to build a stronger domestic defence ecosystem capable of supporting long-term strategic requirements.

Defence Minister Praises Achievement

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated scientists, engineers, and personnel involved in the successful demonstrations.

According to official statements, the minister described the achievement as an important step toward enhancing India's national security architecture. He also highlighted the significance of technological self-reliance in strengthening the country's defence preparedness.

The successful trials are expected to contribute to India's long-term efforts to develop advanced strategic capabilities through indigenous innovation.

Understanding ICBM Threats

Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) are among the most advanced missile systems in the world. These missiles are designed to travel extremely long distances, typically exceeding 5,500 kilometers, and can carry conventional or nuclear payloads.

An ICBM follows a ballistic trajectory, traveling through the upper atmosphere and space before re-entering the atmosphere at high speed toward its target. Due to their range and velocity, they are considered one of the most challenging threats for missile defence systems.

Developing technologies capable of tracking and intercepting such threats requires highly sophisticated radar networks, command systems, and interceptor platforms.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday visited the Border Security Force’s (BSF) Sanchu Post in Bikaner, one of the most historically significant Indian frontier posts on the Rajasthan–Pakistan border. Shah arrived by helicopter at about 11:00 am and spent close to an hour at the outpost, where he interacted with jawans and reviewed the ground situation, officials said.

Historic post, frontline view

Sanchu Post, which has seen action in two India‑Pakistan wars, sits in the desert sector near Zero Point where the international boundary runs visibly across the plains. According to BSF officials, Shah inspected the post’s defensive positions and observation points and was shown the stretch of Pakistani territory that can be viewed from the zero line. Local officers said he was the first Union Home Minister to visit the Sanchu Post.

“Initial reports indicate the minister spent time with troops in the scorching afternoon heat, asking about operational challenges and welfare issues,” a senior BSF source said on condition of anonymity. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma accompanied Shah during the visit.

Meeting with collectors, SPs

After returning to Bikaner city, Shah is scheduled to chair a meeting with the Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from five border districts. The meeting, to be held at the BSF sector headquarters in the afternoon, will focus on rising smuggling activity along the border and other law-and-order concerns linked to national security, officials said. Senior officers from agencies involved in border management are also expected to attend.

Officials said the discussion will cover inter‑agency coordination, intelligence sharing and measures to curb cross‑border smuggling of goods and arms. Shah is expected to remain in Bikaner until around 12:30 pm before proceeding to the meeting, sources added.

Vibrant Village scheme launch

The visit will also see the launch of the Vibrant Village initiative for 184 villages along the Rajasthan border. Under the central scheme, work will begin to improve road connectivity and provide 4G mobile network access to these border habitations, officials said. The programme aims to improve living standards and strengthen resilience in remote frontier communities, while also improving surveillance and connectivity for security forces.

Shah reached Bikaner late on Monday and stayed overnight at the BSF Sector Headquarters after arriving by air at around 10:30 pm, according to local officials. The two‑day visit to border areas is part of a series of engagements by the Home Minister with forces and administrators in frontier districts.

Ground reality and local reaction

At the Sanchu Post, ground staff described an arid landscape dominated by sand and scrub, with long sightlines toward the Pakistani side. Troops briefed Shah on routine patrols, surveillance infrastructure and the logistical challenges posed by extreme daytime temperatures, a BSF official said. No operational developments or security incidents were reported during the visit.

Local residents and panchayat leaders welcomed the announcement of infrastructure work under the Vibrant Village scheme, saying better roads and mobile connectivity would help farmers and traders and improve access to emergency services. “Connectivity will make life easier for border villagers,” one sarpanch said, requesting not to be named.

Why the visit matters

Officials said the timing of the visit reflects growing central attention on border management and rural development in frontier districts. Smuggling along porous stretches of the India‑Pakistan border has been a recurring concern for both security forces and state governments; the upcoming meeting is likely to canvass tactical and administrative steps to tighten checks.

What’s next

After the Bikaner meeting, officials said Shah will receive a briefing on implementation plans for the Vibrant Village scheme and proposed timelines for road and telecom rollouts in the 184 listed villages. Follow‑up visits and reviews by central and state agencies are expected as work proceeds.

For now, the visit underscored a message of visibility and oversight — part inspection, part administrative review — with the Home Minister emphasizing coordination between security forces and district administrations along a sensitive stretch of the western border.

Tulsi Gabbard has resigned as the US director of national intelligence, citing her husband’s recent bone cancer diagnosis as the primary reason behind the decision. The resignation will reportedly take effect on June 30.

