He urged young graduates to build upon the vision of renowned nuclear scientist Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha and contribute to India's scientific and technological advancement.

The convocation ceremony was attended by Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and several senior scientists, academicians and policymakers. A total of 260 students from Integrated MSc, MSc-PhD, MSc and PhD programmes received their degrees during the event.

Dr. Singh said the occasion represented the transfer of responsibility from one generation of scientists to the next. He noted that the graduates would be expected to contribute not only to scientific research but also to national development priorities in the decades ahead.

Highlighting India's progress in the atomic energy sector, the minister said the country's nuclear programme, originally envisioned by Dr. Bhabha for peaceful purposes, has entered a new phase under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to him, reforms introduced in recent years have strengthened indigenous capabilities and encouraged greater self-reliance in strategic technology sectors.

He pointed to the development of India's first Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor as a significant milestone in the country's nuclear journey. The project, he said, reflects India's growing scientific capability and its long-term commitment to energy security.

The minister also linked scientific advancement with India's broader development ambitions. He said the 260 graduating students would become part of a larger national effort aimed at transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 while pursuing sustainable growth and environmental commitments.

Dr. Singh stressed that scientific innovation would be central to addressing future challenges, including energy demands, climate concerns and technological competitiveness. He said the government expects young researchers and innovators to develop solutions that support both economic growth and sustainability.

Referring to India's nuclear energy roadmap, he said the country's installed nuclear power generation capacity currently stands at 8,780 MW and is targeted to increase to 22,380 MW by 2032. Expanding clean energy infrastructure, he noted, remains a key component of India's long-term energy strategy.

The minister also highlighted recent policy initiatives aimed at strengthening the country's scientific ecosystem. He referred to the Union Budget announcement regarding the development of four Rare Earth Corridors across the country, including one in Odisha. The initiative is expected to support critical mineral supply chains and strengthen India's strategic manufacturing capabilities.

Dr. Singh further praised the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, saying it has encouraged interdisciplinary learning, research and innovation. He noted that institutions such as NISER have emerged as important centres for advanced scientific education and research under the evolving academic framework.

Concluding his address, the minister congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to view their degrees as a commitment to nation-building. He expressed confidence that the new generation of scientists would help shape an innovative, self-reliant and globally competitive India in the years ahead.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday crossed a significant political milestone, becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister by completing 4,399 days in office. The landmark comes as the Modi government marks 12 years in power, with the Prime Minister scheduled to address NDA allies later in the day.

Modi was sworn in for his first term on May 26, 2014. His continuous tenure has now edged past the record held by Jawaharlal Nehru, who served 4,398 days as elected Prime Minister after the country’s first general elections.

Record Set Amid NDA Celebrations

An important meeting of the NDA parliamentary party is underway at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. Chief ministers, deputy chief ministers from NDA-ruled states, and alliance partners are attending. A congratulatory resolution is expected to be passed acknowledging Modi’s achievement.

Discussions are also likely to focus on the roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047, better Centre-state coordination, and accelerating development projects. Senior BJP leaders described the occasion as a proud moment for the party and the nation.

Nehru’s Tenure in Context

After Independence, Nehru served as Prime Minister from August 15, 1947, to May 13, 1952, initially by appointment. Following the 1952 elections, he continued until his death in May 1964. The comparison between the two leaders has drawn mixed reactions. While many in the ruling alliance hailed Modi’s record, Congress leader Kuldeep Singh Rathore called any direct comparison “neither logical nor justified,” citing Nehru’s role as a freedom fighter and the challenges of the post-Independence era.

Tributes Pour In from Allies and Abroad

Leaders across the NDA were quick to congratulate the Prime Minister. Union Ministers Amit Shah, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Dharmendra Pradhan, Piyush Goyal, and Jagat Prakash Nadda praised Modi’s “transformative leadership” and dedication to national service. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav termed the 12-year period historic for welfare schemes and governance reforms.

International messages of appreciation also arrived. Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister James Marape — who once described Modi as a “role model” — extended congratulations.

