The protest was against the demolition of 80 houses in Raipur's Naktī village to make way for an MLA colony; Congress leaders joined the agitation.

After an 11-hour sit-in outside the Raipur collectorate, residents of Naktī village called off their protest on Thursday following talks with administrative officials. However, they have issued a 24-hour ultimatum — if their demands are not met by Friday 11 am, they will launch an indefinite sit-in and a 'jail bharo' (go to jail) movement.

The protest was held against the demolition of 80 houses in Naktī village on Monday to make way for a proposed MLA colony. The affected families, supported by Congress leaders, staged the demonstration demanding rehabilitation and proper compensation.

On June 29, the administration demolished around 80 houses in Naktī village under Raipur's Mana area. The demolished structures reportedly included 32 houses built under PM Awas Yojana and Indira Awas Yojana.

The administration claimed that affected families have been offered rehabilitation in EWS (Economically Weaker Section) houses in Sector-30, Naya Raipur. However, villagers rejected this, saying the houses are too small for their families and lack basic facilities.

"We have been given houses, but they are so small that a family cannot live in them. There are no proper facilities," a protester told reporters.

Congress leaders, including Raipur district Congress functionaries, joined the protest. Saraypali Congress MLA Chaturinanda wrote to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, demanding that the MLA colony plan be scrapped or shifted to Naya Raipur.

"We are elected to give people a roof over their heads, not to take it away. We do not want such an MLA colony built by demolishing the homes of the poor," Chaturinanda said in his letter.

Congress MLA Kavita Lahre also wrote to the Chief Minister opposing the demolition. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel visited the affected families the day after the demolition and assured them of Congress support.

A year-old letter from Raipur MP Brijmohan Agrawal to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has gone viral on social media. In the letter, Agrawal had objected to the land selection for the MLA colony, stating that displacing the poor was not humane.

Notably, villagers had met Agrawal just two days before the demolition. The MP had assured them that no demolition would take place until the monsoon ended and that efforts were being made to find a middle ground.

Protesters are demanding:

- Immediate halt to the demolition drive

- Proper rehabilitation and compensation for affected families

- Alternative land for the MLA colony in Naya Raipur

MLA Chaturinanda has suggested that the government develop the MLA colony in Naya Raipur, where hundreds of acres of government land are available.

"Demolishing the homes of the poor to build luxury accommodations for public representatives is not right under any circumstances," he wrote.

Police had barricaded the collectorate and deployed additional forces to manage the protest. Officials held discussions with the protesters and convinced them to call off the sit-in temporarily.

The district administration has maintained that the demolition was carried out after following due process and that rehabilitation is being provided. However, villagers remain unsatisfied.

The situation is being closely watched as the 24-hour deadline approaches.

Ayodhya Ram Mandir Donation Theft Case: Demolition Action Planned, Trust Rift Deepens as SIT Probe Intensifies

The Ram Mandir donation theft case in Ayodhya takes a new turn as demolition action is planned against accused properties, Trust trustee Mahant Dinendra Das targets Gopal Rao, and the SIT investigation expands with fresh evidence.

The alleged theft of donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has taken a dramatic turn, with the investigation widening, internal differences emerging within the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, and authorities preparing strict action against the accused. As the Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues its probe, fresh allegations, political reactions, and possible demolition of illegally constructed properties have intensified the controversy.

In a significant development, Trust trustee Mahant Dinendra Das Maharaj publicly blamed Ram Mandir construction in-charge Gopal Rao for the situation. He alleged that Gopal Rao had created confusion within the Trust and accused him of "playing politics." Mahant Dinendra Das also claimed that Gopal Rao does not follow the traditional customs associated with Lord Ram, adding that the responsibility for the controversy rests with him.

The remarks mark the first visible public disagreement among senior members of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust since the donation theft case surfaced. Gopal Rao, originally from Karnataka, serves as the temple's construction in-charge and is an invited member of the Trust.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government is reportedly preparing stringent action against those accused in the case. According to official sources, the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) has identified several residential properties allegedly built in violation of building regulations or without approved maps. These properties, reportedly linked to the accused, may soon face demolition proceedings after the issuance of legal notices.

Among the structures under scrutiny are the under-construction residence of accused Lavkush Mishra in Shahadatganj and the house of Anukalp Mishra in Kaushalpuri. Authorities are examining whether these properties were constructed after the accused became associated with temple-related work and whether they comply with local development regulations.