Exit After Oval Office Meeting

Former Democratic leader-turned-Republican figure Tulsi Gabbard informed US President Donald Trump of her decision during a meeting in the Oval Office on Friday, according to multiple US media reports that surfaced late evening local time.

In her resignation letter, Gabbard thanked Trump for the opportunity to head the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), a role she had held for nearly 18 months.

She reportedly wrote that she was “deeply grateful” for the trust placed in her during a politically turbulent period for US intelligence agencies.

The key reason, according to sources familiar with the matter, was her husband’s diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer. No additional medical details were immediately made public.

Major Intelligence Changes

During her tenure, Gabbard pushed through several structural and administrative changes across intelligence agencies.

Officials had earlier claimed that spending cuts and workforce restructuring initiated under her leadership could save the US government close to $700 million annually. Several internal reviews and consolidation efforts were launched across departments linked to intelligence coordination.

One of the more debated decisions involved shutting down DEI — Diversity, Equity and Inclusion — programmes in certain government offices. Supporters described the move as an effort to streamline administration, while critics argued it weakened representation efforts within federal institutions.

Release Of Documents

Gabbard also oversaw the public release of hundreds of thousands of government records.

These included files linked to the Trump–Russia investigation, along with documents related to the assassinations of former US Presidents John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy.

Documents tied to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation were also declassified. Gabbard had repeatedly alleged that intelligence assessments concerning Russian interference in the 2016 US election were used politically to undermine Trump’s victory.

That claim remained controversial in Washington and drew criticism from several former intelligence officials.

Counterterror Measures Highlighted

The National Counterterrorism Center, functioning under the wider intelligence framework, reportedly blocked more than 10,000 individuals with alleged terror or drug cartel links from entering the United States in 2025.

Officials also said over 85,000 names were added to or maintained on terror watchlists during the period.

Though the exact operational role played by Gabbard in those measures remains unclear, supporters within Republican circles frequently pointed to the numbers while defending her tenure.

Shift From Democrats

Gabbard’s political journey has remained unusual by modern US standards.

A former Democratic congresswoman and Iraq War veteran, she left the Democratic Party in October 2022, accusing party leadership of being controlled by what she described as an “elite cabal.” She later campaigned alongside several Republican candidates before formally aligning herself with Trump’s political camp.

Before that shift, she had twice sought the Democratic presidential nomination, first gaining national attention during the 2016 cycle and later during the 2020 Democratic primaries.

Her sharp exchange with Kamala Harris during a televised debate in 2019 became one of the most widely discussed moments of that primary season.

Background And Public Image

Despite frequent assumptions online, Tulsi Gabbard is not of Indian origin. She was born into a Samoan-American family and has publicly addressed the confusion several times over the years.

Her mother later adopted Hinduism, and Gabbard herself has identified with the faith for much of her adult life.

She also served as a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve and was deployed during the Iraq War, a background that helped shape her national security profile long before entering the intelligence establishment.

With her resignation now confirmed, attention is expected to shift toward who the Trump administration may appoint next to oversee US intelligence coordination ahead of a politically charged election cycle.

Probe agency says deceased mastermind Dr Umer Un Nabi led Al-Qaida-linked module that plotted to overthrow government

The National Investigation Agency has submitted a massive 7,500-page chargesheet before a special court in connection with the Red Fort car bomb explosion that claimed 11 lives in the national capital last November. Ten individuals have been named as accused, including a former medical professor who died in the blast itself.

Mastermind Never Made It to Court

Dr Umer Un Nabi, described by investigators as the key conspirator, was killed during the 10 November 2025 attack. A former assistant professor of medicine at Al-Falah University, he was among several radicalised medical professionals allegedly involved in plotting what the agency calls "Operation Heavenly Hind".

The other nine accused include Aamir Rashid Mir, Jasir Bilal Wani, Dr Muzamil Shakeel, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr Shaheen Saeed, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Soyab, Dr Bilal Naseer Malla and Yasir Ahmad Dar.

Terror Outfit Link Established

According to the agency, all accused were associated with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an offshoot of Al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent. The chargesheet was filed at Patiala House Courts under multiple legal provisions including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Sources familiar with the matter said investigators worked extensively to establish the group's operational network across half a dozen states.

Probe Spanned Six States

The investigation covered Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and the Delhi-NCR region. The case file contains 588 witness statements, more than 395 documents and over 200 material exhibits.