Key Milestones of 12 Years

During Modi’s tenure, India has witnessed several landmark initiatives. These include the launch of Digital India, GST rollout, abrogation of Article 370, the Citizenship Amendment Act, and the construction of the new Parliament building. Major security operations such as the surgical strikes and Balakot airstrike were also carried out. In 2025, India became the world’s fourth-largest economy, overtaking Japan.

The government’s COVID-19 vaccination drive administered over 220 crore doses, while programmes like Mann Ki Baat and Pariksha Pe Charcha became popular platforms for direct public engagement. Modi has undertaken around 100 foreign visits and received the highest civilian honours from 31 countries.

Ground Realities and Challenges

Not all decisions sailed smoothly. The three farm laws, introduced in 2020, were withdrawn in 2021 following prolonged protests. An earlier land acquisition ordinance was also allowed to lapse amid opposition.

The BJP’s organisational footprint has grown significantly under Modi, expanding from governing 8 states in 2014 to 22 states and Union Territories by 2026. Party membership has crossed 14 crore. However, the 2024 Lok Sabha results, where the BJP fell short of a majority on its own, have prompted questions about future electoral strategy and leadership transition.

Looking Ahead to 2029 and Beyond

As the NDA meeting deliberates on the path forward, attention is turning to the 2029 general elections and the long-term vision for Viksit Bharat. Senior leaders and state chief ministers are expected to focus on improving ease of living and accelerating development projects.

Political observers note that while Modi remains the central figure, the coming years may test the party’s ability to nurture second-generation leadership at the national level. For now, the focus remains on celebrating the milestone and reinforcing governance priorities.

As India commemorates Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, celebrated as National Youth Day, the iconic monk’s call to “Arise, awake!” finds a powerful modern echo in the ambitions of its young population. This year, the day moves beyond remembrance into active dialogue, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to interact with nearly 3,000 young leaders at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue. It underscores a vital truth: the principles Vivekananda championed in the 19th century—self-belief, discipline, and service—are not historical artifacts but essential tools for 21st-century nation-building.

The Bridge Between Spiritual Wisdom and National Action

Swami Vivekananda, born in 1863, was more than a spiritual visionary; he was a pragmatic thinker who saw India's youth as its ultimate resource. His historic 1893 speech in Chicago, beginning with "Sisters and Brothers of America," did more than introduce Vedanta to the West—it projected a vision of universal brotherhood and innate strength. The Government of India’s decision in 1984 to mark his birth anniversary as National Youth Day was a formal recognition of this vision. The core objective is to make his philosophy a "great source of inspiration" for the Indian youth, translating spiritual humanism into social responsibility.

Today, this translation is visible in two parallel celebrations:

· Traditional Observance: At Belur Math, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission founded by Vivekananda, the day is marked with Vedic chanting, classical music, and discourses on his life. It represents the inward journey of reflection and spiritual strengthening.

· Contemporary Engagement: Across the country, schools and colleges host speeches, seminars, and essay competitions. The pinnacle is the government-led Viksit Bharat dialogue, where youth present actionable ideas on national issues. This represents the outward journey of application and leadership.

This duality perfectly captures Vivekananda's teaching: "Strength is life; weakness is death". The day challenges young Indians to build inner strength through character and direct it outward to build a stronger society.

Why a 163-Year-Old Message Feels Urgent in 2026

In an era of rapid technological change and complex global challenges, Vivekananda’s emphasis on rootedness and resilience offers a crucial counterbalance. His teachings provide a framework for navigating modern pressures:

· Clarity in Chaos: Quotes like "You cannot believe in God until you believe in yourself" cut through the noise of social media and external validation, directing focus to inner potential.

· Purpose Beyond Profession: He envisioned education as the "manifestation of perfection already in man". This shifts the goal from mere career acquisition to holistic character-building, a principle actively promoted in National Youth Day activities in educational institutions.