The investigation has also received a fresh lead after a video surfaced allegedly showing Amit Shukla, brother of accused Avinash Shukla, holding bundles of currency notes. Police have confirmed that the authenticity of the video is being verified as part of the ongoing investigation.

The SIT, whose tenure has now been extended until July 15, continues to expand the scope of its inquiry. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved the extension after investigators sought additional time to complete a detailed probe. The SIT had earlier submitted its preliminary findings to the Home Department on June 23.

Investigators have already questioned several key individuals connected with the Trust. General Secretary Champat Rai was interrogated for nearly three hours, while further questioning of trustee Dr. Anil Mishra is expected to verify details regarding the appointment of accused employees Lavkush Mishra and Anukalp Mishra.

The case first came into public focus on June 7, following allegations of large-scale embezzlement of temple donations. An SIT was constituted on June 13, and an FIR was registered on June 25, leading to the arrest of eight individuals allegedly involved in the misappropriation of donation funds.

Police investigations have revealed substantial cash recoveries from the accused. Officials recovered nearly ₹79.85 lakh in cash, 1,121 US dollars, and gold and silver ornaments from various locations linked to the accused. According to investigators, several of the accused allegedly acquired properties worth crores using the misappropriated donation money.

Among those arrested are Ramshankar Yadav alias Tinnu, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Avinash Shukla, Karunesh Pandey, Manish Yadav, Ramshankar Mishra, and Subhash Chandra Shrivastava. They have all been remanded to 14-day judicial custody.

The probe has also extended to banking transactions. Police have sought account details of employees from multiple branches of the State Bank of India in Ayodhya to examine financial transactions and identify any wider network linked to the alleged embezzlement.

Adding another dimension to the case, a report prepared by RSS functionary Anil Kumar has reportedly been submitted to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat after reviewing temple administration, Trust functioning, and the alleged financial irregularities. Sources indicate that the report could influence discussions during the upcoming Trust meeting scheduled for July 6 in Ayodhya.

Political reactions have also intensified. Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary said that anyone found guilty would not be spared, irrespective of their position. Union Minister S.P. Singh Baghel stated that crimes involving religious institutions evoke stronger public emotions and asserted that the SIT investigation would bring out the complete truth. State ministers Dayashankar Singh and Dharamveer Prajapati also expressed confidence that the investigation would proceed impartially and all facts would emerge.

As the investigation progresses, authorities continue to examine financial records, property documents, CCTV monitoring systems, and the functioning of the temple's donation management process. The outcome of the SIT's final report is expected to determine the next course of legal and administrative action in one of the most sensitive cases involving the Ram Mandir Trust.

Bulldozers Return to Bhadbhada

Bhopal's anti-encroachment machinery rolled back into action on Monday after a 37-day pause, as authorities demolished nine shops and two residential structures in the Prempura locality near Bhadbhada Square — all built within the prohibited 50-metre Full Tank Level (FTL) zone of the Upper Lake, popularly known as Bada Talab.

The three-hour operation, led by TT Nagar SDM Archana Sharma and Tehsildar Kunal Raut, was carried out with a substantial police presence. Two JCB machines and a 35-member joint team from the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the district administration executed the drive without major incident, according to officials.

Structures Worth Over ₹3 Crore Cleared

The BMC anti-encroachment squad removed all nine structures within approximately two hours, with help of two JCB machines and other equipment. The demolished shops and houses — located adjacent to a mosque on government land — are valued at more than ₹3 crore, calculated at the collector guideline rate of ₹2,788 per square foot.

Shopkeepers had been served notices and given 72 hours to vacate the premises. Anticipating the action, most traders had taken away their goods before the demolition began. Two shopkeepers raised objections on the spot, but officials proceeded after hearing them out, stating that due process had already been completed.

NGT Order Behind the Action

The action was undertaken by the joint team in accordance with the Bhoj Wetland Rules, which prohibit any construction within the specified 50-metre zone of the Upper Lake's FTL. SDM Archana Sharma confirmed the legal basis: "It was NGT's order that structures which are lying in a 50-metre radius of the lake's FTL should be removed."

All constructions raised after March 16, 2022 — when the Bhoj Wetland Rules came into effect — are being treated as unauthorised and are being removed accordingly.

Elderly Couple Gets Reprieve

In a moment that stood out during the otherwise firm operation, SDM Archana Sharma ordered her team to spare one room at Bhadbhada Chowk where an elderly, mobility-impaired couple was residing. Officials were instructed to ensure their welfare, even as surrounding encroachments were cleared.