Officials said the accused had regrouped in Srinagar back in 2022 after failing to reach Afghanistan via Turkey. It was at this meeting that they allegedly revived the outfit under the name "AGuH Interim".

Conspiracy to Overthrow Government

The NIA has alleged that the conspiracy was aimed at removing India's democratically elected government and imposing Sharia rule. Investigators claim the group actively recruited members, spread extremist ideology and stockpiled weapons.

What has alarmed security agencies is the level of technical sophistication. The explosive used in the attack was triacetone triperoxide, a highly volatile substance that the accused allegedly manufactured after procuring precursor chemicals and conducting repeated experiments.

Weapons and Drone Tests

The agency further claimed the group procured prohibited weapons including an AK-47 rifle, a Krinkov rifle and country-made pistols. Perhaps more concerning, they allegedly experimented with rocket-mounted and drone-borne improvised explosive devices intended for strikes on security installations in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere.

Specialised laboratory equipment, including MMO anodes, electric circuits and switches, was purchased through both online and offline sources, investigators said.

So far, 11 people have been arrested in connection with the case. The NIA said efforts are continuing to locate additional suspects whose alleged roles emerged during the investigation.

Shipment of the advanced Triumf system expected to bolster IAF air defense following its critical role in Operation Sindoor.

New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s long-range air defense capabilities, the fourth unit of the S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile system is expected to arrive from Russia by next month. Sources within the security establishment confirmed on Tuesday that the shipment is already in transit and is slated to reach Indian shores within the coming days.

The arrival of the fourth unit comes at a time when the Indian Air Force (IAF) is looking to consolidate its edge in the region. The S-400 systems have already proven their mettle on the ground, having played a decisive role during 'Operation Sindoor'. While three units are already operational, the remaining two from the original contract are expected to be integrated into the IAF's grid by the end of this year.

Delivery timeline and shipment updates

Initial reports indicate that the fourth unit has been cleared for delivery following recent high-level technical inspections. Despite the ongoing global geopolitical tensions and logistical hurdles involving Russian shipments, the delivery schedule appears to be back on track.

According to officials familiar with the development, the fourth squadron will be deployed to a strategic location to cover specific high-threat sectors. The fifth and final unit of the initial $5 billion contract signed in 2018 is currently scheduled for delivery by November under an updated timeline agreed upon by both New Delhi and Moscow.

Impact of Operation Sindoor

The strategic value of the Triumf system was highlighted during the brief but intense military conflict with Pakistan between May 7 and 10. During what has been termed 'Operation Sindoor', the IAF utilized the S-400’s advanced tracking and interception capabilities to maintain air superiority.

The performance of the system during those high-pressure days reportedly influenced the government's decision to expand the fleet. It is learnt that the effectiveness of the radar sweeps and the deterrent value provided by the existing three units provided the necessary confidence to push for additional acquisitions.

Fresh batch of S-400s cleared

Moving beyond the original five-unit agreement, New Delhi recently cleared the procurement of a fresh batch of five additional S-400 systems. This follow-on order will eventually take the IAF’s total tally to 10 units.

"The decision to double the fleet underscores the military's reliance on this specific platform for long-range saturation coverage," a source said. This new batch is expected to feature minor software updates based on the feedback from Indian operators who have been trained in Russia over the last few years.

Navigating the CAATSA shadow

India’s insistence on completing the S-400 deal has remained a point of contention with Washington. The US had previously warned that the contract could trigger sanctions under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).

However, South Block remains confident that the "follow-on" nature of the new order, combined with India's unique security requirements, will prevent any significant diplomatic or economic blowback. Local authorities have consistently maintained that India pursues an independent defense procurement policy based on national interest.

Advanced air defense capabilities

The S-400 is widely regarded as one of the world's most sophisticated long-range surface-to-air missile systems, capable of engaging aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and ballistic and cruise missiles at ranges of up to 400 km.

With the fourth unit's arrival, the IAF will be able to plug existing gaps in its multi-layered air defense umbrella. As the shipment nears Indian ports, ground crews and specialized technical teams are reportedly being readied for the assembly and induction process, which typically takes a few weeks after the hardware arrives.

New Delhi signals readiness for larger diplomatic engagement as West Asia faces critical juncture

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has indicated that India could play a constructive role in future peace efforts between the United States and Iran. Speaking in Berlin, the minister said such a possibility cannot be ruled out as the West Asia crisis continues to impact global stability.