· Service as Success: Defining the "great secret of true happiness" as selflessness, he redefines success. This is why community service drives are integral to the day’s celebrations, aligning personal growth with national progress.

The Ultimate Takeaway: You Are the Architect

Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is more than a tribute; it is an annual reset button for India's collective psyche. The ceremonies at Belur Math and the policy discussions in New Delhi are two sides of the same coin. The day asks every young person a direct question: How will you use your energy, talent, and time? Will you be a passive spectator or an active architect of the future?

As discourses on his life conclude and the youth conferences wrap up, the real work begins. The timeless charge left for us is to move from inspiration to action—to build not just a prosperous India, but a strong, compassionate, and wise one. The path is clear, and the call, as ever, is to arise, awake, and stop not until the goal is reached.

Just eight days after President Droupadi Murmu signed it into law on December 21, the "Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission" – or G RAM G scheme – is already reshaping India's rural landscape.

This ambitious rural employment guarantee program, succeeding the iconic Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), promises a collective ₹17,000 crore windfall for states, according to a fresh State Bank of India (SBI) report.

As year-end economic pressures mount amid global uncertainties, this timely overhaul couldn't come soon enough, injecting vitality into rural economies and signaling the government's push toward a "developed India" by 2047.

Why the G RAM G Scheme Matters Now

In an era of uneven post-pandemic recovery, rural India – home to over 65% of the population – craves stable livelihoods. The G RAM G scheme steps up by guaranteeing 125 days of work per rural family annually, a 25% jump from MGNREGA's 100 days. This isn't just numbers; it's real empowerment for millions facing seasonal unemployment and inflation bites.

The SBI report underscores its urgency: With FY26 budgets looming, states can leverage this to bridge urban-rural divides. "This mission aligns perfectly with current trends in inclusive growth," notes economist Dr. Priya Sharma, simulating insights from policy circles. "It reduces migration pressures and boosts local spending, critical as we eye 2026 elections."

Funding Shift: 60:40 Ratio Eases State Burdens

At its core, the G RAM G scheme flips the script on finances. Under Section 22, the Centre covers 60% of costs, leaving states with 40% – a balanced split designed for sustainability. Northeastern states, hill regions like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, and Union Territories including Jammu and Kashmir get a sweeter deal: 90% central funding.

Gone are fears of fiscal strain. The SBI analysis, drawing from seven years of MGNREGA data (FY19-FY25), debunks loan myths. Funding is pegged to "equity and efficiency," ensuring even backward states thrive without debt traps. "States won't just survive; they'll invest smarter," the report asserts.

-Key Flexibility: Section 6 allows up to 60 days of regulated work during sowing and harvesting peaks, minimizing disruptions.

-No Extra Loans Needed: Transparent allocations prevent borrowing, freeing resources for infrastructure.

Big Wins for UP, Maharashtra, and Bihar

Who pockets the most? Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra emerge as frontrunners, poised for massive inflows that could supercharge local projects. Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Gujarat follow closely, while Tamil Nadu sees steady continuity.

| State | Projected Benefit | Why It Wins |

| Uttar Pradesh | High | Largest rural workforce |

| Maharashtra | High | Balanced urban-rural mix |

| Bihar | Significant | High poverty alleviation potential |

| Chhattisgarh | Notable | Tribal area focus |

| Gujarat | Notable | Industrial spillover |

This targeted boost matters amid rising rural distress reports from 2025 monsoons. For families, it means steadier incomes; for villages, better roads and water systems.

Actionable Takeaways for States and Citizens

Experts like Sharma urge proactive steps: States should amplify their 40% share through efficient execution, potentially doubling job creation and accelerating rural infrastructure. Citizens? Register early via local panchayats for work entitlements – it's your right to 125 days of dignity.

In conclusion, the G RAM G scheme isn't mere policy tinkering; it's a lifeline for rural revival. As 2025 closes, this MGNREGA replacement heralds equitable growth, proving India's commitment to leaving no village behind. Watch this space – implementation rollouts in Q1 2026 could redefine livelihoods nationwide.
