Winter Weakens in Madhya Pradesh as Day Temperatures Cross 30°C; Minor Weather Changes Expected

Winter is gradually retreating across Madhya Pradesh, with daytime temperatures already crossing 30°C in more than 15 cities, while night temperatures have also risen above 10°C, according to the India Meteorological Department centre in Bhopal.

Meteorologists said mild chill may persist for the next two days, after which minimum temperatures are likely to rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius. Two western disturbances are expected to become active over the western Himalayan region between February 13 and 16. Their impact will be visible in the hills but will have minimal effect on the state’s weather.

Due to a current weather system, light cloud cover has been observed over western parts of the state, leading to slight variations in conditions in some districts. Cloudy skies may continue intermittently, though rainfall is not expected during this period.

Forecasters indicated that snowfall in northern mountain regions could trigger another brief spell of mild cold once the system passes and snow begins to melt, but it is unlikely to be intense.

Recent data show that cities including Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Khargone and Narmadapuram recorded daytime temperatures above 30°C. Night temperatures in Narmadapuram and Sagar remained around or above 17°C. The lowest temperature was recorded in Pachmarhi at 8.2°C, followed by Khajuraho at 8.6°C and Rewa at 10.2°C.

Historical trends show that February weather varies across major cities. Bhopal typically experiences warm days and cool nights, with maximum temperatures exceeding 35°C in several recent years. Indore rarely records February rainfall, while Gwalior is known for sharp cold spells due to direct northern winds. Jabalpur often sees fluctuating conditions and occasional February showers, whereas Ujjain experiences a mix of warmth, cold and occasional rain during the month.

Overall, weather officials expect a gradual transition toward warmer conditions across the state, with only brief fluctuations in temperature and cloud cover in the coming days.