Strategic balancing act

Singh noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already appealed to both sides to end the conflict. New Delhi has maintained a “balanced approach” in all diplomatic engagements throughout the war. The defence minister added that India’s role in peace initiatives may grow over time. This expansion, he clarified, would depend entirely on global circumstances and regional requirements.

Fresh firing in Hormuz

The statement came shortly after fresh escalation in the Strait of Hormuz. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre reported that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired upon a container ship early Wednesday. The incident occurred 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman. A Guard gunboat reportedly did not issue any radio warning before opening fire. The vessel sustained heavy damage to its bridge, though all crew members remained safe.

Trump extends ceasefire

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced an indefinite extension of the existing ceasefire with Iran. Trump claimed Tehran is now “starving for cash” and losing approximately $500 million daily due to the naval blockade. He added that Iranian military and police personnel are not receiving salaries. The extension came at the request of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to Trump.

Iranian conditions for talks

Tehran has linked any fresh negotiations to the lifting of US port restrictions. Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir-Saeid Iravani stated that the United States must halt what he called “violation of the ceasefire” before any new round. “As soon as they lift the blockade, the next round will be held in Islamabad,” Iravani told Iranian media. He added that Iran is prepared for any scenario, political or military.

Chinese warning on escalation

China has warned that West Asia stands at a “very critical juncture.” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the region could either move toward peace or slip back into full-scale conflict. Beijing urged all efforts to be made to prevent a resumption of hostilities. This warning followed reports of a second ship coming under attack in the same waters shortly after the first incident.

What lies ahead

Military planners from nearly 30 countries are now meeting in London to flesh out details of a potential Hormuz security mission. Britain and France are leading the two-day gathering at a UK command centre. The plan remains dependent on a sustainable ceasefire holding between Washington and Tehran. For India, officials suggested that any formal peace role would likely emerge only after the second round of Islamabad talks concludes. As an English News Portal India update confirmed, New Delhi is watching the situation closely while ensuring safe passage for its own tankers through the conflict zone.

High Court Directs FIR

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday ordered the registration of an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The court accepted the Uttar Pradesh government’s plea and directed that the Central Bureau of Investigation take up the case.

CBI Investigation Directed

Counsel for the state government argued strongly that the matter required a CBI probe. The judge agreed and ordered the agency to investigate the British citizenship allegations once the FIR is registered by police.

Evidence Presented in Court

Petitioner Vignesh Shishir told the court that the affidavit and supporting documents could prove vital. He claimed the papers show Rahul Gandhi may have acted as a voter in the United Kingdom and taken part in elections there. The bench will now verify the claims.

Confidential Documents Reviewed

Justice Subhash Vidyarthi asked the Foreigners Division of the Union Home Ministry to produce all relevant records. Officials submitted the complete set of files, including confidential and top-secret documents, before the High Court in open proceedings.

Lower Court Order Overturned

The petition challenged the January 28, 2026 order of the Special MP-MLA magistrate. That court had refused to direct the Kotwali police station in Rae Bareli to register an FIR. The High Court set aside the earlier decision and cleared the way for fresh action.

Serious Charges Sought

The plea seeks action under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 along with the Official Secrets Act 1923, the Passport Act 1967 and the Foreigners Act 1946. The petitioner argued that the issues touch upon national security and citizenship rules.

National Security at Stake

This is the first time the matter has received detailed hearing at the High Court level. The Union Home Ministry formally placed its stand on record during the proceedings. Officials indicated that the CBI will begin its work immediately after the FIR is lodged.

The ruling has triggered fresh debate on citizenship norms for public representatives. Political observers are watching closely to see how the investigation proceeds. The case is being followed as a key public interest story in the latest news today.

With the Allahabad HC orders FIR against Rahul Gandhi now active, the outcome of the CBI probe will decide the next steps in this high-profile matter that continues to draw national attention.

The US-designated global terrorist and Lashkar-e-Taiba founding member was gunned down outside a television channel office in Pakistan's Lahore — the second such attempt on his life in under a year.

Gunmen Strike in Broad Daylight

Amir Hamza, a founding member of Lashkar-e-Taiba, was shot by unidentified gunmen outside a news channel office in Lahore on Thursday. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where the condition of the 66-year-old is said to be critical. Pakistani authorities have launched an investigation, though no arrests had been made at the time of filing this report.