Scale of the Larger Drive

Authorities confirmed that action on government land will begin immediately, while encroachments on private land will be addressed in a phased manner starting April 10. In the TT Nagar circle alone, 116 encroachments have been identified within the FTL zone — 68 on government land and 48 on private plots. An additional 92 constructions — including hotels, resorts, farmhouses, and commercial units — are under separate investigation, with owners served notices to produce relevant documents.

The heaviest concentration of illegal structures has been found in Sevaniya Gaon, Gaura village, and Bisnakhedi. In the Bairagarh circle, around 220 encroachments have been flagged, with removal efforts reportedly already underway.

Political Controversy Surfaces

The selective nature of the action has drawn criticism from the Congress party. Local leader Shoaib Khan and residents staged a protest, alleging that the drive targeted only small traders while ignoring alleged encroachments of influential individuals who own hotels and bungalows in the lake's catchment area.

Officials have previously marked red lines near the boundary wall of a college linked to MLA Arif Masood, as well as near bungalows of a minister and an IAS officer on VIP Road, indicating that the crackdown extends across political and bureaucratic circles.

What Comes Next

Authorities have indicated that bulldozers will target 347 encroachments across the Bhoj Wetland FTL zone over the next 15 days. The administration has also issued a public warning: those with unauthorised constructions within the buffer area must self-demolish or face official action. This phased Upper Lake encroachment removal drive is being closely watched as a test of whether Bhopal can finally deliver sustained enforcement to protect one of India's most significant Ramsar-designated wetlands.

In a major crackdown on illegal land grabbing and following one of the largest drug busts in the region, the Durg district administration on Tuesday demolished a shop owned by the brother of a local BJP leader. The action, which took place in Gram Samoda, comes just days after authorities seized a staggering 62,000 kg of opium from a farm linked to the same family.

The bulldozer was deployed against the property of Brijesh Tamrakar, the brother of Vinayak Tamrakar, a BJP leader who was recently arrested for allegedly cultivating opium on a large scale. The demolition is being seen as a firm message from the administration against influential land mafias.

20-Year-Old Illegal Encroachment Removed

Officials from the revenue department, accompanied by a heavy police force, carried out the anti-encroachment drive in Samoda village on Tuesday afternoon. The target was a building materials shop constructed by Brijesh Tamrakar on 32 dismil of government land.

According to local villagers, the encroachment was over two decades old. "This shop has been illegal for 20 years. There were orders to remove it back in 2013, but nothing happened until now," said Neeraj, a local resident who had previously alerted authorities about the opium cultivation. The administration finally acted on March 10, 2026, clearing the illegal structure.

During the demolition, a crowd of onlookers gathered, with some villagers raising slogans against the BJP government and the accused leader. The presence of Tehsildar Kshama Yadu ensured the operation was carried out without any major law and order issues.

The Opium Trail: A Multi-Crore Seizure

This encroachment action is the second act in a high-profile case that began on March 6, when police raided Vinayak Tamrakar’s farmland in Samoda and Jhenjhari villages. What they found was astonishing: over 5 acres of land were being used to illegally cultivate opium poppies.

After days of uprooting the plants, the authorities have seized a total of approximately 62,000 kilograms of opium plants. The estimated value of this haul is a staggering ₹7.88 crore. The massive quantity of the seized crop required four tractors to transport it to a secure location, where it awaits disposal after receiving permission from the environmental department.

Adding to the gravity of the case, police revealed that the farm was heavily fortified. "The accused had installed live electric wires on the fencing near the gate to prevent anyone from entering the field," a police official stated. "They had also deployed bouncers for security."

Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

The police have already arrested Vinayak Tamrakar and two other accused individuals in connection with the opium cultivation case, while two others remain absconding. Searches at the premises of a linked individual, Vikas Bishnoi, led to the recovery of raw opium, poppy seeds, and equipment used for processing.

The land on which the opium was grown is officially registered in the names of Preetibala and Madhumati Tamrakar, who are reportedly Vinayak’s sisters. During questioning, both women claimed ignorance of the illegal farming, stating that Vinayak never allowed them to visit the field.

What’s Next?

The administration has made it clear that the crackdown will not stop here. "The 20-year-old encroachment on the 32 dismil of land has been cleared today," said Naib Tehsildar Kshama Yadu. "The revenue team is now investigating other illegal encroachments on government land in the area."

With two accused still on the run and the massive task of destroying 62,000 kg of narcotic crop pending, this case remains a top priority for the Durg police and administration.
