A 33-year-old undertrial prisoner lodged in Jagdalpur Central Jail died during treatment after reportedly sustaining a severe head injury in an accident inside the prison premises. Jail and police authorities have initiated the required legal procedures and an investigation into the incident is underway.

According to preliminary information, the deceased inmate, identified as Ramesh Kunjam, was a resident of Lingapur village in Bijapur district's Usur area. He was lodged in jail in connection with a case related to Naxal activities and had been shifted from Dantewada Jail to Jagdalpur Central Jail in November 2025.

Officials said the incident occurred late at night when the inmate reportedly went to the prison bathroom. While returning, he allegedly slipped and fell, suffering a serious injury to his head.

The impact reportedly caused heavy bleeding, prompting immediate intervention by prison staff and fellow inmates. Security personnel on duty arranged for his transfer to the Government Medical College Hospital at Dimrapal for emergency treatment.

Serious Head Injury

Hospital sources indicated that Kunjam was admitted in critical condition and placed under intensive medical supervision. Doctors reportedly shifted him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to the severity of his injuries.

Despite medical efforts, his condition continued to deteriorate. Officials confirmed that he died during treatment on the morning of June 5.

Following the death, police and jail authorities informed the concerned agencies and initiated procedural action as required under law.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have ordered a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Statements from prison personnel and other inmates are also expected to form part of the inquiry.

The latest incident marks the second inmate death reported from Jagdalpur Central Jail within a span of one week.

Earlier, a female prisoner lodged in the jail died in an alleged suicide case. According to preliminary findings in that matter, the woman was facing charges in a murder case and was reportedly experiencing mental distress before her death. Authorities had launched a separate investigation into that incident as well.

The consecutive deaths have brought attention to inmate welfare, medical response systems, and safety measures within correctional facilities. Prison authorities are expected to review existing protocols and submit reports regarding both incidents.

A case involving the alleged illegal occupation of a mortgaged residential property has come to light in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district. Police have registered an FIR against a man accused of breaking official seals placed by a bank and forcibly reoccupying a property that had been taken into possession under recovery proceedings.

The complaint was filed by officials of Chhattisgarh Gramin Bank, who alleged that the accused twice broke the bank’s sealed locks and removed notices placed on the property. Authorities claim the actions interfered with the legal recovery process and caused financial losses to the bank.

The dispute is linked to a home loan of ₹26 lakh obtained by Mohammad Kasim Khan and Mohammad Naseem Khan. The borrowers had mortgaged a 1,200-square-foot residential property located in Subhash Nagar, Kasaridih, to secure the loan.

According to bank officials, following the death of Mohammad Kasim Khan, loan repayments were allegedly discontinued. As a result, the account was classified as a Non-Performing Asset (NPA), leading the bank to initiate recovery proceedings under the SARFAESI Act.

Property Sealed Twice

Officials stated that on March 21, 2025, the property was formally taken into possession and sealed in the presence of administrative officials and police personnel following an order issued by the District Magistrate.

However, the bank alleges that Kasim Khan’s son, Mohammad Wasim Khan, broke the lock on the same day and reoccupied the premises along with his family members.

Following complaints by the bank, authorities again took possession of the property on March 10, 2026, and sealed it under administrative supervision. Despite the second action, officials allege that the accused once again entered the property and resumed occupation.

E-Auction Process Delayed

The bank had initiated an e-auction process for the property on April 27, 2026, as part of loan recovery efforts. However, the auction was temporarily halted after the accused reportedly obtained interim relief from the Bilaspur High Court for a limited period.

Bank authorities stated that legal proceedings related to the property remain ongoing.

Inspection Reveals Irregularities

According to the complaint, a team led by the Regional Manager and NPA Manager visited the property on April 28, 2026. During the inspection, officials allegedly found that the bank’s sealed locks had been removed and replaced with different locks.

They also claimed that physical possession notices painted on the property walls had been erased through repainting and renovation work.

Local residents reportedly informed officials that the accused had re-entered the premises after removing the seals, though these claims remain part of the ongoing investigation.

Mutation Allegations Examined

The complaint further alleges that changes were made in revenue records relating to the mortgaged property. Bank officials have claimed that names were added or altered without obtaining the bank’s consent, despite the property being under mortgage.

Authorities are examining the relevant land and revenue documents as part of the investigation.

According to the ED, the liquor scam investigation centres on allegations that illegal profits were generated through the distribution and sale of liquor via government-linked retail channels. Investigators allege that the network accumulated substantial proceeds of crime through these operations.

The agency has reportedly named dozens of individuals in connection with the case and continues to examine financial records, corporate structures, and transaction trails.

DMF and Other Cases

Apart from the liquor case, authorities are examining alleged irregularities involving District Mineral Foundation funds. Investigators claim that contracts were awarded to preferred entities and that commissions were allegedly collected through the execution of public projects.

Additional inquiries are underway into alleged irregularities involving hologram procurement, placement agency payments, and custom milling operations. Officials say these cases form part of a broader examination of public fund utilisation and procurement practices.

Assets Under Attachment

Investigating agencies state that attached assets include land parcels, commercial properties, investments, bank deposits, shares, mutual fund holdings, and other movable and immovable properties.