Second Attack in a Year

This is not the first time Hamza has found himself in a gunman's crosshairs. He was targeted in a similar shooting outside his residence in Lahore in May last year. Pakistani security agencies had reportedly tightened his security following that incident, yet Thursday's brazen daylight attack has once again exposed glaring lapses. The ISI and Lahore Police are yet to identify the attackers or establish any motive.

A Founding Hand Behind LeT

Hamza is one of the 17 individuals who established Lashkar-e-Taiba in 1987, co-founding the outfit alongside Hafiz Saeed and Abdul Rahman Makki. He is a veteran of the Afghan mujahideen and was once the editor of LeT's official publication. Over the years, he served on the organisation's Central Advisory Committee and was instrumental in forging ties with other extremist groups operating across South Asia.

Terror Links Traced to India

Hamza's profile extends well beyond Pakistan's borders. According to security agencies, he has been linked to multiple terrorist strikes on Indian soil, including the attack on the Army brigade headquarters in Sunjwan, Jammu. He also led a charity front organisation connected to LeT and served on the board of a university trust previously headed by Hafiz Saeed — entities widely regarded as vehicles for recruitment, propaganda, and terror financing.

America's Global Terrorist Tag

Washington has long flagged Hamza as a serious threat. The United States formally designated him a global terrorist in 2012, citing his role in LeT's fundraising, propaganda operations, and his deep links to the broader jihadist network across Afghanistan and South Asia. His connections to Hafiz Saeed and other sanctioned individuals have kept him firmly on the radar of international security agencies.

The Jaish-e-Manqafa Split

Around 2018, Lashkar-e-Taiba reportedly fractured following an acute shortage of funds. According to sources, Hamza distanced himself from the parent organisation and subsequently floated a new outfit named Jaish-e-Manqafa. The breakaway group is believed to have retained ideological links to the LeT ecosystem while operating independently — a development that Indian and international intelligence communities have been monitoring closely.

Pattern of Targeted Killings

The incident involving Hamza comes just days after another senior LeT figure, Razaullah Nizamani Khalid alias Abu Saifullah Khalid, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Sindh province. Khalid, who once headed LeT's operations from Nepal, was the mastermind of the 2006 RSS headquarters attack in Nagpur and was also linked to the 2005 terror attack on the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru. The back-to-back attacks on senior LeT figures have prompted speculation about a targeted campaign against the organisation's ageing leadership, though no group has claimed responsibility for either incident.

Pakistan's security establishment faces mounting pressure to explain how a US-designated global terrorist — wounded once, now shot again — continues to move freely through one of the country's major cities. As Amir Hamza fights for his life in a Lahore hospital, the identity and motive of his attackers remain unknown, leaving a trail of questions that authorities are yet to answer.

Centre to integrate Army, Air Force, Navy under unified commands targeting Pakistan and China threats; Deputy CDS post among key additions

Blueprint Sent to Rajnath Singh

New Delhi: India is on the verge of its most far-reaching military restructuring since independence. The Department of Military Affairs has finalised a blueprint to establish Joint Theatre Commands — integrated operational structures that will bring the Army, Air Force, and Navy under a single, unified chain of command for the first time.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the proposal is now headed to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and will subsequently require clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Security.

Three Commands, Two Frontiers

The new architecture envisages three distinct theatre commands. The Western Theatre Command, to be headquartered in Jaipur, will manage all operations along the Pakistan border and the Line of Control. The Northern Theatre Command, with its base in Lucknow, will be tasked with addressing threats from China along the Line of Actual Control. A Maritime Theatre Command will be stood up to secure India's interests across the Indian Ocean Region.

All three will function under the authority of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan.

Deputy CDS Post on the Cards

The proposed restructuring would also introduce a new post — the Deputy CDS — who will hold a four-star rank, matching the service chiefs. This would bring the total number of four-star officers in the restructured military to five, alongside the CDS and the three service chiefs.

Sources indicated that the announcement may coincide with General Chauhan's tenure ending in late May 2026. Plans for dedicated Space and Cyber Commands are also part of the broader reform framework.

Lessons From Five Conflicts

The blueprint, as per reports, has been shaped directly by observations drawn from five major military confrontations over the past decade — the 2016 surgical strikes, the 2019 Balakot air strikes, the 2017 Doklam standoff, the 2020 Galwan clash, and the 88-hour Operation Sindoor in 2025.

Officials involved in the planning process noted that independent service actions repeatedly exposed friction points — communication gaps, resource overlap, and coordination delays between the three forces.

