Officials said one additional superintendent of police, five city superintendents of police, and 30 station house officers have been tasked with field duty on Saturday. These officers will supervise security operations across key public areas where crowds are expected, including tourist spots and recreational venues.

Authorities stated that the measures were introduced as a precaution to maintain law and order, deter harassment, and respond quickly to any untoward incident. Fixed police deployment points have also been established at 21 sensitive locations throughout the district to ensure continuous monitoring.

The alert comes amid concerns raised by Bhim Army, which submitted a memorandum to district police seeking protection for couples. The group alleged that in previous years some fringe elements engaged in moral policing or intimidation during Valentine’s Day celebrations. It urged authorities to take strict action against anyone attempting violence or harassment in the name of cultural enforcement.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Manishankar Chandra said police will act immediately against anyone found disrupting peace or taking the law into their own hands. He added that all units, including control room teams, emergency response services, and reserve forces, have been placed on alert to ensure rapid deployment if required.

Special arrangements have also been made for women’s safety. Dedicated teams have been assigned to sensitive areas with instructions to maintain visible patrol presence and assist citizens if needed. Traffic police have received separate guidelines to manage congestion near popular gathering spots.

Senior officers said such coordinated security planning has become standard practice during major public events and observances, especially when large gatherings are expected. They emphasized that the objective is preventive policing rather than reactive action.

Police appealed to residents to celebrate responsibly and report suspicious activity through emergency helplines. Officials said the success of the security plan will depend on cooperation between citizens and law enforcement personnel throughout the day.
