Roy, who won the Dhaka-3 parliamentary seat in the Feb. 12 general election, is viewed within the party as a seasoned figure with administrative experience and strong ties to the Zia political family. He previously served as a state minister during the government of former prime minister Khaleda Zia from 1991 to 1996, overseeing portfolios including environment, forests, fisheries and livestock.

The Election Commission has issued the official gazette notification confirming newly elected lawmakers. Under constitutional provisions, members of parliament must take their oath within three days of the declaration of results. Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the MPs of the 13th parliament will be sworn in Tuesday morning, followed by the cabinet oath ceremony later the same day.

Party leaders indicated the new administration is likely to have a cabinet of about 30 to 40 members, combining experienced figures from earlier BNP governments with younger leaders. The final lineup will be determined by the party’s standing committee and Rahman himself, who, as prime minister, retains authority to alter ministerial assignments until the swearing-in.

Roy is one of four lawmakers from minority communities elected to the new parliament. Two of them are Hindu leaders — Roy and Nitai Roy Chowdhury — both of whom defeated candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami. The other two are Saching Prue of the Marma community from Bandarban and Dipen Diwan of the Chakma community from Rangamati.

Party insiders say several names are under consideration for key ministries. Former commerce minister Aamir Khusro Mahmud Chowdhury is being discussed for a return to the commerce portfolio, while economist Reza Kibria is seen as a possible finance minister. Senior leader Salahuddin Ahmed is among those considered for the home ministry.

The swearing-in process will begin after lawmakers elect their parliamentary leader. The majority leader will then meet President Mohammad Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban, who will formally invite him to form the government and approve the list of ministers submitted for oath.

Political analysts say the inclusion of minority representatives such as Roy would signal an effort by the incoming administration to project inclusiveness while consolidating authority after a decisive electoral mandate. The composition of the cabinet, expected to be announced within hours of the oath ceremony, is likely to indicate the new government’s priorities and internal power balance.