Officials claim that a significant portion of the attached assets consists of properties allegedly held through benami arrangements. The ownership and source of these assets remain subject to legal proceedings and court review.

Legal Proceedings Continue

The ED has informed the court about its findings through chargesheets and prosecution complaints filed under anti-money laundering laws. Hearings in the matter are expected to continue as investigators present evidence and financial records collected during the probe.

Authorities are also examining the role of other individuals who may have been connected to the alleged transactions and financial networks under investigation.

A major case of alleged fraud in the public healthcare system has emerged in Madhya Pradesh, where nine individuals are accused of obtaining government medical positions using forged educational certificates, fake medical registrations, and manipulated documents. The case has raised serious questions about verification procedures within the recruitment process of public health institutions.

According to officials, the accused were appointed under the National Health Mission (NHM) and posted at various government-run Sanjeevani Clinics and healthcare centres. They reportedly continued treating patients for nearly five months before discrepancies in their credentials came to light.

The matter came under scrutiny after complaints regarding the educational qualifications and registration details of several doctors were received by NHM authorities. A verification exercise was subsequently initiated, leading to the discovery of multiple irregularities.

Credentials Found Suspicious

Investigators found that some of the accused had allegedly used registration numbers belonging to legitimate medical practitioners, while others submitted registration details that did not exist in the records of the medical council.

Officials said that a simple cross-verification with medical council databases revealed significant discrepancies. The findings prompted a deeper examination of the documents submitted during the recruitment process.

The accused named in the FIR include Akash Chandelkar, Mohar Singh, Kamal Kishore, Monica, Haroon, Shanti, Sonam, Buddhman, and Pawan.

Verification Exposes Alleged Fraud

According to the investigation, copies of genuine doctors' documents were allegedly obtained and digitally altered before being used to create forged certificates bearing different names. These documents were then submitted during recruitment to secure appointments in government healthcare facilities.

Authorities believe the forged credentials enabled the accused to gain access to medical positions despite lacking valid registration records. The individuals allegedly continued working in healthcare institutions and treating patients during their tenure.

Police officials stated that the accused remained employed in different government health establishments for approximately five months before the irregularities were detected.

Probe into Possible Network

The investigation has now expanded beyond document forgery. Police are examining whether the case involves a larger organised network engaged in producing fake medical credentials and facilitating fraudulent recruitment.

Officials are also investigating whether any internal collusion or negligence occurred during the recruitment and verification process. Questions have been raised about how the alleged discrepancies escaped scrutiny despite being verifiable through official records.

Concerns Over Recruitment Oversight

The case has triggered concerns regarding verification mechanisms in public healthcare recruitment. Experts say the incident highlights the need for stronger digital authentication systems and mandatory cross-checking of professional registrations before appointments are finalised.

Authorities are expected to review recruitment procedures and strengthen safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The MP action on corruption drive has intensified in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, where the District Panchayat administration has issued warrants against multiple former sarpanches and secretaries accused of misusing public funds. The action follows recovery notices linked to alleged irregularities in development works carried out under various panchayats.

Officials said strict steps have been taken after repeated notices were ignored and the recovery amount was not deposited. The case involves misappropriation of funds allocated for rural infrastructure projects, including roads, panchayat buildings and anganwadi centres.

Recovery and warrants issued

Under the ongoing MP action on corruption, the District Panchayat CEO Mahtab Singh Gurjar has issued warrants against former sarpanch Uma Singh and former secretary Lavkush Kumar Sharma of Budhiya village in Raipur Karchuliyan block. They are accused of misusing ₹1,42,175 allocated for PCC road and drain construction.

Similar action has been taken against former sarpanch Samaylal Saket and secretary Bhaiyalal Pandey of Janpad Gangew for alleged irregularities worth ₹4,22,103 in construction works including panchayat and anganwadi buildings.

Multiple panchayat cases

The MP action on corruption further covers several other cases across Rewa district. In Gram Panchayat Purwa, former sarpanch Sudha Soni and secretary Ashok Singh have been accused of failing to deposit ₹1,30,000 out of ₹9,07,830 sanctioned for drainage and road-related works.

In Gram Panchayat Dihia under Sirmaur block, warrants have been issued against former sarpanch Suresh Kumar Verma and secretary Kamlesh Singh for alleged misappropriation of ₹2,43,873 allocated for a secondary school building.

Officials said recovery proceedings were initiated after financial discrepancies were detected during audits of panchayat development works.

Custody and legal action

As part of the MP action on corruption, authorities have also directed police officials to execute warrants and take necessary custody actions where required. In one case, former sarpanch Auseri Kol and secretary Dhirendra Singh of Gram Panchayat Joginhai have been ordered to be sent to Central Jail for non-payment of recovery dues.

Officials said the legal process is being enforced strictly after failure to respond to multiple notices issued by the District Panchayat administration.

Suspension of secretary

In a related development under MP action on corruption, Gram Panchayat Secretary Umashankar Tiwari of Tyonthar block has been suspended with immediate effect. The action was taken after he failed to provide a satisfactory response to allegations raised during a public hearing complaint filed by Sarpanch Roshni Yadav.

During suspension, his headquarters will remain at the Janpad Panchayat office, and he will be eligible for subsistence allowance as per government rules.