Operation Sindoor, however, marked a turning point. According to officials, it was the first time all three services operated in genuine integration within a compressed timeframe, combining missile strikes, drone swarms, electronic warfare, and ground forces in a single coordinated campaign.

Service Assignments Under New Structure

Under the proposed model, the Air Force will take command of the Western Theatre, with an Army officer as Deputy Commander. The Northern Theatre will be Army-led, with an Air Force officer as deputy. The Maritime Command will be under the Navy, with the Deputy Commander post rotating between the Army and Air Force.

Each theatre will also house cyber, space, and special operations sub-commands, a unified supply chain covering all three services, and intelligence fusion centres designed to ensure faster, cleaner information flow.

Four New Forces to Be Raised

Alongside the theatre commands, the government is preparing to raise four new specialised forces: a Defence Geo-Spatial Agency, and three action forces covering Data, Drone, and Cognitive Warfare. The Cognitive Warfare Force will focus on psychological operations and information-domain capabilities — an area that gained significant attention following the lessons of Operation Sindoor.

'Theatre-Ready by May 2026'

Retired Lieutenant General S.L. Narasimhan described the restructuring as the single largest military reform India has undertaken since 1947. Once the first theatre command becomes operational, India's armed forces will shift from being joint to being truly theatre-ready — a qualitative leap he compared directly to the integrated performance witnessed during Operation Sindoor.

Annual joint exercises — at least two per theatre per year — and protocols for simultaneous two-front war scenarios are also expected to be embedded within the new framework, along with an automated system for cross-service resource sharing.

The first theatre command is expected to go live by May 2026, marking the beginning of a structural transformation that has been debated and delayed for nearly two decades.

India rejects China renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh, reiterates sovereignty and warns against actions affecting bilateral ties

Strong Diplomatic Response

India has firmly rejected China’s latest move to rename locations in Arunachal Pradesh, calling the exercise “fictitious” and reiterating that such actions do not alter ground realities. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a sharp response, underlining that Arunachal Pradesh remains an integral and inalienable part of India.

The development comes amid ongoing sensitivities in India-China relations, making this a significant India News Update in the broader geopolitical context.

MEA Calls Move Mischievous

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described China’s attempt as a “mischievous” exercise aimed at asserting baseless claims. According to officials, assigning new names to established geographical locations does not carry any legal or diplomatic weight.

“Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain part of India,” Jaiswal said, reinforcing New Delhi’s long-standing position on the issue.

Repeated Renaming Attempts

China has undertaken similar exercises multiple times over the past decade, each drawing strong protests from India.

In 2017, China renamed six locations, followed by 15 in 2021. The trend continued with 11 places in 2023 and as many as 30 locations in 2024, including residential areas, mountains, rivers, and a mountain pass.

Officials noted that these repeated attempts reflect a pattern rather than isolated incidents, making it a recurring point of friction in bilateral ties.

Impact on Bilateral Relations

India has warned that such actions could adversely affect ongoing efforts to stabilise relations between the two countries. Sources indicated that diplomatic engagement requires mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

At a time when both nations are engaged in dialogue to ease border tensions, particularly in eastern Ladakh, such developments risk undermining trust-building measures.

New County in Xinjiang

Parallel to the renaming issue, China has also created a new administrative unit named “Senling” in the Xinjiang region. Approved on March 26, the county falls under Kashgar Prefecture.

The region holds strategic importance due to its proximity to Afghanistan, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and the Karakoram range. This marks the third such administrative restructuring in Xinjiang within a year, following the creation of Hiyan and Hekang counties.

Strategic Concerns Raised

Indian officials have expressed concern over these administrative changes, particularly where territorial overlaps are perceived. Parts of earlier created counties reportedly fall in areas India considers part of Ladakh, including Aksai Chin.

Such developments are viewed not merely as administrative adjustments but as moves with strategic implications, especially in sensitive border regions.

Link to Regional Projects

The newly formed Senling County is connected to Kashgar, historically a key node on the Silk Road. In contemporary terms, it is also linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship infrastructure project passing through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

India has consistently opposed CPEC, stating it violates its sovereignty. The latest developments are likely to deepen these concerns within policy circles.

What Lies Ahead

India is expected to continue raising the issue through diplomatic channels while maintaining its firm stance on territorial integrity. Officials indicated that sustained vigilance and consistent messaging will remain key to addressing such challenges.

As geopolitical dynamics evolve, the issue of China renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh is likely to remain a recurring theme in National and International News, with implications for regional stability and bilateral engagement.
